  1. its a shame then that if its so unprofitable for these companies that they effectively force some people into having them
  2. No she doesnt have online banking sadly, we'll put it in writing and make sure theres no money at all in the natwest accounts ive just realised that her savings account has £500 which is her 6 monthly tax payment so best make sure they dont try and help themselves to that or we wont be able to pay the inland rev and they arent exactly forgiving when it comes to being paid
  3. Yes I agree with that but that doesnt follow they can refuse to cancel a direct debit and then cause you to incur not only a bounced DD fee but then also when they claim that fee and unathorised OD fee as well. We have another account thats not a problem, the problem isnt appropriation the problem is there will not be any money in there as she's self employed and hasnt gotten any work this month so there wont be anything to appropriate If thats the case then licence to print money springs to mind ffs Like I said in my original post my inclination is to tell them to stick their account up their collective backsides Thanks for the advice
  4. I dont think you will find I said that (although others may have done), what I said was "you have to consider" not you must glue everything down and make it impossible but hello if they had done any form of risk assessment a potentially unstable mirror is blindingly obvious, im not saying that from a legal point of view because I dont know but from a common sense one its bloomin obvious. As for kids are resilient little buggers.... I agree for the most part they may be but if hit with shards of broken mirror that could have left the child very seriously hurt or worse that hardly comes into it. Like I said common sense you dont see this kind of thing in shops these days for that exact reason, I can remember the last time I saw a mirror like that, probably when I was a kid lol
  5. You're welcome, my son is 11 months old (wheres the time go?) and I know if that had happened to him I would be beside myself even if as in your case he was ok.
  6. Well i'm sorry but no shop should have anything like that standalone they should be fixed to a surface you always have to consider the most stupid idiotic thing any member of the public (children included) could do and a mirror that can fall over is a huge no no in my opinion I say go to HO and make a formal complaint and see what their attitude is if theyre really sorry and offer to make good then fair enough if they say get stuffed then go get em
  7. The law applies to enclosed public spaces ie any communal areas not his residence, although Norwich City Council dont seem to think it applies to their blocks of flats the idiots
  8. That sucks, Powergen are the biggest bunch of scumbags going from my personal experiences of them
  9. Dont know if you've seen the catalogue but plastered all over it is "Free delivery to collect from store" So you can have most items delivered to your local store and collect from there to avoid paying £5 delivery all well and good. Now some items have a home delivery only thing next to them in the book, fair enough heavy bulky items etc we wanted to order a potty for a our son which was £12.99 so dult went to the local store they put it through the till and it was only when they started going on about delviery we twigged they want to charge £5 delivery for a £12 item - would you pay that? So we queried it and they said oh that isnt available for collection from store (despite not having anything about that in the book) it then took FORTY FIVE Minutes to get the order cancelled during which time we had to wait in the store with a hungry upset 11 month old!! I have emailed Woolworths and they dont want to know trotted out some crap about you can check online if the item is in stock etc, which having checked you cant its a pack of lies. I have checked 10 items at random and was not offered free delivery to my local store on ANY of them. To cap it all off you need to create an account to do much on there and part of the creation process is it is compulsory to give them your card details to hold on file permanently - Unbelievable Anyone think Trading Standards would be interested in this delivery farce? Also whats the point in having a catalogue if you have to check everything online before going to the store and ordering
  10. My partner just called Natwest to cancel the DD for her loan as we cant afford to pay it this month and we're writing to them with a breakdown of our income and expenditure. Anywa shes just phoned the bank and cancelled the direct debit to Egg which they did without question but they refused to cancel the one to Natwest (themselves) saying that only the loan side of things can authorise that etc (yes it is def a DD) so if they dont cancel it it'll bounce anyway further compounding our problems (yeah I know I can get it back but you see what I mean) any advice, personally as we have other accounts my suggestion was to tell them to shove their account up their bottoms....
  11. No its not the end of the world (although it could be if you had an accident because of the sign concerned - joke!) but thats not the point the signs they want to use are largish and I dont want anymore of the screen taken up by anything especially as visibility is already really really poor because of having no rear windows to look out of. I'll just lob it on the dash with some blu-tak and see if that shuts em up instead of fixing to the glass - compromise. Irks me as well as I dont smoke anyway
  12. How do you know that by booking that far in advance theyre not giving you a huge discount or special offer, IMHO seeing as they have issued you with electronic tickets AND debited your card I would say they have entered the contract now but i'm no authority on this kinda thing but the fact theyve done what theyve done has to be good for your side of the case should it come to it
  13. We had the opposite got call after call after call sometimes 5/6 times a day asking us to setup a DD when we eventually called them to do so they kept telling us their system was down, then they set it up but didnt take any money and then cut us off again calling 5/6 times a day for their screw up. the only plus side is recently they have scrapped the £10 per month for sky+ if you dont have premium channels so our sub is now only £15 per month so imagine not payingg by DD their non-dd charge is nearly 33% of the total bill talk about disproportionate It's also worth emailing [email protected] never hurts to tell the boss what you think
  14. If it was me i'd tell them that they had had ample opportunity to fix it and demand a refund and go elsewhere
  15. No it wouldnt be the only reason just the final straw kinda thing, the other thing was changing the excess from £50 to £500 Besides 40p per mile I could make a nice little tidy sum I guess I could try getting away with sticking it to the dash under where the tax disc lives too. Thanks for the replies, theyre providing the signs and said they are the ones they want used to make sure theyre covered. I think its funny that people that are using lease vehicles and paying and people using their own cars get penalised too, I hate smoking and cant wait till 1st July but some of these rules are just getting a bit silly
  16. The tax disc is tiny and in bottom left of the screen (on most peoples cars) by necessity the sign for no smoking is bigger and obviously has to go above tax disc/recovery info there's nowhere else for it, maybe I can get away with sticking it to the rear windscreen lol. By necessity the sign is bigger than a tax disc because it has to have certain writing on it hence the concern. I might ditch it and go back to using my car and claim mileage instead, mind you the next thing they'll expect signs in your car too, ffs. I dont smoke anyway so there wont be any chance of them "doing me" hehehe
  17. Right I drive a company van (plain white astra van) it's mine no one else drives it ever and I dont ever have passengers (well not yet anyway). Apparently because of the new legislation I have to stick a sign up on the windscreen that this is a no smoking vehicle etc etc. Now I dont smoke anyway but I dont want to stick a sticker on my windscreen taking up more valuable screen space, I have a hard enough time seeing as it is because its a van and no one else makes allowances for you when trying to get out of spaces. So is the employer right? I have to stick another sticker to the window saying smoke free, seems crazy to me I already have to have Tax disc and breakdown thingy on there. They're also trying to tell the people that use their own cars and take the lease vehicles (which we have to contribute to about £100 per month) that you cant smoke whilst at work ie driving between sites seems stupid trying to tell people they cant smoke in their own cars PS This is a local authority employer
  18. It was best left alone seeing as the last post on the thread was nearly TWO MONTHS ago and all you added was a pointless snipe
  19. I dont think it does, I had 14 new Dell 320's with XP on (which is what they need on we're not touching Vista for another 18 months) Anyway as I was going to be ghosting them I loaded Vista on for a laugh, as you can opt to not enter a product key during install technically its not a pirate copy Anyway it had 2 partitions (1 hidden dell diagnostics one and one normal) and it loaded fine so I presume it will work properly with one partition too
  20. anyone who wants some webspace can use some of ours ive got a domain not being used and unlimited storage so PM me and i'll create an FTP account for you and PM the details back asap
  21. Norfolk libraries charge 10p for the first 2 days then 50p for the remainder of that week then £2.50 for a month If its something ordered thru the British Library then lost or damaged the charge is £120 (gulp) considering you can have 15 books at once if you allowed them all to go over could cost a pretty penny, might be worth negotiating with them? Its very easy to renew these days our library service you can renew online or on the phone. How many books and how much money are we talking? Oh and I think I read somewhere that they only fine up to the value of each book as well if that helps
  22. Well maybe youve slipped thru the crack or whatever but as a general rule they do cut people off etc for no phone line I dont know why they havent in your case but they could do at anytime as several people on this thread have pointed out. On a seperate note we pay for 2 mixes and £10 per month for Sky+ making £25 we got a letter the other day saying they are dropping the £10 per month Sky+ fee from the end of this month so thats our sub almost halved in one go without changing packages TBH I may just skip it entirely get 2 freesat cards and use a media center PC to watch different channels black gold have a quad tuner DVB-S card out soon so that would solve the problem record 3 channels and watch one lovely all for free
  23. Thats why you HAVE to keep the boxes plugged into the phone line if the box calls home and the number doesnt match it locks you out and if its not plugged in at all then you are in breach of their terms and they warn you then cut you off, unlike the media subsidy for install and supply they DO warn and they DO cut you off
  24. surely the pin should not be being used in conjunction with a mag strip?
