  1. This is exactly the same system the recent Raspberry Ketones con used. If the company don't receive your cancellation they will auto refill your 'order'..... Always read the small print, I just did! Cancel your debit card that you used to pay for the trial so that they cannot use its details to debit your account. Back this up with the advice already given.
  2. Consumer Advice Line have pointed me in the direction of their template letters which will pretty much say refund the lot as it's history shows it's pretty much been broken since I bought it or I take you to Court and they will make the decision on what I am entitled to. They have said that considering the breakdown history it is a good case that the Court will find in my favour and Currys will not only have to fully refund me but also pay costs and likely some damages to me too...... silly Currys!
  3. Hi DX, sorry just seen your post. I did explain to KnowHow that it's clearly not just a harddrive issue but that seemed to go over her head.....frustrated and p'd off is not the word.
  4. So not impressed with Currys. They have offered me vouchers of between £180-£200 toward a replacement machine. I paid £299 (when it was on offer) and will not be settling for anything less. The lady said to me considering it's age now and out of warranty that's all they would offer. I quoted the Sale Of Goods Act 1979 and it didn't get me anywhere. They have the history of this machine listed showing it has been defective since purchase so I cannot understand why they won't just give me the same value back as it will cost me at least £300 to replace it!! I am now going to report this to the Trading Standards of our local Council.
  5. Ok an update for you all....sorry been a bit late getting this on. The laptop was collected and the £50 fee waived by the Know-How team when I called them due to the previous fault with the laptop AND the fact it wasn't far out of Warranty. The laptop was gone for only about 10 days and returned with a brand spanking new hard drive AGAIN. BRILLIANT I hear you say......yes it was, but it didn't last long. I have just had a week away only to return and be informed by my daughter that the damn machine has broken down AGAIN. My ex-hub says it's the same fault as previous which means it's on it's 3rd BROKEN HARDDRIVE.....frustrated is not the word. I am absolutely furious. Tomorrow I get the machine off my daughter and shall be making contact with the KNOWHOW team again and this time they can replace the machine AND the software it had on it!! Not impressed with Currys machine at all.
  6. Thanks everyone; sorry i've not been on for a while but had poorly baby. I have emailed Paul so will await his response to see if he can sort this out for me and will let you all know the outcome.
  7. I can always count on this Group to help out and give solid advice. Thank you everyone, I will go into Curry's on Saturday with the laptop and request they replace the hard drive (again). I will also print off my statutory rights and argue the repair is in addition to those rights. Oow I love a good fight....if they won't repair it I shall contact the KnowHow guy mentioned and if I still have no joy then I shall definately issue SCC Action as this laptop was meant to help my 15yr old to do her GCSE coursework. Thanks again, I shall update you when I've been into Currys
  8. A few days before Christmas 2010 I purchased an Avent laptop for my daughter from Currys in Andover. Away she went happily to her dads with the laptop. From a month after getting this laptop she had various minor issues but it continued to work but 2months further on it failed....after many arguments with my teenager on giving me the machine to return, I got my hands on it and took it back to Currys. This was now May! The hard drive had failed completely and it had to be replaced. Upon it's return I gave it back to my daughter. She couldn't use the internet on it. Now I have a small issue with logistics here as she splits time between me and her father so it's not so easy to get the laptop as she usually leaves it at his house. She got her dad to look at the internet (or told me she had) and said it still didn't work. I then took the laptop back to Currys again.....they called the KnowHow team, who said I had to go home and call them myself. I called KnowHow.....half an hour with a guy on the phone who didn't have a clue....I was telling him it was saying there was a Firewall stopping internet connection. He advised me to go to the shop and buy this and that and do this and that!! I then called again and explained to another guy who solved the problem in 5mins! Currys had replaced the hard drive with one that had an old Firewall on it (Bulldog) which he informed me had caused many issues for Currys and they'd stopped using it now and he couldn't understand why it had been put on the machine (probably because they'd used an old hard drive). Ok....well, just before Christmas 2011 it failed AGAIN. Many arguments with my ex husband and teenager later, I got the laptop this week (yes brilliant as it's now out of warranty). It's just been to a local PC repair shop and they say the hard drive has failed and completely broken so needs replacing AGAIN. I must stress that this shop has NOT carried out any work, they merely looked at the screen when we switched it on and read what it said. My father went in to Currys and they told him that the replacement hard drive was only covered for 90 days so my question is: A hard drive Currys replaced under Warranty in May 2011: does that piece have a 1yr warranty? Otherwise we have a £300 laptop that has quite literally spent longer unusable than in working order? What I want is this laptop working, fully working. However having found reviews it's had awful ones.
  9. We have finally reached an agreeable compromise which in short, gives me an extra 3 months pay in my redundancy payoff so both parties are happy. Thanks for all the advice
  10. You're a better person than me because by now i'd have given up by and demanded my money back.
  11. Hi, rather than post on my existing thread I wanted to keep this thread more conscise. but the info is here for ref: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?320833-Redundancy-post-Maternity-Leave-but-told-whilst-on-leave-! Had my appeal at work, redundancy postponed again til end October. Really need to locate the Law which states as soon as company know your job will be gone, they should put you at risk. Company stopped my maternity cover doing my job May/June (gave her another job in team), therefore effectively making my role redundant the day they removed her and yet they postponed putting me at risk til my return on 12th Sept (denying me Regulation 10 protection, which they deny doing deliberately). If anyone could please point me in the direction of this Law I would be very grateful.
  12. If the van is used for your work they can't take it. Also the logbook (V5) states on the front 'this docement shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle, it is not proof of ownership' so you should be ok. I went bankrupt May 2007 and the rule of thumb on private vehicles is you are entitled to a vehicle worth approx £2k; if you own one worth say £5k the Receiver can sell it, keep £3k toward your debts and give you the remaining £2k in order to purchase another vehicle.
  13. Appeal meeting went really well (I think); small glitch when the HR rep's laptop crashed and he'd lost notes from the last 3 points we'd discussed so had to go over them again. The Snr Manager that was heading the mtg was very nice, very thorough and put me at ease. Meeting was 2hrs long in the end. At the end of the mtg he said what would be the best outcome for me. I replied that due to what my Line Manager had done to me in order to get 'rid' of me, it was obvious I wasn't wanted in that team and as I'd had issues from 3months of starting in that team with a male member of staff that continued for 2yrs and almost went to grievance but i'd been talked out of it by previous manager, I wouldn't be happy going back to that team. I then stated that I was disappointed that a company the size of X and that had made hundred redundant in the past 3yrs could be making basic errors in breaking not only the Law but it's own Company Policies I had no trust left in working for it as I couldn't feel secure if redeployed, that they wouldn't dump on me again a few months later when the case I currently have was no longer valid. The Snr Manager asked what I would be happy with in order to resolve the situation at which the Union Rep stated 'recompense'. The Snr Manager asked what level at which the UR stated 'that's for you to think about once you've concluded your investigations'. So, my Consultancy period has now extened by 1wk to 18th October at which I find out the Company's conclusion to it investigating the information I provided at why I do not believe I have been treated fairly in being put 'at risk'. Should I not be happy with their decision(s) I then have to open a Grievance as is procedure (as I have to follow procedure in order to have a chance at Tribunal).
  14. Small update: I have my appeal against redundancy on Thursday at 1130am. I have no idea what format this is going to take, does anyone have any experience? Will it be bit like an interview? The appeal is with a Senior HR Consultant and a Manager who doesn't know me.
  15. Writing is always best, then you have a record which they can't deny. Goodluck x
  16. Wasn't being rude to you DX, just pointing out that where you said you don't see any logic in anyone going Bankrupt, you don't know the reasons behind someone making that decision.
  17. dx100uk: If you were earning £13k a year, 2kids and a husband that had just done 3yrs away at Uni (living with his mother so no debt there), who when they came home sat his bum doing nothing for 2months (and now he was home you'd lost Tax Credits), then got a job on £5ph (as was min wage then), yet took at least 1 day off a week on sick so not paid ... . cos he was lazy to the core, then perhaps you would understand the logic I used to go Bankrupt. I have to say, you don't know the facts and I know what you've said is your opinion to which we are all entitled however, I had no choice after 3yrs of it and ending up just under £40k in debt using bank loans, overdraft and credit cards to pay bills and not sleeping wondering how the heck I was going to pay for stuff month in month out. I had no property (Housing Association home) and no assets. I didn't have to pay anything back and IMMEDIATELY my life and that of my children improved dramatically. I kicked the (now ex) husband out and got on with being stress and worry free. I had wonderful advice from the CAB (thanks to having an Uncle working for them up North as their Debt Advisor). Do I regret going Bankrupt? Not one tiny bit. Do I regret the debt in the 1st place? Of course, who wouldn't and I've learnt from it... ... certainly wish I'd gotten rid of the ex-husband long before I did. So, yes, there is logic in going Bankrupt....for some not all. My debts weren't run up wasting money on nights out, clothes, holidays etc.. ..it was in being able to live, give my kids school uniforms, pay bills to keep a roof over their head.
  18. I agree; there isn't anything you've stated that should impact on your reliability to do the job. All the very best ....and feel free to donate some of your 1st mmmmassive banking bonus to the site
  19. If you do get a Fine, I would question why the Parking Attendant was more interested in what you did moving your car, than he was with the complete idiot that blocked your wheelchair access!
  20. I agree; contact the Landlord, they may be totally unaware of what is being done with their property and these actions could be why there is a regular turnover of tenant and he may the cut ties with this Agent as they are clearly doing all they can to make as much money as possible out of you.
  21. Hi, sorry your brother is having problems. Can I ask why he is paying someone to give him debt advice when it is free and very good from organisations such as CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau)? Who is he paying? If they are unable to answer his questions they are not helping him and he should stop throwing more money away on them. I've pasted below in response to the PO Box question. Good luck to your brother, there is life after Bankruptcy (I filed in 2007) Do I need to have a fixed address when filing for bankruptcy? You don't need to have a fixed address when filing for bankruptcy, but you do need to provide an address which the Official Receiver can use in order to write to you. That could be a PO box or it could be in care of someone.
  22. I would be wary of contacting Welcome asking for written evidence as you will then need to provide an address, which they will most certainly pass over to HFO (who it seems, despite their best efforts, can't locate you). Firstly establish the facts with the neighbours and note it as they tell you what happened. Then report it with all your evidence.
  23. Hi, may I ask why they are doing a credit check? Is the new job money related where there are usually restrictions on who can be employed (ie: no bankrupts etc)
