  1. Hi mercury40, Someone I know was in a simular situation and it was not as bad as you might think! From what I've been told, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong but they over estimate your wages by 2500, so offsetting this amount against your partners wages may not be as bad! With regards to paying an overpayment they take a payment plan that as long as you stick to you should be fine! Do yourself a favour and call them, nothing is worth making yourself ill over! Good luck x
  2. I'm hoping I've posted this on the right part! Please can someone advise if they think it's not! Many thanks
  3. Hi. I'm hoping someone can advise me correctly as after speaking to 3 different people on the tax credit helpline I'm totally confused! I am currently receiving ssp and will unfortunately be unable to return to work due to disability! I have contacted HRMC to advise them of this and to give them my wages details for 13/14, showing that going from 5k to1k and my husband's wages staying the same at 14.5k! We have 3 children all under the age of 12! Now when I renewed my claim last week, I explained my situation to the advisor who then said that we will generate a potential payment and have an underlying entitlement to working tax credits! Now today I had my weekly tax credits which had gone up slightly, so I thus called them! Spoke to one person who really did not understand what I was saying but he said we would be entitled to working tax credits come April 14 based on this yrs wages! So I said so a potential payment would be due because of under payment for this year, first he said yes then said no! He then said he'd transfer me to a more experienced advisor! Who then said that our payment would stay the same even though I income has gone down and that changes will be made in April 14! Are you as confused as I am or do any of you understand the tax credit system?? We are going to really really struggle, and it's making me feel ill at the thought of not being able to provide for my children! Any suggestions, ideas or knowledge would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks
  4. Hope it get's sorted out quickly for you x
  5. I have posted about compliance also, but have had no reply. But just wanted to let you know your not alone. Keep strong, and read the other posts on here about compliance it will make you feel a bit better. Hugs x
  6. Guessing no one has any thoughts or ideas on here. I had tried to get through to them in Feb twice once took too long the other their computers were down. I want to make a joint claim now and was going to before renewal. Now I'm thinking they'll think that I was only going to do this because I've been caught. I would never defraud the state, I was a civil servant for several years and it was always my intention to right this matter.
  7. Feel a bit lost tbh, and so anxious. Please could someone advise me on what to do. Thank you x
  8. Hi and thanks for reading my post. Myself and husband split up a few yrs ago, resulting in him moving out. I found it hard to get reliable childcare. So he moved back in, he had his own room and contributed to the rent and bills, but paid more due to maintenance of our 4 children. I have had two relationships during this time, and both partners knew of our arrangement. Since December our relationship has changed and we are now a couple. I tried to call the tax credit people but once could not get through and the other time their systems were down. Today I received an enquiry letter for last yr tax credit award stating that via a credit agency they now my husband is resident. Filled with total dread at calling them, and would prefer to do a letter. any advice would be grateful. Many thanks.
