  1. And why would people not be paying attention to the road? Because of the distraction of the speed cameras etc.
  2. People do miss things and like I have said nobody is perfect. Maybe the driver didn't know the area and never noticed the sign. Suddenly they notice a yellow camera looking at them and BANG go on the brakes. They weren't speeding but the brakes went on anyway. Why would you want to retest them? I'm pretty sure some people have drove along happy as larry in their own little world only to realise they missed a turning they were supposed to take ETC. you wouldn't be retesting all them as well would you?
  3. Alot of people slam on their brakes regardless of whether they were speeding or not. I have 2 speed cameras near to where I live. I was following a small car on the road and we were approaching the cameras. The car in front obviously seen them late and slammed on the brakes. The thing was they were not speeding. It was just a reaction sort of thing (they seen the camera late and they panicked and braked incase they were speeding when they were actually just under the speed limit for that stretch of road). So to say people who slam on the brakes are speeding isn't always true (but I would admit that most probably would be). Excellent input Dave, I have heard some horror stories about speeding tickets being issued when infact there was nobody speeding (the reading on the gun/camera was wrong).
  4. hhhhmmm again I tend to disagree. But like I said, each to their own. mightymouse made a good comment previously about the how drivers react when hitting a speed camera'ed area. It can cause all sorts of problems due to how people handle it. And as you have said there seems to be a lot of people with the same argument as I have so I'm pretty sure its not just me who thinks its a money making scheme and dangerous. Its up to you what you think but I think its a dirty money making scheme and has potential dangerous factors (most of which I have said previous)
  5. Hhhhhmmmmm green_and_mean chirps up again. I am a perfectly good driver with a clean license and I don't speed. Other people on the other hand DO. Some people may have problems trying to keep an eye on their speed, road, people around them. People do focus on looking where speed cameras are regardless of if they are speeding or not. I'm sorry if you think you are perfect and I bow down to your superiority. Oh by the way that is sarcasm incase your BRAIN couldnt figure it out.
  6. I also said I don't condone speeding but there must be other ways to sort it than fine people. Also search the internet and you may find I have a very strong argument. BUT each to their own eh?
  7. And obeying the signs and looking for speed cameras (which WILL happen) means less concentration on the road which could lead in a nasty accident.
  8. Your concentration would constantly pulled away from whats in front of you. Plus these tickets are most probably getting issued while there are no workers on the road (albiet at night or maybe even at a weekend or bank holiday). I do not condone speeding in anyway but this is purely about making money. What we have got with this system is cash hungry quangos with wage bills to pay and plans to implement, and they live on a fine income. Nobody wants to see road workers injured, everyone wants to see these projects executed efficiently, sensibly and with a minimum of risk.
  9. Or what if people notice the signs and then slow down and are constantly watching their speedo, constantly looking out for cameras thus paying less attention to the road, they end up swerving hitting an other driver or DO end up hitting a roadworker? I'm sure there are other ways to help protect the road workers than just lining the treasury's pocket. But yet again green_and_mean you come with your helpful and polite attitude. Thanks for that
  10. The road is normally a 70 when nobody is working on it (no road works). Why should you be given a speeding ticket if you do say 65mph and nobody is working there? Hee hee Clampingking, you make me chuckle soooooo much. Please tell me more of your crazy stories
  11. BBC News - M6 speed camera catches 5,500 drivers in five weeks Yet another money making scheme. Makes the blood boil
  12. Morning, My friend has finally got a letter about his recent stupidity. He is getting done for nobody sitting with him whilst he drove the vehicle and for not producing his documents. What is the worst that can happen now? Points and a fine? Threw in a dungeon and made to sit in the corner and think about what he has done? He is going to send a letter in pleading guilty to all charges but he just wants to know what punishment he will be getting. Thank you kindly, Sploits
  13. I had a similar problem with TBI. I firstly went to my bank and got bank statements for the time TBI said a payment was made. OK they had me on that one and I had made a payment. But then I got the statement of account and put down all the charges that were unfairly added. I supposedly owed them £540 but I worked out that I needed £561 back in charges. I asked them for the 20 quid difference and got a letter back saying they were closing their file. Never did get me 20 smackers off them though
  14. I have no idea M R N. I think because he knew he was in the wrong he just let them get on with it. Then paid around £150 to the compound company to get the car back
  15. Thank you lamma, your comment is greatly appreciated. I will pass the message on to my friend. Thank you again
  16. Hello fellow Caggers, After a bit of advice. My best friend got caught driving his car while not having a full UK driving licence. He holds a provisional and insurance but that was it. I believe the insurance is void anyway because he didn't have anybody sitting with him in the car. He was parked up in Tesco's when the police pulled up and accused him of driving without a licence. He held his hands up and said it was true. They then got the car towed away and left him in the middle of our town. He had to pay a release fee to get the car back the following day and has been waiting for a court date for the offence. All this happened in September/October time and still he has had nothing through. Is there a timescale for these things? Has he gotten away with it (not that I condone what he done)? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
  17. Thank you for your input wot2do. Are you able to go into a HSBC bank to access your 1st Direct account? I'm just thinking about if I ever get a cheque to cash or need to speak personally to an advisor etc. I always prefer to go into branch if I can
  18. Morning, Like a lot of you fellow caggers I applied to have my bank charges refunded. I done this recently (just before the supreme court ruling) and got a letter back from Barclays saying that they were sorry that I wasn't happy with them and they would get back in touch with me no later than 21st. Well low and behold its the 22nd and I haven't had anything back but I expect a big fat NO when I do eventually get a reply. At present I am a Barclays Premier customer (I pay £25 a month for additional services) and I am not near my overdraft and haven't been for years. The service I have had from them since I got out my overdraft has been good but its just the fact they "stole" my money. When I do get the letter back saying "sorry but we are keeping your hard earned cash" I will be seriously considering jumping ship. The only thing is I am not sure which ship to jump on to. There is a few banks in my town but like I said I don't know which one to possibly go with. My choices are: Abbey Halifax Bradford & Bingley Natwest Lloyds TSB The Cumberland (a local building society) HSBC Are any of them better than the other? Or is it worth staying with the crooks at Barclays? I thought about The Nationwide and The Co-operative Bank but the closest branch is around 60 miles away Any help would greatly be appreciated and thank you for your time in reading this. Sploits
  19. I have helped alot of people locally to me because I am forever ranting about parking tickets and DCA's on Facebook. You mention things like that on there and your friends start asking questions because like most people they have been bulied and intimidated by DCA etc. Even my bestfriend came to me when i posted about DCA's and the help from CAG. I didnt even know he had them kind of problems. He is now a happier man and has no DCA's after him. I point EVERYONE here as like me it helps them out of what seem like awful situations Feel free to add me on facebook also. PM me and I will give you my facebook address thingy . Only have 1 CAGGER a a friend and that is Dave (1 of the founders for CAG )
  20. I agree with comebackjimmy. Make the customer prove that you owe the him money. And ignore Crapex
  21. In the meantime ignore them. Hopefully somebody else will offer some advice. I had letters coming to my parents house and sent a letter out saying all correspondance to be sent to my actual address (didnt want the worry for my mother). Never heard anything after that lol Just make sure you complain to everybody and anybody
  22.
