  1. Does everyone that goes BR have a nil tax code?

The way the offical receiver spoke to me it sounded like this would not apply to me.

She said as i'm not due back at work till mid feb and the nil code would only apply until the beginning of the new tax year, there would seem little point. My surplus was 55 a month and the tax i was paying varied but was an average of £40 odd a month. Perhaps she was getting at the fact that if i had a nil tax code the OR would receive a total of around £60-£70, for a 6 week period.

Does this mean i will have the same tax code when i return to work?

Anyone shed any light on this? Or has experienced the same thing when going Br at the end of the tax year.

    Thanks again :)

  2. Has anyone had an experience with the bank accounts that charge you a set up fee? e.g Managed Banking with No Credit Checks, open to everyone – onebanking, Make a fresh start! Bank account available with previous bad credit or Basic bank accounts & no credit check bank accounts they charge around £30 to £40 intial set up fee and then a monthly fee of around £13. They state they take the intial fee from the first amount of money deposited.

They are aimed at bankrupts and have no credit check.

How do you do your banking with them? As they aren't a highstreet bank, is it the post office?

Look forward to hearing from someone as really getting hacked off not being able to get an account.

  3. Ok i was REFUSED the barclays cash card account???

    Why?

I told them i went BR 2 weeks ago, showed them the offical document, also told them that barclays were my creditors. No problem they say. I also had all my ID.

The manager came in to help the girl do the application, the manager said she had to go so far and suspend the application and then go into it as a manager to override the credit check. While they did this they said they would call me shortly if i had to go, so about 40 mins later they call me and say unfortunately the application was declined.

They were applying for the correct account as i saw the screen and the form they had.

I said hey? The assistant said to try again in 3 months as the system may have not caught up yet??? Caught up with what? There was no credit check?

I dont understand what the problem is has anyone else heard of this?

Could they have applied on their system incorrectly?

The co op is too far away from me 50 miles! Had enough of their id checks and post office invalid paperwork.

The amount of money i am spending on my mobile to call these people is on real.

Has anyone had an experience with HSBC basic account? I noticed that on some info i found via my local council that HSBC did not mention they would not take on bankrupts like the other banks do.

    urrggghhhh

  4. thank you for the advice, off down to barlcays in a bit.

I think i'll leave my lloyds account as a floating account and see what happens a few months down the line, i only have a £1 in it at the moment.

Does anyone know of any online banking provider types? I know there is think but they charge nearly £13 a month for an account.

    Will keep you posted. :D

  5. Ok as you may be aware i'm trying to establish which account i can use as i have just gone BR.

I already had a basic lloyds account and the OR stated they were not interested in it as there was no debt on the account and it was only basic.

I decided to call lloyds and ask their advice, the lady said they would not freeze my account, it is only basic i am not overdrawn.

She also said i am not opening a new account, that would be different. I have had the account for nearly a year.

However i am a little dubious as i have read so many stories about accounts becoming frozen, when people have been told otherwise.

    Any suggestions or experience?

    Thanks again everyone.

  6. ok getting annoyed with trying to get a basic account.

Co op would not accept my id, as the lady in the post office had not done the correct procedure!!

I am trying with barclays, but their line is always busy charging me while i wait.

Does anyone have any experience in obtainting a barclays basic account after going BR where you previously owed them money?

I have given up with the co op as my nearest branch is 50 miles away and all this id red tape is driving me mad.

The OR said they werent interested in my lloyds basic account, so maybe i should call lloyds and find out what they think. A friend of mine was allowed to downgrade from her silver lloyds account to a basic when she went BR.

Any advice would be great. As i'm finding it annoying.

  7. Hello and welcome to the site,

A cca request is your legal right, your creditors cant act differently with you.

Token payments are always a good idea as it shows willing, not that you wont pay you just cant.

Have you thought about putting together an income and expenditure form to send to your creditors? So they can see the difficulty you are in. They will usually require this if you are offering them a smaller amount.

Also there is no harm in asking creditors to freeze interest.

IGNORE phone calls only deal with creditors in writing. I did that for so long.

There are template letters on this site for various aspects, have a look in there and you may find some letters you can draft?

Try not to panic, you are aware you are in trouble and doing your best. Have you thought about calling National debt line they are very good at dealing with this sort of thing (also templates on there) they were the first port of call for me a year or so ago, i then went onto a debt management plan via Payplan in which they took over my finances and wrote to creditors on my behalf offering them token payments. They were very helpful.

No doubt someone else will be along with further advice.

    Best of luck :D

  8. Rippedoff i would call the court you intend filing for bankrutpcy at, as some courts do not deal with BR. The clerk at my court was very helpful in relation to if i was exempt from the court fee. I was on working tax credit and this means i had automatic exemption. I also believe if your income is under just over 14k a year then you will also be exempt from the fee.

good luck keep us posted! ;)

  9. Hello Boston! Well done. I know exactly how you feel. I have felt the same happy, in shock, did i dream it, wanting to cry!

I had my OR interview today and wasnt as bad as i thought was over and done with within half and hour and the lady was nice and human!

It is nice to know a fresh start is ahead and i can start from scratch with money!

Take care all of you. I will be a frequent visitor on here still!!!!:p

  10. Ok the phone call is all done and dusted and was not as bad as i thought. The lady was very nice and didnt ask as much as i thought she worried.

I have one area of concern, i wrote on my list of creditors that i had purchased items from a catalogue to pay for rent and living expenses. This was when i was out of work from october 07 to feb 08. This is not for a vast sum i think it was a sat nav and 2 digital cameras maybe around 800 in total, which i then sold on ebay.

The lady on the phone who was not the main OR but one of her assistants? said this would be flagged and looked at further. She did say however not to worry too much as it would seem to only be for a small amount in order to survive. But as i did not pay for the goods it has to be flagged. Does this mean they may go for a BRU? I really hope not, if they do when would i know?

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks again everyone.:)

  11. Hi i wonder if anyone can help on this?

Whenever i order anything on line or set up anything via my address, when i input the postcode my flat does not come up in the options just the main property.

I live in a small flat around the rear of the main property, i have no separate water meter and a coin elec meter.

What i'm getting at is to be eligible for council tax should my flat be coming up as a registered address when i input the postcode?

I am currently on band A and pay 88 a month.

The landlord who lives in the main property pays their own concil tax. Just seems odd that i pay extra when i dont even have a separate registed postal address.

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks :p
