hi

i have just rang abbey requesting statements for the last 5 years (the length that i have been with abbey) i am getting very woried as they agreed straight away to sending them although it can take from 3-5 working weeks, but they claimed that there was no charge for this service! have abbey suddenly become a caring bank or have they just dismissed my request-to be sure that they realised that i wanted the statements i rang twice!!!

can anyone please help- this is the first step in a long process but i am excited to know that in the end i will see my (edit) money

cheers

I would suggest that it is very unlikely you will get the statements anytime soon. The best advice is to have a good read of the FAQ's and the step-by-step guide - then spend a couple of days reading the Abbey thread.

After that I would suggest you send a DPA request along with the £10 fee - you may then still have to push them, but you will be able to use the legal process to apply the necessary pressure.

For future reference, and for the benefit of anyone else reading this thread, it is always best to make a formal Data Protection request in writing. A good form of words to use, as recommended by the INformation Commissioner goes as follows:

Dear Sirs,

Please send me copies all of the information you hold which I am entitled to under The Data Protection Act 1998.

Your faithfully

You should also include details of any account numbers, as well as previous addresses you might have lived at while you were a customer. AND DON'T FOPRGET TO INCLUDE £10.

Robertxc v. Abbey - £3300 Settled in full

Robertxc v. Clydesdale - £750 Settled in full

Nationwide v. Robertxc - £2000 overdraft wiped out, Default removed by order of the sheriff

Robertxc v. Style Card - Default removed by order of the sheriff

Robertxc v. Abbey (1) - Data Protection Act action. £750 compensation

Robertxc v. Abbey (2) - Data Protection Act action. £2000 compensation, default removed

I rang abbey today using the bog standard number on my monthly statements. i have 2 accounts with them, one open and one closed. they said they would send 6 years statements for open account and it would be £10. the closed account he says he cant access and i will have to ask in branch. So thats very odd that they told you there was no charge. Will look forward to reading if you got your statements or not.Good luck!
