11 year old adhd/autistic daughter held in sainsburys after stealing sweets

My 11 year old daughter was caught stealing sweets in sainsburys... absolutely not okay!

 

However

my issue is with how it was handled and I have no idea who's right and who is wrong .

 

They refused to let her leave so she called me crying, she suffers with adhs, autism and ptsd

I asked her to pass the phone to staff member so I could explain that-  while I was on my way down, they refused to speak to me!

 

15 minutes later I got there and she was beside herself with male staff members around which she couldn't cope with .

I absolutely lost my cool.

 

They did not contact police yet still held her and refused to speak to me until I got there after she called me in hysterics .

string and she should have been treated differently, then id not go there for the sake of your daughter.

 

as you've already hinted, those are not ever an excuse to be used for her to be allowed to do such things, and it's far better she learns now, it's not an excuse to go thru life pull the cord and doing things wrong, just because she suffers from them.

 

just think of it another way.

if they had let her go when in a state and something happened to her, they would have been in much greater do do.

I absolutely don't use it as an excuse and I think your missing my point . I won't allow her to ever use that as an excuse . My point and problem is they refused to speak to or contact a minors parents. Surly they need to call either me or the police to be able to hold her . Made a complaint to head office just now and they have said it was completely handled wrong .

well thats down to them to sort out, poss they were getting around to it, but they should have spoken to you yes, but then again we've seen people use their mates on the phone pretending to be  parent.

 

what you can do about that slipup is another matter, but they most certainly can detain a minor else whats the point in retail loss prevention/security staff at all?

 

your child was treated no different to any other, 

had they asked her for your details before she called you?
