  1. A few years ago I taught on a Life Skills course for unemployed teens, I tried to bring in as many aspects of finances as I could. It was probably a bit more basic than you want Woody as these kids had never had jobs. I covered different types of bank accounts, choosing the most suitable, how to open one. Priority bills, electric, gas, water, TV licence, rent & council tax, the various payment methods and the + or - of each payment method. Also the consequences of not paying them. I also covered meal planning and food shopping as I noticed that most lived on McDonalds or chips. Understanding the benefits system seemed to be of great interest to the group. At the time my knowledge was limited in this area, but I managed to get a Welfare Rights worker to give an excellent session, covering everything from maternity benefits to crisis loans. When you cover wage slips, I would also bring in what happens to the tax and N.I. as my group didn't seem to have the foggiest why they wouldn't get the full amount of money and what happened to the rest. We also looked at housing from getting on the council housing list to finding mortgages and then furnishing. I didn't cover debt counselling, but I think that's a great idea, and if I did it again I certainly would, I'd also look at these high street rip off places such as Brighthouse! I had much more flexibility as my course was called Life Skills but I worked on the theory that life revolves around money. Good luck Woody.
  2. This might not mean much to anyone...unless you're from around here...but it used to cost 20p admission to J.B.s, and Newcastle was 15p a bottle...that was in 1972...and no I wasn't 18....I'm still not

  5. It doesn't really matter which of the twits you respond to...they won't bother to respond to you.
  6. How about a small but tasteful ormament. Maybe of a favorite animal (if you know it)...or a hobby, there are plenty of themed ornaments in gift type shops. A bit naff I guess, but a thought!
  7. Can't help wondering but why would would a DCA have access to your old friends landline number and be able to associate you with a debt via this random telephone number!
  8. Lol at Sod'em...reminds me of a light fingered friend of mine from many, many years ago (way before CCTV). She used to go into the little sweet shop which was run from the back of the owners house, all the sweets were kept on trays according to price. She would ask to look at the 6d (sixpenny) tray which was kept in the next room as 6d was expensive! While the old lady fetched it, my friend would fill her pockets from the penny tray which was left on the counter. Sometimes she really did have a sixpence and would buy a coffee walnut whip. Her exploits became known eventually and my Dad wouldn't let me play out with her again!
  9. I've also been preselected for this one time solution....twice! Last October and about 3 weeks ago.
