The launch, which was planned for 30 September 2011, has been delayed as the payment rate for the large biomass tariff (1MW+) has been reduced due to European Commission state aid rules. This means that DECC must change its regulations before the scheme can open to applications.

This was mentioned on Farming Today this morning (Couldn't sleep-again!)

They spoke to one chap who set his own biomass system up and he stated that he would use 300 tonnes of woodchip per year :!:

Hope the do a velvet! For every tree used, we replant 3 :-)

Thats a big unit, about 200Kwh I would guess. We put a 100 Kwh boiler in for the farm last November, so far we have saved 90 tonnes of carbon compered to burning oil. They work it out on how much carbon the tree would have absorbed in it's lifetime. We are very 'Velvet' (I like that phrase) and have planted 30,000 trees in the last 18 months.
