  1. Hiya, I am after opinions on what I have found out after trying to renew my partner's car insurance with a well known insurance company. I have posted this on another forum but with little response so was hoping for some views / opinions. We've had car and home insurance with this company for up to 10 yrs with no claims to date. Every year we renew it, go over details etc make sure all correct and last year the renewal went up considerably which they said was due to a speeding S30 fine in Oct 08. No problems, we accepted it (painfully but then it was his fault!). This year after comparing online again, I tried to get them to price match the internet quote as the moneysavingsupermarket page kept coming up with error messages for all deals so I thought I'd ring the insurance company instead even though I'd lose the car wash offer... After 1hr and a half of them faffing about they then mentioned that the S30 conviction was not on previous policies at all or the renewal on their systems and that this would now add a further additional amount to the new poilcy which was about £60 different to the renewal they sent out last week. What we are trying to find out is why was the speeding conviction not on the policy despite the fact that we did inform them, on the day we received the speeding ticket and also when last years premium was increased they said it was due to the conviction. We know this for definate as I huffed about it at the time(not to them though) but as I said earlier he was speeding so will have to pay the price for it. Ironically his proffession is as a driver and this is the only speeding ticket he has received in 10 yrs. The call centre rep said it was definately NOT on there or has ever been so does that mean that since Oct 09 all of our policies were void? ie - What would have happened if we made a claim? They said they would usually honour it but my partner's experience of working in insurance as underwriter for 10 years says it would be unlikely they would pay up if could get out of it so basically we have paid for insurance that would never had paid up since Oct 08! One thing is we should have checked the paperwork. We have now and there is no where on there that would show the conviction and all other data is correct. I asked the question where would it show and they said it probably wouldn't have. Incidentally we are not after compensation, we just want to find out how this happened and would the company of definately paid out had we made a claim since Oct 08. I have kept all of the quotes plus the one they used to price match last year which clearly shows we declared the conviction. Any opinions on what to do now? What would you do? Most importantly is are there any known examples of where a claim has not been paid out due to undisclosed speeding convictions? Any help would be greatfully received. I'm not happy to just drop this until I am sure!
  2. Maplins are great, until you have a problem with a faulty item. Then you might as well chuck the item in the bin, lot less hassle from my experience.
  3. I would imagine that Welcome have sold a load of bad debts that they are having no joy collecting on. Its the only way they can make instant money on it. That is if they have sold them though. If the debt agency is collecting on their behalf then it could be Welcome see this as a way to scare non paying debtors into paying.
  4. this was from my mse post where I am Ms-Pacman. Also the sites mentioned fighting debt is mine. I've now got over 3000 numbers but an eye op delayed progress but I'm back on it now. I post the lists of numbers on mse, here and my website purely to get the numbers comng on google results (which are at the top for most) to help people find sites like this to get help. I stopped colour coding the cheaper rate numbers as so many say DO NOT CALL A DCA, but the logic is that people panicking will, so I keeep it on my website instead. Any more numbers or suggestions always greatfully taken from Ruth
  5. thanks too, thats my website and I've got more numbers to add, about 3 thousand lol (eye op has stalled website updates) hers a few more of lowells until I can get them up! If you look at the numbers you can see there are a few obvious inbetween ones missing but I'm testing a few just to be sure... ps I'm always after more! 0845 309417, 0845 309416, 0844 8444716, 0845 2797122, 0845 2797123, 01153 308600, 01132 856550, 01133 086000, 01133 086119, 01133 086108, 01133 086104
  6. Hi dragonkeeper, I was replying to an earlier post but whilst taking ages to type (on phone) a few more posts got added in between. sorry!
  7. what's happening with these forums? Not just this site in particular but loads. I am a member of 7 forums. I have had amazing help from all with some really amazing kind people. I read more than I post and it really dismays me about the amount of petty bickering that goes on between forums which are all trying to do the same thing. I thought that these forums was help the desperate, the scared, the vunerable and the plain old can't afford to eat. This is by no means an attack on this site in particular but a query, what the bloody hell is happening where people like us trying to help and needing help can't agree??? Do we really want people who need help to start seeing the bickering between and about over consumer advice sites? I am not naming any forums / websites or posts but it's becoming more and more visable and I bet DCA's are rubbing their hands in glee. I am a member of 2 credit union websites which have boards and believe me they are LOVING all this. Screenshots available as proof which I can't fully reveal on here as might risk my membership. ps love the new look
  8. We bought a car stereo for £150, item faulty no other stock. They offered a refund or credit note. We stupidly said credit note as buy loads there. Had credit note. Used it to buy various things including a audio converter. Item was faulty exchanged. They marked the receipt with a big R but did not give a new receipt for the replacement. The original shop said R meant replacement. The shop we took it back to said R was refund but when we said how was that possible as we had the item and they refused to contact the other shop until the police got involved.
  9. oh my goodness, I have a faulty item that I exchanged from a previous faulty item of the same product that also involved the police being called out. The police were lovely and couldn't understand why maplins felt the need to call them out as they said both my partner and I were not threatening in anyway. Basically the manager wanted us out as we refused to leave the shop due to their cock up over a receipt (even though the branch we bought it from confirmed it was an error!). He threatened to call the police thinking it would scare us out. Now the replacement item has failed (known problem according to other reports from googling it) but we are now worrying about returning it but we are entitled to a working item!
  10. We've got a copy of a document from the land register that shows a caution on the property as well as a charge. I'm waiting to see a photocopy as my sister didn't know what it meant. Just waiting for an email with a few scanned documents,
  11. thanks, its really useful to get other peoples opinions on this situation as being related to the people involved does mean things get emotional and I need to be very clear on what I need to do.
  12. thats really interesting to read but as right now we have no legal right does this mean we can ask for the information based on suspected fraud, or would it be best to let the polce or solicitors get it? To be honest one bank have been amazing helping more than I thought they would but I guess its in their interest too.
  13. Thanks Cymru, you're right but to be honest this is typical for dad's response. I don't think he's involved in fraudulent activity, but has not done anything like contacting bank for example when nana died. I suspect he's panicking that its his fault and he'll be in trouble so is doing his usual act of sticking his head in the sand and being aggressive when people try to help. He's always been like that and I've always defended him, but this situation is too disgraceful to ignore. The stupid thing though is that my uncle is terrified of him and would do as dad says, but he won't do anything.
  14. we believe there are other accounts, including a savings account that has vanished which my sister paid into for my nana which was money to get care for grandad should she die first as he then had dementia. There would be no loans or credit cards if they were linked to uncles business but I'm convinced they are not so it is a possibility. The uncle always has hundreds and hundreds of pounds of cash in his wallet, big bundles and likes to show it off. He goes into the local town a lot mainly to put on bets. The house is all filthy and disgusting and falling apart but with 2 massive very new looking 42" tvs with horse racing on all the time. We were under the impression the uncle wasn't able to get a bank account and understand the business that went bankrupt owed a lot of money to hmrc but this is just speculation. The bank could not say much to us but mentioned a company name tied into the account with the house. They couldn't work out what type of account it was whether mortgage, business or bank account and are getting certain staff to look further but did say a company name was tied to it even though in my grandad's name so I suspect my uncles failed business was funded by my grandad. I've looked up on company house and it doesn't seem to exist anywhere even as dissolved so maybe this was why it went bankrupt with tax owing? I'm going to ring the police tomorrow. I guess if nothing wrong has been done then they have nothing to worry about. My mum and stepdad are wonderful and understand why my sister and I won't let this drop. Just another thing they have done is they left my nana's ashes in the crematorium for 6 years and they are still there. I really don't understand how anyone can do this to their parents.
  15. Hi, thanks for the replies. We did sit down and talk to our father and he promised he'd deal with it. Unfortunately we have very little trust in him after a bad history also being hardly involvedt in our upbringing and is quite selfish. (fortunately our mother and step dad are wonderful decent people) We decided to give him the benefit of doubt as after all this is his father that has died. He was supposed to go to the bank with my sister yesterday but when she went round to ask him when he wanted to go, he gave her a lot of abuse and was very threatening. He has been in prison for violence and has a very nasty temper. I've told my sister if he is like that again to call the police but to be honest he won't go to her home anyway. Anything that takes effort he won't do. We've got an appointment with a solicitor next week now and all accounts we know of are frozen. We haven't contacted the police yet as we really don't know 100% what has happened and am hoping the solicitor will give some solutions. We know grandad had a will and although it is now only debt we just want to clear his name. He was such a kind honest gentleman it pains me to understand how his two sons could do this. If we can prove the uncle committed fraud will he be liable for paying the debt caused from it as at least it would clear some of it. I don't see why he should get away free. I did contact the probate office as if there is a will, I'm told it should be registered there. I will have to send a letter with £5 to find out who the excecutors? of the will are and I suspect it will be my father. I did ask my father if he was going to the bank and got a torrent of vile abuse which has rather upset me. I'm the one that always defends him, no idea why, but this time he's lost the only support he had. It really is a massive shame. Does anyone know if not reporting a death to the bank when they had a legal obligation to, is there any legal repercussion?
  16. This is a bit of a long one but I'm a bit stuck on the best action for my sister and I to take. The rough background is my sister looked after our nana and grandad and helped with finances and paying bills for them, no real money as house being owned by bank in connection with a bankrupt business with their son, my uncle. The bank agreed to allow them to live their until their death with small repayments and to retake the house on their death. My nana died approx 6 years ago and because my grandad had dementia, my dad was given the power of attorny? to make sure he was ok, finances etc. My uncle moved in the house not allowing grandad to be moved into a care home and my dad did his usual thing of leaving it to everyone else and not getting involved. My uncle refused my sister any involvement including not even allowing her in the house to see her grandad. I don't live anywhere near them. My grandad died a few weeks ago and after going to the funeral my dad has admitted to there being a huge mess with thousands owing. There was some fraudulent activity carried out in our nana and grandads account by my uncle but we do not know the situation after my nana died. He has a lot of cash for someone who does not work and has a massive gambling addiction. Neither he or my father informed the bank of either my nana's or grandad's death this has led to my sister and I being very suspicious. My father has said he is dealing with it but he never has and never will. My sister and I want to take the power of attorney of our dad and deal with this mess. My father has already said he thinks that if our uncle has done what it looks like then he will be in trouble as well so he's just doing nothing. We know there is a will, although there is now only debt but we cannot find who the solicitors are. My sister has spoken to the banks and today got all known accounts frozen although the banks cannot give us any details or tell us if there there are other unknown accounts / loans which is probable as my uncle is getting money from somewhere, probably loans. We have copies of both death certificates and can get a copy of the document signed by the doctor saying grandad was in no fit mind to look after himself and this is why it was entrusted to my father who hasn't done anything at all. Once we know fully the details we are also considering contacting the police. Basically until we have the right to see details we are stuck as my dad is refusing to give any details. Any ideas as I'm not sure what the best thing to do next.
  17. now to send lewis group a "bog off letter" and a "what on earth are you playing at" one to welcome. why is it so bloody difficult. if they sorted it out then I will start paying it again, even to catch up. morons
  18. thanks for the reply. Only thing is though its not about a cca request. can I just leave that bit out?
  19. I'm currently in a dispute with a financial lender to who cannot provide even a basic calculation as they've made a bit of a mess. Meanwhile the lovely lewis group have decided to join in. Does anyone have a "bog off and keep your nose out of it" template letter I can send them please?
  20. I have one of those. According to 2 people who used to work at Welcome, if you got your car from wcs or an approved dealership such as carcraft then you will have one too. Getting Welcome to send it is the tricky bit as they are cottening on what causes them headaches.
  21. ooo what did I get in the post. Was it a letter answering questions put to Welcome? Was it heck.... It seems Lewis Group are now on my case. Do Welcome not understanding the word DISPUTE? They haven't replied to the enquiry sent by FOS who have pratically given up.
  22. No they did not help me pay them. I've refused to pay until my dispute is resolved. The MK team spent a lot of time on phone with me trying to work out what the 1st branch I was with had done. MK also removed a load of charges they said were wrong, although cambridge who I am with now said they shouldn't have done so. My loan was taken out at carcraft, I didn't even speak to Welcome until many months later.
