  1. ...ase its a little more complex! I don't just want them off my back, I NEED to have a working copy of solidworks to run my business. (I'd expected I'd have to go down the monthly license fee route and this entrepreneurship programme looked brilliant) But either way - I can't just ignore them and hope it goes away - I need to get the software up and running as fast as possible - and I want to do it legitimately which means talking to Dassault one way or another. But it appears these ambulance chasers are going to be ridiculously heavy handed. The version of SW that was on that machine had all the add-ins and additional ...
  2. ...heft. To my mind this is massively flawed. First of all - I bought a machine upon which solidworks can be run. I didn't purchase solidworks itself. and then deleted said software from the machine. There WAS a very small crossover period where a license was running on the machine however I was under the impression it was Legit. Secondly - if you BUY a Porsche in good faith and it turns out to be stolen - fair enough you can't keep the porsche but the police can't come after you. You'd lose it and potentially have to buy another one. 2. The reseller stated specifically that the solicitors / Dassault will NOT release an...
  3. ...c domain resources to help you make the switch, including tutorials specifically for people used to solidworks. It'll cost you nothing to give it a go. We hit the ground running within a couple of days But in short, as with others, you aren't their target. I sugget you provide the above feedback, but others advise simply ignoring them. I can't argue with that....
  4. ...from CHCJ and got a slightly different story. Im a designer who uses CAD (specifically Solidworks) regularly. However up until March this year, this usage was wholly on an employed basis under full license from the companies who employed me within their office premises. I have just set up on my own (as in - less than. 6 weeks ago) and after a bit of searching bought a second hand Solidworks machine I found on Gumtree which was loaded with what the chap assured me was a legit copy of Solidworks 2017 and 2018. (It’s perfectly normal to run these versions concurrently). As well as some ancillary software that runs alo...
  5. ...unless the have sent by ROYAL MAIL a Letter of/before Claim from a Solicitor stating solidworks as their client and included the reply form they have NOT complied service by email that they don't even know works is pointless...
  6. ...re! Same sheet for me Here is my tips for avoiding any frustration with your illegal uses of Solidworks: - don't add your company name in folder or Solidworks filename (this is how they find u) - don't show your real company address on your website (this is how they fork u) - use a firewall software (like Glasswire) on each computer and block any process coming from Solidworks (they are a lot of different program name) - this software spreads your datas to a lot of IP addresses in the world c:\program files\solidworks corp\solidworks\sldworks.exe c:\program files (x86)\common files\solidworks installation mana...
  7. ...I've just spoken to Solidworks in a muffled tone and using a fake alias, I had no idea how expensive it was.....£5,645!! That's a ridiculous sum of money for a small business to stump up. On top of that it's £1,145 a year to continue to have the pleasure of using their software!...
  8. ... moved to jozzle own thread. https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?489010-Solidworks-Dassault-Systems-copyright-infringement-threats Please continue there. Regards Andy...
  9. ...er the type of design I do is a bit basic and therefore rarely requires the power of a package like Solidworks. the more I'm typing the more I think it's going to be tricky to worm my way out of this one!!...
  10. ...ateful of any advice from the members and anyone who has had experiences of this especially through Solidworks. I received an email yesterday 1/8/18 from a Solicitor in Cardiff acting on behalf of Dessault systems/solidworks stating that "Our client has discovered that your company has been using SOLIDWORKS, without the necessary licenses, that is to say your usage has occurred without the consent of our client or any of its authorised resellers." They then chuck in a lovely little paragraph of Solicitor legal chat just to confuse and scare you I guess? "According to the applicable national legislation, this is an infringement...
  11. ...r a licence?! A little bit about my situation; I am a designer and have from time to time used Solidworks although it is not my default package hence the reason I couldn't afford to lump out the thousands they ask. I am a soletrader and only do this as part of my income, the rest of time is spent lecturing at a university. If pressured I would probably buy the basic license to get them off my back but I fear they will press for the full premium pack which is mega £££££. I certainly can't afford it at the moment. Any input would be greatly received, last night's sleep was restless to say the least....
  12. ...Also just got one in the US. The letter. We represent Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corporation (“DSSW”) located in Waltham, Massachusetts. As you may know, DSSW provides world-leading 3D design software and solutions to more than 150,000 customers in a wide range of industries around the globe. DSSW is the publisher and owner of all right, title and interest in and to its proprietary suite of software known as SOLIDWORKS (the “Software”). DSSW owns the copyright in the United States and elsewhere for this Software. Our client has informed us that “insert company” has been using...

  14. ...Hello. We are a very small company (only two people). And We have 2 Solidworks legal licenses. But one of our computers came from another part of Europe with a version of Solidworks without a license. For some weeks we have used this version, finally we noticed the problem and activated the legal license that we have. The problem is that as indicated by other people in the forum they contacted us about the use of a fraudulent license. The contact was from the reseller and from CJCH. The most ironic thing is that, although we could have used the unregistered license for a few weeks, we have legal licenses. I do not know h...
  15. ...st the primary defence is: “I am not the only user of this computer and I/my company does not use Solidworks” (your teenage kid installed it and was using it for school without you realising it wasn’t a trial version or something – solidworks DO tacitly encourage this ‘misuse’.) All IMO, take with pinch of salt...
  16. ...s is the wording on their email. "Our clients have discovered that your company has been using SOLIDWORKS, without the necessary licenses, that is to say your usage has occurred without the consent of our clients or any of their authorised resellers."...
  17. ...Hi, Iam a new victim of the Solidworks license threat, had the first email arrive last week, can you tell me if I just ride out the threats and letters etc??.. or is there a good reason to be worried??...
  18. ...sending out letters to try and trick people into paying for movies they had downloaded ? These Solidworks cases seem to be targeting people who may actually have had an illigal copy of their software . And they are contacted by the company them selves ( albeit to try and sell them a copy of their software . It just seems different to me ....
  19. ...Just to respond to this (a little late in the day). Solidworks licences will usually be sold as a "per seat" arrangement. The company you work for will have paid for a set number of licences based on the number of computers running the software. It would be highly unlikely that that licence would cover you at home unless the package was on a works laptop....
  20. ...What a suprise , Iv just had a missed call from The solidworks 3ds guy . Won t be answering that then ....

  22. ... I just work in the evenings and it is just a bit of pocket money . I had the email about solidworks being detected , i responded telling them that i don't use it and on do 2D work. I have had a weeks worth of sleepless nights worrying about it can you help ? They sent me an email back saying that i should contact a guy at Solidworks if i wanted any info . I havent sent anything else since . You seem to be alot more in the know than me . Any help would be much appriciated as i am quite frankly scared to death by it all ....
  23. ...Hi stunned_monkey, I'm aware of the SolidWorks package - and yes, it costs many $$$s. I'm interested to know how they have made a connection to yourself, was it: - Their software reporting usage via an IP address. The obvious defense here would be to claim open wifi - You uploaded a solidworks file to your website, and the file contained details of the license used. - Some other method? The strength of that connection would help construct a defense argument. Thanks...
  24. ...rdless whether you personally believe it is expensive or not is irrelevant. Unless you have a Solidworks HUL you would have to buy a licence and either way you have to abide by the terms of the user licence....
