First of all I am so grateful for this site and the help it provides, many years I have been frustrated with bank charges and bank's unbending attitude. It used to be that a phone call or failing that a nicely worded letter would let you off each charge but then a few years ago, they must have had a policy change and nothing would work - This site brings hope.

I've duly read the faq's and have started my journey. As they all seem to be different and I get comfort/support from reading other journeys - I thought I would document mine.

10th April - DPA letter sent

27th April - confirmation letter back saying 40 days starts from now

End of May - Statements come back, total they owe me is £350, I'm claiming the lot as I do not see how £5 daily service charge is justified, and don't even start me on 'commission'

5th June - I sent a secure message "disgusted blah blah blah give me my money in 5 days", I was hoping they would see where this was going and just pay, naive I know but I also wanted to buy myself time to read all on this site

6th June - message back saying they are looking into it

12th June - Sent message saying this is going nowhere and I will be writing to you formally about this

12th June - standard first approach for money sent giving them 2 weeks

My next steps message and phone calls generally letting them know I will not let go.

Will keep you posted

Best of luck. From what I've read of other people's threads, Smile tend to pay up more quicly than the others. So fingers crossed you won't have to wait to long.

19th June - Secure message received - offering an amount which does not take the 'commission' into account and also taking off £10 dpa.

Th 'commission' bit was my fault as when I was calculating it, I thought that charge was from something else and I left it off the original figure. (i have since corrected this with them). The £10 dpa I believe from this site, I am entitled to it back.

19th June - Secure message asking for full figure
