My father just told me that last week he received a letter from his bank saying that after conducting a review of his overdraft, they wanted to withdraw this service and wanted him to pay it back.

The letter told him not to issue any cheques or use the debit or credit card until this was sorted out, and reminded him to check their web site or go to a branch to find out about charges for bounced cheques etc.

He phoned them about this and reminded them about our relations who have savings accounts far in excess of his overdraft who will go elsewhere if they want to cancel his overdraft facility. They put him on hold, then came back on the line and said the letter was sent in error! Of course it was!

Just thought I'd document this in case other people are receiving these erroneous letters.
