  1. Thanks very much maroon you replied whilst i was still typing my question. Much appreciate it.
  2. I've been down to a shop, but the sales people try to confuse you with their jargon, so you think ur getting a quality sofa. How can i tell if a sofa has a good quality material and built to last?
  3. The problem with this sofa though is that the leather is soft and i got a feeling that either it will go even more soft in a few months/years or it will tear easily.
  4. Thanks mike. I had a quick look, but unfortunately, i can't find any that i like Sorry. I need a sofa similar to this: http://www.dfs.co.uk/products/1280x630/casino_3str_odessa_black-enzored_view2.jpg
  5. Thanks maroon. JL are known for the good customer service, but unfortunately, they don't have any sofas that i like.
  6. Your right mike, but the problem i have is that it seems almost ALL sofa retailers such as DFS, SCS, HARVEYS have got loads and loads of complaints. The question i want to know is if there was an issue with the quality of their sofas (assuming its deliberate damage) and a company such as DFS deny to repair/replace, then what are the chances of us successfully get them to repair/replace?
  7. Sorry, but i didn't get that mate...u said "pay your money and take a chance, but then you said "DFS no way"
  8. Hi guys, First of all, Happy New Year! I am looking at buying some sofas for my living room. I was looking at DFS sales, but then I couldn't help, but notice the horror stories of how many problems people were having with DFS's customer services and their 10 year warranty. I'm worried and need some recommendations of a whom i should buy from as i don't want a rubbish warranty that is useless when i need it. Can anyone please help or advice? Thank You
  9. thanks very much for clarifying that dx mate. The reason i asked the 2nd question was because i'm thinking if i can sue this company, 1st credit or mackenzie, for harassement.
  10. Thanks very much guys. I think will write to them stating that the debt is statued barred, although i'm going to wait as i have a Citizens Advice Bureau appointment coming up and i'll get them to help me. 1. One thing i must add is back when ii was dealing with 1st Credit & Mackenzie, the FOS ombudsman said that there is no such thing as statued barred if the debt collector can prove to the courts that they have made every attempt to contact the debtor and that its the debtor who is avoiding them...is this true? 2. Also i'm worried that even after my letter, the debt will get sold on to the next company...how can i stop this? Is there any way i can find out if it was 1st Credit/Mackenzie who have sold on the debt? If so, would this not be illegal to do?
  11. i just want all these stupid letters to stop..surely something can be done to stop this harrassment? also, if the debt is SB, then does that mean its safe for me to say purchase a property or a car?
  12. it was i believe until approx 2007-08, but since 2009, its not been showing.
  13. Really? My biggest worry is what if i put anything such as a property on my name and they put a charging order on it?
  14. hi guys, i'm not going to explain briefly, as its relates to an old thread post HERE. I took out a debt back in 2002 from Lloyds and other companies...i made a few payments and then ended up struggling and didn't pay the debt. I did receive letters from debt agencies after that, but i ignored them as i became very depressed. In oct 2009, 1st credit & macenzie started contacting me again and after loads of reading and advice, i wrote to them denying acknowledgement. They still continued harassing, so i complained to FOS. Eventually, after loads of letter writing and asking them for proof of debt, they wrote, saying they won't harass, unless they have new proof. I haven't heard since that time, but about a week ago, i got a letter from a different debt collector called Ruthbridge. The letter simply stated that they are trying to trace a person with my name and details. I ignored it, but now i've got another letter stating that they know i live at the corresponding address and if i don't contact them, then an agent will be in touch. I don't know what to do as i thought i won't hear anything. I've got a feeling that 1st Credit or Mckenzie have sold the debt and now Ruthbridge are chasing... PLEASE Tell me what to do???? I'm going out of my mind and feel really really down.
  15. Hi guys, Yesterday i got a copy of the letter that 1st credit was supposed to have sent to me on 18th may from the FOS:- I know many of you will say that I now should let it be, but I'm not going to give up without a good fight...i've emailed the FOS:-
  16. Hello again guys, Just spoke to NDL and FOS. NDL said to try and push the FOS if possible to get rid of the "Get out" clause, although its not compulsary if 1st credit have already written that they've closed the a/c. I didn't like the idea of 1st credit stating in the letter that "they reserve the right to pursue me if further information is found". I contacted the FOS and spoke to the adjudicator who tried to insist that:- 1. the account is now closed as they have found no information from lloyds 2. 1st credit can continue chasing if they find further info from lloyds I simply said to the adjudicator that "have they been chasing me for the last 8 odd years without any information about me??" the adjudicator went silent for bit. I explained that why should they be allowed to keep my personal data on their systems if they have no further information about the debt? As someone on the forums kindly pointed out, the law clearly states that they can only hold my data if they have some contract, but if they can get any info, then the contract is void, thus the data should be removed. I also said that its upto them to prove the debt and even after several letters they have found ZERO information about me, hence there is no need for them to keep the data. She said that they have the right to pursue me in the light of any new information, but i kept on insisting that they've had plenty of chances to prove it and since they haven't, therefore as far as i'm concerned, the debt is SB and then i mention that the OFT clearly states that:- 1. It is unfair to pursue the debt or harrass, if you have heard nothing from the creditor for 6 years. 2. The OFT thinks it is fair to keep trying to recover the debt if the creditor has been in regular contact with you during this time. 3. It is unfair to mislead you be saying the debt is still legally recoverable when it isn’t. 4. It is unfair to keep pressing for payment after you have told them you won’t be paying the debt because it is statute barred. After a lot pushing, the adjudicator has said that she will contact 1st credit and clarify some details as well as try to sort out some of my concerns, although she cannot promise that there will be any change in her decision. Oh well its worth a shot to see if we can get a better offer....:-|
  17. Are they supposed to admit it by law or can they just say "sorry nowt found, so we'll close the file for now"??? You see the reason i ask is because I'm thinking if they've found nothing, then they have no reason to keep my data on their system as surely thats illegal?
  18. never mind 6yrs, its actually over 8yrs now. Therefore i think i at least have a good cause for complaint as they really are trying to dodge admitting to the debt being SB as they can't prove it.
  19. Well thats the problem godmother...thats what i wanted, but like silverfox said, they are trying to make sure they have a "get out" clause, so if they do find something, they can continue pursuing me, which in my opinion is not good enough. They should either prove it or shove it!
  20. thank u thegodmother (what a name! i love it!). Surely its not good enough for 1st credit to simply say "oh we can't get any proof for the moment, so we're closing our files, but we'll kind of keep the file open just incase in future we find something"??? Isn't FOS supposed to force these leeches to either admit they've messed up and permanantly or show their proof???
  21. thank u silverfox, but i will not let this one rest as i believe that if i left it, i'd get depressed and paranoid thinking these idiots could start chasing me again. What i plan to do is ring the FOS and explain that i received no response from 1st credit on 18th may. I don't understand one thing as i gave them 8wks to show me the evidence that the debt in "not SB"...they haven't provided it, so why should this allow them to chase me in the future? Surely if they don't prove it, then they should totally close the file and write the debt off?
  22. Hello again guys. I don't know if this is bad news or good, but I've received an FOS letter today, which seems to point on one hand that 1st credit have "closed the file, due to no information found", but on another hand, they have also written that 1st credit have stopped pursuing, "unless further information is found in relation to the agreement. Also there is a mention of a letter that i'm supposed to have received on the 18th may 2010, yet i received nothing. Please let me know what you make of it all:- Page 1 Page 2 Please let me know ASAP what you guys make of it. Thank You
