Please excuse the generic post :-| Just trying to make sure everyone struggling with energy bills knows help is on offer. :) This is for all you Scots out there...

More families than ever before can get free home improvements such as a new boiler, central heating system, and insulation through the Scottish Government’s Energy Assistance Package.

The package is open to people across Scotland helping in different ways; to cut bills, boost income and make houses warmer and more energy efficient.

Qualifying criteria for grants to install central heating systems and insulation in homes that are very hard to heat have been widened to include more families. This means that more families on qualifying benefits with children under 16 will be able to heat their homes for less – potentially saving hundreds of pounds each year.

Claire Satha, a mum from Inverkeithing got money-saving energy advice, a benefits check, loft insulation, a new boiler and a new modern central heating system. Claire says, “We spotted that families might qualify – and now it has transformed our lives”.

“I have a three-month-old and five-year-old child and I’m no longer concerned about the house being too cold for them”

The effect on Claire’s home has been dramatic. The combination of insulation and heating means she could save £718 a year on bills and cut her CO2 emissions by over 2 tonnes a year – the same amount emitted when driving 6000 miles in the average car.

Mum-of-two, Nicola Robertson from Oban also received a heating system which could save her up to £853 per year and give her a warmer home. She says,” Making the call was one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

The Energy Assistance Package is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by the Energy Saving Trust. Any households looking to cut their energy bills are encouraged to call the national Energy Assistance Package advice line on 0800 512 012.
