  1. Good evening to everyone, i am new on this forum and i am pretty frightened. I received today 2 letters that are 100% the same from Wescot. They are after the Address Verification and in the same time saying if i am the person above to call asap the number. If i do not answer by 30/11/2017 they will assume the contact information they hold about me are correct. Now to tell you the story. It started in 2014 when i moved to UK for study. I rented a house with 3 other people. The electricity bill was supposed to come every 3 months. When it came, it came as well with the old debt from the previous tenants, which was on the house number without a clear name. We tried to call the gas company but the situation was far from being solved. While i was away for my Christmas holiday the other 3 people somehow spoke with the gas company and gave my name and i started to appear as the guilty for all the debt. An important point is that the name on the letter is different than my passport name and it was since the people provided it to the gas company, it has 3 different letters. Now after 3 years The Wescot company is chasing me. In the first letter they didn't point what is the problem yet. Tomorrow i will go to speak with the citizen advice bureau from my town to seek some answers. What should i do now?
  2. Hello, I received a letter from Wescot Credit Services last week. They want me to verify I am the person named in the letter and live at this address. They say they will presume I am at this address, if they don't get a response by the 25/02/2015. I haven't responded. I suspect they are chasing me for an outstanding bill to British Gas, around £200. If I am right that is, then I imagine they will add some crazy charges on top. At the time, last year in the Spring when I last spoke with BG, I fell out with them. I was having money problems, and mental health issues at the time. They continually called me about paying my bill. I tried to strike a deal with them (over the phone) to pay it off, but they wanted more than I could afford per month. Then I left that rental, and forgot about the bill. I'm not sure I am happy to pay the bill or not, given the way BG treated me. I imagine I have screwed up my credit record now too. Well, I can compromise and pay a small monthly amount, as long as it excludes any of BGs draconian charges. This Wescot letter is rather intimidating, but that's the point I guess. I did read another thread on here which sounded similar to my situation. Sorry I can't post a link. I am now a home owner, if that changes anything. Some advice would be much appreciated.
  3. Hi, This is my first post but I have been looking around on here recently as have been seeking some advice. I haven't been able to find a post similar enough to mine to get an answer so I'm going to tell you about my troubles in hope someone can steer me right! I took out a Barclays Career Development Loan back in 2007. The company I took it out to train with then soon went out of business - I'm sure some of you would've heard of them. 'Connectivity IT Training' based in Docklands, London. I telephoned Barclays after I'd found out to then be told, Ok that's fine, we will take today as your course end date and you can start paying it back. How considerate of them. I made a few payments but seeing as I was on a CDL course, I obviously had no job or low pay. I stopped being able to make payments and the letters stopped coming through. Fast forward to the present day. I moved away from my Mums (I've lived at 7 addresses since then, my most recent has been just under 5 months). At the end of Dec I received a phone call from Westcot asking me if I was me. I was surprised as I have no other outstanding debt (none that would be referred to a collection agency) and as I do get a lot of junk calls I said no. The lady said she would remove my number from their system, end of. I didn't have that number when I signed for the CDL so no idea how they had gotten it. On the 2nd of Jan I received a lovely letter from them to my NEW address. Sent to my name, telling me they are attempting to contact me and that I need to confirm if it's me or not living here before the 12th of Jan or else they will assume the contact information they hold for me is correct. Now if I didn't indeed live here then I would have gotten this letter addressed for someone other than myself and not opened it just binned it and they couldn't assume that I live here etc. I have switched EVERYTHING to this address as I have moved away from the area I used to live in and it's not convenient to pick up post from my parents anymore. I did switch to other addresses I've lived at recently too and they are all previous addresses showing on my Noddle credit report. I could be on the wrong track here and thinking that this is for the Barclays CDL when it isn't however theres nothing else it can be in my opinion. Everything else is paid up to date and I've never missed a payment on anything, ever either. I am also aware that by the middle of this coming November, the loan will be 6 years with no payment or contact so will be 'Statute Barred'. The date of default displays Nov 2009. I'm guessing they are aware of this and trying to get me now before the deadline. Total outstanding is around £8600. I am not in a position to repay this as my girlfriend isn't working (on SMP as we have just had a baby and I am covering all the bills and trying to repay an old credit card which was at £8500 and now down to £5500). Is there anything I can do or anything you can suggest to me? I have no experience with Debt Collection agencies and I also don't want to have any experiences with them! Thank's a lot for reading.
  4. Dear all, This is my first time posting here. So I got this letter a day ago which is addressed to myself and one of my flat mates from University with which I shared a flat with. The letter has his name and mine and also has the address I used to live at up until early May 2013 as well as the address I currently live at. The letter states the following: Dear X (my name) Y (his name) We are trying to contact X Y with regards to a private matter. We have confirmed your address through a credit link obtained via a credit reference agency as being the same person who previously lived at the original address above. Please contact us on 0844 571 4658 quoting the aboce reference number and one of our operators will be avalable to take any relevant details to resolve the matter. If you believe that you are not our customer, please contact us as soon as possible on 0844 571 4058 to enable us to amend our records and remove your address from our system file. Yours faithfully David Smith For and on behalf on Buchanan Clark & Wells I can't remember any debt or anything whatsoever really. What is the best course of action in your opinion? Thank you in advance. Regards
  5. Hi All, I just wanted how do they verify out employment and income data when we make applications for credit cards and personal loans? Also many credit cards give instant online decisions, if I say I am a homeowner and am not, how will that be verified?
  6. Hi All, I've received a letter from BCW Group saying they are trying to locate a Nuclear Shark. Apparently my address is from a linked record on my Credit File. The address they've given is a fairly old one. Stupidly enough they have spelt my name very, very slightly wrong. Checked the CRA's and everything seems in order, no defaults other than the ones I am already dealing with. The letter states "If I believe I am not their customer please contact us on number" I haven't purchased anything from BCW nor do I have any dealings with them. That being obvious considering they are a DCA So should I ignore them? Or write a letter saying I do not acknowledge anyone by that name? Is it just a letter chain and eventually they'll go away?
  7. Hi all, Having received a verification letter out of the blue yesterday from BCW, I thought I would do a little research into them before responding to them as a. . I hate paying for 0844 numbers. I found so many comments about them, especially on this site but thought I would share my letter as it seems to be slightly different in that the letter is addressed to me at my home address saying that they are trying to contact a My Name how previously lived at the original address above, which is the same address as they have sent the letter to! The rest of the letters is identical to everyone else's but thought this was an interesting twist. From what I have read on this and other forums, I shouldn't respond at all until they say what the "private matter" actually is and when they do say what it is the onus is on them to prove it. And under no circumstances call them, do everything by letter. I will say I honestly don't know of ANY debt that I have. The only thing I can think of is that earlier this year we changed electricity suppliers. I initially chose Spark energy (I can hear the groans already, I know...) but after doing a little research on line and saw the poor comments that they were getting (even on their own website!!!) we decided to go with someone else and I cancelled the order 2 days after the initial application, so well inside the cooling off period. I had a confirmation email from the Energy website saying that this was the case and that the change over had been cancelled. On the next day I received a welcome letter from Spark and assumed things had just crossed in the post/ether. to cut a long story short (trust me I can go on and on about this) they didn't cancel the transfer and started to take the gas and electricity supply which meant my chosen company couldn't get hold of it. In the end the gas was not taken by Spark and passed over to the new company, but the electricity was taken by them, but despite them saying they could do an erroneous transfer back to the original supplier, the original supplier said that they wouldn't take it, so it was transferred directly to the new supplier and that they would invoice for the electricity used. So far I've not received any invoice or request for payment from Spark, so why this would have gone to BCW I don't know, but I wouldn't put it past them. As I say, I really don't know if this is what it is to do with, this is just the only thing I can think of. We do get calls from debt companies asking for people with different names, a Mr Brown and a Mr Westbrooke, but they tell me the address they have got and it is not correct anyway, so didn't think anything of it. Perhaps they have linked my address/name with someone else's debt? Not sure if that is possible, but lets see what their next missive brings... I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people that have written on this forum as the comments and advice are really helpful and have reassured me that this is an all-to-common issue that is easy to resolve, just might take a while. As I had a 6 month battle with HMRC last year over my tax, I'm hoping that this one should be a doddle.
