Also just to demonstrate how dumb I am , am I right in sayin that its the amount in the Total Inc Interest box that im entitled to claim for isnt it. I dont add anything on do I , Sorry if i sound as though i dont know what im doin but ive sat here night after night tryin to figure this out . Percentages were never my forte . I read all the postings about this interest and that interest and my head starts to spin, when i discovered this spreadsheet and put my figures in and it started to calculate them youll never know how good i felt:) Please tell me ive finally cracked it before it cracks me:???: Thanks to whoever is kind enough to advise me on this. I know its my claim and I dont expect anyone to do it for me but, hey, we all need a wee bit of help sometimes , dont we. regards:)
  6. HI I am seriously thinkin of changing my user name to "BRAINDEAD" now. Ive been sat at this comp for 5 nights , nearly all night, and I still cant get my head round all this interest lark. Ive used Miandsia's spread sheet and ok just when I think ive cracked it i read on another thread that someone with a claim for a smaller amount of charges than mine has a whooping big claim using the compound interest spreadsheet. Im just about at the stage where im thinkin of givin up I must be doin somethin wrong but i'll be jiggered if i know what:x Ive read and re-read the thread "Why is no one claiming contractual interest" but i still cant make head nor tail of it all. I think the one brain cell has decided to migrate downto my toes or somethin. I wish i'd taken more interest,(pardon the pun) now at school in maths. Didnt realise how thick i must be. Oh well back to the drawing board as they say. Im planning on sending the shabby another prelim with an amended schedule of charges ,WHEN i can fathom this lot out. Ive waited long enough now a few more weeks, months, years, wont hurt lol. Whatever it takes ill work it out sooner or later. Probably be later .;-) regards
  7. Just as an after thought . Are the changes to the interest rates in our fovour or will this make a difference to our claims . Do we claim for old interest or new. Any comments? regards:)
  8. hi Augusta Dont know if ive got it right but my understanding is that the 40 days start from when the cheque is cashed. If Im wrong, my appologies, and Im sure Ill be shot down in flames. Im sure you will get all the help and advice you need off other members if you get stuck on anything. Im still green behind the ears myself so once again forgive me if I am wrong . Good Luck with your claim.
  9. hi Today I have sent off my LBA to the Halifax along with an amended schedule of charges and interest on charges. I now await thier reply and quite frankly Im scared to death about what happens next. Ive been reading up on lots of threads and although most of the content is easy to understand there are some things Im struggling with. I think Im just worried about going to court ( if it gets that far) . Do you have to explain why your claiming to the judge and if so does that mean that Ill have to try and memorise all the legal jargon Ive read. What if the bank does show , do I have to stand up against a " learned friend", and defend my claim, ( stand back in horror). How can I , an ordinary housewife, be so ambitious as to even dream about doing this. These are all the thoughts running through my head at the moment. I know Im being daft but thats of little consequence. I thought I would never be able to do the spread sheets, no matter how I tried I could not understand them and then I came upon Vampyras one. OH BLISS ! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I found I was acctually able to fill them in without too much hastle:) . Now I just hope and prey Ive got them right. Ive done three different lots of interest on them. Amazed at the different totals all for the same charges. As I was doing the charges I noticed that on the duplicate statements that instead of Bank Account mine have CARDCASH written on them. I dont know if this will make any difference to my claim but I thought I would just check the interest on the different accounts anyway. (mine is a current account by the way). I notice they have changed thier interest rates and where it says Current account AER 0.10% for CARDCASH it is 1.51% . Im wondering now if this will impede my claim in any way Or shall I just ignore it and it will go away , dont think it will make any difference anyway, well I hope not anyway. So now Ill wait and see what happens . Regards:)
  10. Sent Prelim to abbey today cause upon reading over what I thought Id sent Id only sent them the DPA so its the prelim next, right. Ive not heard off them so I presume they are not willing to contact me as yet. Sent schedule of charges with letter. I was finding it really difficult to work out the interest on my account but found a spreadsheet on Vampyras site and it all seemed to fit into place, even for a dumb cluck like me. I think those sheets are magic, the way it automatically works everything out for you. I have done 3 lots of interest calculations a) charges with interest b) 8% one c) compound & combined charge and interest. Although my claim is relatively small compared to some I was amazed at the differencce c) made to the total , especially to the claim ive put into the Halifax. Im just hoping ive done it right lol, going on past experiences ive probably c****d it up, old age creeping up I think. Dont want to appear stupid but, if you put the schedule in with the letters to the bank just claiming the charges with interest paid on charges , and it doesnt go to court then how do you go about claiming the combined one ? Do you submit these to the bank if they decide to settle out of court or if it gets to court but they dont show is it then up to the judge to award you what he deems fit? Cant get my head round that one , do you have to settle for the one you originally submitted with your letters? Anyone got any comments id love to know the answer. kind regards:)
  11. hi MB Ive already sent in the SAR to shabby the time is up on Tuesday so then ill be sending the LBA. Dont know if youve read my thread or not but if you have youll see i made a bit of a c**k up. I originally sent SAR in Dec but heard nothin back so sent another one in March only I did it recorded delivery this time. Anyway to cut a long story short I could have put this claim in back in Feb as that is when they sent me out some statements. I had it in my head that I had had the account for longer than I had apparently, so feel a bit of an idiot but never mind better late than never eh. See ive got 2 accounts one with shabby and one with halifax so was gettin mixed up. Tonight Im going to write the LBA to them and then wait for them to do something. They havent requested my cheque book back yet or threatened to close the account but like you I hope they dont as Ive still got o/d with them which I am trying my best not to use but as Im not working ,well needs must sometimes. Anyway good luck with your claim and if you need any help just yell on here and if I cant help there are lots of people that will. the thing that is really buggin me is trying to sort out this interest lark . Never been too good with figures but Ill have a go . Keep me posted how your getting along. regards over:)
  12. thanks for that louis As always very helpful . Now all I gotta do is work out which one I want to go for. What I was thinking is if I made out a few spreadsheets and then I could decide which one is the one to go for. This is a bit ambitious for me but Im willin to have a go and see if I can do it . Thanks for the rates Ive been tryin to find mine looked high and low but still cant put my hand on them.So I really appreciate your help. regards Eileen
  13. Hi Im in the same boat as you ,overdraft and no job, as yet, so no money going in ,just out. That is my fear also that they will contact me to repay o/draft before I get some money coming in again. Regarding your claim, GO FOR IT. I am and it has made me feel really good knowin that im doing something about it. Its your money and if it wasnt for them taking extortionate amounts you wouldnt be in this predicament now , would you. Bite the bullet and do it Youll get loads of help on here if you get any problems or have any questions. No body goes it alone and youll feel great when you win back that lovely loot. regards
  14. Hi can anyone help me with this question. Do all the banks charge the same interest rates or do they differ from bank to bank. Im tryin to find the rates for the Shabbey. I thaough I had a copy of them somewhere lyin about but cant find them and the local is closed now. Thanks:)
  15. hi could you please advise me on this. is it the same DPA that is sent to the banks that you send to welcome finance or is there a specific letter for car finance , I havent got a clue thanks
  16. Thanks for the help Louis, I really appreciate it. Dont know what id do if not for some of you guys on here.Your links are scanned and youre right thats my w/end tied up.Oh well who wants to go boogie when they can be at home reading all this lovely bumf? Seriously though ive just sort of looked over them and some look really interesting im sure ill learn a lot . Incidently id already downloaded the spreadsheet you refered me to and i find that i can understand it far better than i thought i would be able to .:o Perhaps things are begining to sink in after all eh:wink: I could sit and read on this site all night some of the threads have me so engrossed that i forget the time and before i know it it is the wee small hours, if im honest ive even fell asleep at my comp . Its such a compelling site, im really pleased i joined. well enough of this waffle im off for a marathon reading session Once again thank you very much for taking the time . Regards Eileen:-)
  17. sorry to be such a pain but this interest thing is doing my head in. Im confused about which rate to use . Its got on abbeys site the unauthorised overdraft rate is 28.7% EAR .do i use this to claim contractual interest or would statutory be better. Help I havent a clue about this but I am trying to work it out Thanks in advance Regards:confused:
  18. thanks for being "polite". still feeling stupid , but there you go, anyway after all the unnessercery waiting i am about to write the letter I should have done in Jan .I think I have it right its the prelim isnt it , and dont mention the interest . For such a small amount Im hoping they will just go ahead and pay me out without all the hassle. I should be so lucky eh:lol: regards Eileen
  19. Thanks dave, Ill tell her what you said and take it from there. Im sure she is entitled to have it stopped if she requested it. regards Eileen:)
  20. hi here is some more of the content of the letter i received today. "Unfortunately, we are unable to supply a list of charges applied to your account for the last 6 years because we do not store this information seperately from other transactional data.We can only supply a list of the transactions on your account, which will include details of any charges applied. You have also sked for details of any "manual interventions" that there may have been on your account. Although I am not entirely cleaar as to what information it is that you require, I am taking a "manual intervention " to be any action taken with regard to your account other than an automatic or computer-driven action. You will appreciate that, first of all, not all manual interventions on your account may be recorded. For example, if a member of staff looks at a paper document relating to your account, a record of that activity will not always be made. Moreover, an "intervention" may be carried out by any one of a large number of departments in Abbey. There is no central record of such interventions because this is not the kind of information that we usually need nor, more importantly, information that a customer would normally request. I regret that i am unable to supply detailed information of any manual intervention. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause." Has anyone else had a letter of this nature? regards eileen:confused:

    OFT Study

Just wondering has anybody read this and what comments you have to make if any OFT to study personal bank current accounts - Yahoo! News UK
  22. Hi all just to update on my quest on the Shabby. Do you all want a really good laugh. Just read this. OK so I know Im getting on in the age dep, well 56 isnt too bad, but OMG how could I have been so stupid. I feel so embarrased not to mention thick. Ive been waiting over 120 days for my statements off Shabby and thinking how lenient I have been blah blah.I already have information from them for July 2004-Dec2006 ,sent prelim 17 April requesting the rest, now here is where it gets funny. Today I received letter stating , "I confirm your account opened on 31 July 2004 and all the transactional information on your account has been forwarded to you on 19 January" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh boy do I have egg on my face or what. Ok OK after youve all stopped laughing , do you think this SMALL error on my part will lead them to believe that I do not know what I am doing:roll: "How could I have forgot when I opened my account?" I hear you ask. Well with a brain like mine it seems I did it with relative ease. OH WELL ! The up side is now I can send the letter to claim back my charges tomorrow instead of waiting a few more days. I just thank God I didnt complain about non-compliance:!: . Perhaps I should change my user name to BRAINDEAD what do you think:) .
  23. hi if anyone has read my post on here about welcome and my daughter could you please advise if she would be entitled to claim anything back from them . she was told she had to have the ppi or no loan. when asked to take the ppi off she was told no they could not do that thanks any comments would be appreciated:)
  24. hi , after reading your post i must admit to being alarmed at this treatment you received. surely this amounts to harrasment and should not be allowed to happen . I can only comment on what i think i would have done if i was in that situation. i think i would have told them in no uncertain terms to go forth and multiply and to come back at the proper time arranged. write a letter of complaint to the head office , you must do something , dont allow yourself to be manipulated in this way. ok you are in debt but that doesnt mean they can treat you like this. sorry i cant be of more help, wish i could , but im sure some one on here will give you some sound advice about it. good luck regards
  25. Tanks for looking these over Smoothy, and yes it took some time for me to figure it out but got there in the end;-) Sorry to seem dumb but who do you mean when you ask if they signed or someone on thier behalf? My daughter or the agent for Welcome:confused: Appreciate your help thanks. Eileen:smile:
