  1. Can you tell me again what happened when they scanned the item to see if it was theirs or not? Did it turn up as one of their items? Has she got the reciept from the shop she did buy the item?

I'm afraid not - to PM 170k people would probably take me the rest of my life! This needs some organisation first. It's actually illegal to obstruct a public highway, so someone needs to find out about the penalties we are likely to face, the fines etc..., and what powers the police will have to move us on. Someone would need to get in touch with haulage firms to see if they would be willing to join. Bear in mind, it's illegal (I think it still is anyway) for lorries to drive in France on Sundays (or Saturdays, or maybe both), so it would only effect holidaymakers and/or day trippers. Maybe a go(very)slow would be better around the same areas - having the same effect, yet not a direct breach of the law (as far as I know, again this would have to be verified). Times would need to be organised and synchronised for maximum effect. The knock on effects would have to be taken into consideration as well, whatever they will be. I'm willing to offer support and even server space for a website and help putting it together, and an automated email address that people can email and received details straight back into their inbox. Aside from that, I can't do a lot more - I don't even have a car to blockade with, although I will most certainly be attending.
  3. Agreed. I can't really understand why anyone would actually WANT a bank account these days. Their service is rock bottom, there's no loyalty to customers at all and they basically push the law to it's limits just to make even more obscene profits from the people that can least afford it. It's unbelievable behaviour, yet, because it's from a bank we take it laying down...or at least used to.
  4. Do I miss Direct Debits??? Hmmmm...let me think.... I had the electric company take 411.11 once by 'accident' - the amount should have been 41.11. Did they pay the charges that this caused - errr....no, and it took over two weeks to get the money back from them - they kept insisting that they would keep it and I would get reduced bills for the next 9 months. Bloody cheek. This wasn't the first time either. Basically, my wages get paid into a friends account, then drawn out in cash each month. Not ideal, I'd rather have the money paid straight to me in cash in a shoebox. I do miss being able to pay for things on-line, however, a paypal account or similar could sort that out, and to be honest, so far it's stopped me from making spurious, impulse buys on ebay; so not necisarally a bad thing. I do like having access to my money before anyone else. I do like the fact that if I don't have enough money to pay for something, I won't take 35 quid off of myself, then again a few days later and then charge interest on it. I do like not having to prove to myself that I am who I say I am with 14 peices of identification. I do like not having to queue up at lunchtimes to try and get something paid. I like the fact that if I pay for something in cash, it takes the length of time it takes to put my hand in my pocket and hand it to whomever it is that needs paying- rather than 8 working days, but only if there isn't vowel in the name of the day etc... All firms (so far - apart from one, who will ONLY accept direct debit, and thus haven't been paid) will let you pay money into their account in cash, which is useful as when my money is withdrawn by my friend she simply then hands the cash over with the payslips and all the bills are paid too. No worrying about if there is enough cash left to pay them, no worrying about bouncing cheques, DDs or SOs, simply it all gets paid and that's that. If it takes too long to get to the firm that needs paying, then bad luck. I didn't make the rules - the banks did. They made their beds and they can lie in them. The rest of the cash is mine to do with as I please, and I do, as it should be. It's much simpler, and I know exactly what 'balance' I have at any given moment. (sadly, it's usually not a lot, but it's a lot more than it would be if I used a bank account). BTW, my facebook profile is here if anyone wants to add me: Dave Smith | Facebook

    Acer Aspire - 4 days

    Only one answer: sue them.
  6. Firefox won't get rid of the problem once you have it - it will only lower the risk of you getting similar things in the future.

What about Dover docks? There's 3 exits on a small roundabout - ALL Dover freight traffic needs to go through there - there is no other way to get to the docks. The ferries coming in wouldn't be able to unload their passenger's cars or lorries, which would cause blocks over in Calais too. Just 5 cars could bring it to a standstill - which means the M20, M26 and M5 would be at a standstill within 48 hours.
  8. IE isn't uninstalled. It's impossible to uninstall.
  9. It's going to be a more consumer-orientated site. I'm going to 'launch' it as a FaceBook application, so if any of you are facebook members...... ;-)
  10. It may sound strange at the moment, but I'm actually glad to be hearing these complaints. ...all will become apparent soon (once the new hosting company get my money and release the root password to me!! so I can get the new site up and running!)
  11. Search for Ad-aware free edition and install it. It used to work wonders for me.
  12. That seems like an inordinate price to pay. loius wu, can you post a screenshot?
  13. I thought it was an offence to drive on a public road whilst under the influence and I was under the impression that to do so on private land was no business of the government. It's academic really, the TVLA thing, as if I were 'caught' in possession of my TV set (which has NEVER been tuned whilst it's been in my possession) and subsiquently fined for 'intent' I would simply not pay the fine. I'm not in the habit of giving money to theives, which is what they would become if I were to be fined for watching TV without a licence when quite clearly I have done no such thing. All laws that are immoral and unjust should and will be ignored.
  14. ...and Faraday (Michael) who obviously was very much a pioneer in Electromagnetics.
  15. Quite right. If IE actually complied with the W3c standards, then I suppose it would be worth putting up with the security threats, but as it stands (and I'm told IE7 is getting closer to supporting the standards), for me at least, it's just not worth using. Not that I actually could use it any more, as I ditched Windows some time ago.
  16. It's unlikely that Desmond and/or Arron are any of the Oceanic 6; Des wasn't actually on the plane and Arron (sp?) was born on the Island.
  17. You beat me to it Curly. Cookies are just text files, most are there just to stop you having to log in every time you visiti a site (i.e. this one does the same, it keeps your name, your login and your encrypted password). When you click on "remember me" tick-boxes, it just means that it will keep that info in a cookie for you.
  18. People are probably more scared of what will happen to them if they hurt the attacker than of the attacker himself. Probably be sued, imprisoned, had up on assualt charges etc... because it's easier for the police to get their figures up to scratch that way than it is to actually catch or prevent anyone doing real crimes.
  19. I know WHY they keep it, but it grates more than a little bit when you consider they had the money in the first place, so to take 7-8 days to electronically move it now is just blatant greed. I just wonder what it is that people get in return for lending the banks money - it sure as hell isn't interest, and it most certainly isn't good service or manners. If you stand back and look at the way banks operate and treat us it's astonishing that they make any money at all - if I were "treated" to the same services and level of service from any other industry, you'd just walk away (as I have in fact).
  20. If what Buzby says is true (and I have no reason to doubt it) then technically I should be paying the BBC to make more of the same crap shows that helped me make the decision to stop watching it in the first place. How is that fair?
