  1. Today my husband received the following letter: Dear Sir/Madam 1st Credit is trying to contact the above named regarding a personal matter. Your address has been supplied as a possible address for our subject If you are xxxx Please contact our offices immediately ............... If not please call us to up date our records. We lived at our last address for 10 years and have recently moved. During those 10 years my husband did not enter into any credit agreements or have a credit card (still does not). Approximately 15 years ago he lost his job and we did get behind on some payments but to my knowledge these were eventually settled about 13 years ago. Should we contact them it does not state who the money is owed to or the amount. Thanking you in advance for any help. Sanpez
  2. Thank you all for your comments, unfortunately it was just over a hub cap, whilst she was in the holding cell another officer said that the situation was silly but they had to be seen to be taken action and she was just on the wrong place at the wrong time. She was released after they interviewed her with no further action. I think the whole thing was handled incorrectly as she was not allowed to phone me to let me know where she was. Not sure about a solicitor although as she has never been arrested before in had contact with police, and as she had not done anything wrong she may not have thought she needed one.
  3. My daughter had a hired car from her work place whilst a mechanic worked on hers, on Saturday night she drove into a car park to go to a local store, it was closed so she then left. Today 1 CID officer and 1 in uniform turned up at her work and arrested her, she had phoned the police this morning when she had found out they had contacted the garage and offered to go to the station after work, she was told that was not acceptable, as a HUBCAP (1) was stolen off a car in the car park. The car she was driving was seen on CCTV entering the car park, they phoned her work to find out who was driving the car hence arresting her at work. They came to the house to inspect her car, as her car was the same as the one who had their hub cap stolen, she has plastic hub caps and the one stolen was metal. They then took her to the police station where she was kept for 3 1/2 hours being questioned about this 1 hub cap which would probably cost £20-00 to replace. She is now worried about going back to work in the morning in case she gets sacked for being arrested at work. The police eventually released her with no further action. Whilst I agree if you have items stolen then it should be investigated but I am just after an opinion if others think this was a bit over the top. She is a young girl who if she wanted hub caps as she works for a garage would get them from there. She has just cried herself to sleep over the embaressment of being arrested at work.
  4. It was urgent it was a pre op assessment for an operation he will be undergoing on Monday, in which he will be on sick leave which they are aware off. Does this change the situation?
  5. Hi Emmzzi it was an urgent appointment and he spoke to the manager and gave them a copy of the hospital letter, but today they were funny about it and the manager changed the received date on the letter to make out that my husband did not give them the letter till last Thursday (although he was not in work that day)
  6. Hi no he did not have toil, as he sometimes has to work bank holidays he gets a day off in lieu. He does not have any at the moment. He gave then notice of the hospital appointment 2 weeks prior and there was no issue yet today he was told he could not go as he should have swopped his shift with someone or taken a day off in lieu. All I am asking is can employers deny you the right to attend hospital appointments?
  7. Can someone advise me if it is legal for your employers to make you take time off in lieu for hospital appointments. My husband had a hospital appointment today, he gave his boss a copy of the appointment letter from the hospital 2weeks ago. Today when he went in and reminded them about his appointment he was told he could not go as he should have taken a lieu day or swapped his shift with someone. He did attend the appointment as he has been waiting a long time. He did not expect to be paid for the time off. When he asked to see the copy of the letter he had given them as they denied he had spoken about it, the manager had written received on the 10/1 but then someone had changed it to the 17th when my husband was not at work. Many thanks Sanpez
  8. Thank you very much for your help, it has been very helpful. Kind regards Sanpez
  9. Hi, Many thanks for your reply not sure how he has calculated the amount but have been told by his solicitor that it is something to do with the land act. Mother in law has no problem in giving him half of the 20,000 + 50% of the 20% per cent of the profit. His solicitor has sent a letter saying that he is entitled to £110,000 because of this Land Act. The original 20,000 was paid to the in laws by both sister in law and ex partner. He has had no contact with them for over 20 years and has not done any maintenance, when they gave the money father in law gave the letter regarding pay back, when he left he put a claim against the land for when it was sold to get his money back which is fine it is just the amount that he has come up with. My mother in law is 78 disabled having to move because of a road and she really does not need all this. Thank you for any advice you can give. Regarding Andrews88 I can not see his post. Many thanks Sanpez
  10. Thank you for your quick reply, unfortunately I do not have a copy of the letter, I will try to get a copy although it is a bit old 1981 I think. My sister in law and her then partner lived there for about 4 years and they had their own horses that they stabled there and did not do any other work for the farm. They gave the inlaws 20,000 as the purchase of the farm cleared the inlaws out, but did not pay rent or bills. After 4 years he left and my sister in law moved out as well. There is no dispute that they are owed the 20,000 with 20 per cent interest on the profit from the sale of the farm, incidently it is not my sister in law who is asking for the money but her ex partner who has appeared after 20 years. I will try and get a copy of the letter and post it for you to read. It just seems so unfair that he is entitled to £110,000 due to this Land Act when he has not contributed to the upkeep for over 20 years and the fact that my mother in law is the one losing out. Kind regards sanpez
  11. My mother in law has got to sell her farm to the local council as they wish to build a road. About 23 years ago my sister in law and her partner moved into a mobile home on the farm . They gave the in laws £20000 and lived there rent and bill free for 4 years until he decided to leave. When the money was given my father in law (now deceased) without my mother in law's knowledge (in laws joint names on the deeds only) gave them a letter saying they would get 20,000 back plus 20 per cent of the profit of the sale. The council are paying 350,000 for the farm plus her solicitors bill stress etc which amounts to about 530,000. Her solicitor said that the her half of the property could not be taken into account as she had not signed the letter and the most he would be getting was 34,000. He has now said he wants 110,00 and is quoting Trust of Land Act. Can some one please explain this to me as my mother in laws solicitor said she did not really understand it. Many thanks
  12. Have a question re Land charges and I am not sure where to post. Could someone please advise me. Many thanks
  13. Yes £200 and 8% interest on the difference per year. It has taken a year for it to be finalised so will carry on holding my breath until the cheque arrives
  14. Please could someone advise me on this. The FOS have ruled in my favour against Welcome in that they mis sold the ppi and that they should have offered me stand alone policies. They have told Welcome to re do the loan without the insurances and send me recalculations they have also been told to pay compensation. I have done my own calculations and although my loan finishes in August 2010 with the new calculations it has now finished and Welcome owe me a lot of money. My question is should I cancel my direct debit for future payments and do Welcome have to obey the FOS Many thanks Sanpez
