Hi,

On the 29th January my insurance broker sent me a 7 day notice that they were going to cancel my policy on 5th Feb due to a finance issue.

They did not cancel the policy on the 5th and subsequently sent me another 7 day notice on the 10th Feb saying the were going to cancel on 17th Feb.

On the 12th Feb they informed me that they had cancelled and backdated the cancellation to the 5th Feb and the letter on the 10th was sent in error because my policy was still active on the system.

I assumed based on the letter of the 10th that I was still covered. Any ideas if they can do what they have done.

Thanks.

Quite simply they have sent you a letter in error, the important letter was the one dated 29th January that informed you that as from the 5th of Feb you no longer had insurance cover with them.

Unless you had made a payment, or otherwise sorted out your insurance you were aware on the 10th of Feb that you had had no insurance for 5 days and if you were in any doubt about it you should have checked with them.

Your assumption was wrong, you were not covered, you knew you were not covered and you had ample opportunity to clarify anything you were unsure of.
