faulty mobile phone help!...

hi guys,

back in october last year i bought a new pay-as-you-go phone online from a well-known retailer. about a week ago it has started to turn itself off completely whenever anyone calls me or i call out. it is useless now as no one can get in touch with me or vice-versa. i can still send and recieve texts however. when i spoke to a customer service man the other day he told me to take it into a store and they'll send it away for repair. i am not happy with this as i will be without a phone for however long they have mine. in my exprerience with electrical repairs they have it for a LONNNNG time and i am unable to be without a phone for my work.

 

is there any way that they are obliged to give me a temporary phone or at least a guaranteed repair date?

it is now under Nokia's warranty as it is over 28days old apparently so the retailer couldn't really give a toss.

i am so angry and cant be without my phone whilst they fob me off with a 'repair' instead of just giving me a NEW phone!

 

anyone have experience of this that can help?

It might not be the answer you are looking, because I dont know what your rights are, but have you considered buying a cheap phone for emergencies such as this.

yes, i have several but all are not working for one reason or another, dont really expect to have to either when you pay so much for a handset they should offer replacement.

Your expectations are entirely unreasonable. My first portable phone cost me £2,400 (a Motorola 9600X), so your rights for any items are governed by SOGA. Five months on, you are covered under the warranty, but there's no requirement for them to provide you with a replacement mobile. Ever tried that with a car or TV? There's no reason for a phone to be any different. As you have no line rental to lose, you'll be no worse off than when you handed it in - so there's no loss there either.

 

ASDA sell phones from time to time under £10 - might be worth getting one as a spare.
