Firstly he should open a 'parachute' account with a totally unrelated banking group so they can't get their grubby little hands on his money. Then he should send a SAR http://www.consumerforums.com/resources/templates-library/86-debt-collectors/576-subject-access-request-debt-a-dca.html which will cost £10 (they have 40 days to provide the information), this will enable him to do two things; the first to determine what unfair charges they've added both to his bank account & loan which he can claim back, the other to see whether the loan agreement is enforceable.
