  3. Hi all, I wanted some advice on whether i am being greedy with NatWest and how I can get a refund without signing to say I wont claim again. Luckily for me, NatWest agreed to pay back the full amount originally asked for (£190) on the condition that I signed and returned a letter to state that I wouldn't claim again. My issues are: a) since the original letter, I have had an additional £120 in charges. b) On the back of their statements, NatWest state the dates that these charges will be taken from the account- the charges were taken from my account as and when they occurred and not on the dates stated on the statement. c) I don't want to agree not to claim again, but 3 weeks on there has been no refund of the original £190 claimed. Ideally, I want to increase my claim included the new amounts and also NOT agree not to claim again. Am I being too greedy? Has anyone else had teh same situation? If so, what did you do? Any suggestions? S
  4. Hi there, Please can I have some advice. Following on from a period of inconsistent work (therefore not able to claim assistance with council tax) I fell beind with my payments, however, since I have been receiving regular income I have been paying weekly to get the arrears paid up. With just £195 left to pay which I could have done in two weeks, I returned home to find a letter today to say that a bailiff had been to my house. In summary, it states to phone a mobile number immediately to discuss. It also says that the amount due is £279.20 including the fee of £22.50 for todays visit. However, if I pay te full amount when they next visit, the amount due will be £234.20. What would you suggest I do from here? I could just about pay the full amount by the end of the week (£195), which I could do online. Do i just do that, or do I need to contact the bailiffs in question (Bristow & Sutor)? I am nervous in dealing with them having read through the posts on here and would rather not (AND save £40 in the process!!). Sorry to be a wuss! lol
  5. I give up! You win! Was just trying to put across how it looks from a members point of view. If people are reading through the site as you have asked them to, then they will see these kind of responses. Mechs- get back on yuor chair hun, was referring to Bookworms post of course. Will leave you to it. Close the thread. Do whatever. It just goes to prove that no one else is allowed an opinion. Was only trying to help.
  6. Thanks for your reply bookworm, and unfortunately I wasnt referring to that thread. Once again you have got all defensive- why?! I just gave up trying to give an opinion of SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT as you would always be right! If you wish to give people false hope that is down to you. I no-longer wanted to be a part of it. The thread I found disgusting was this one: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=10993&page=3 (are links allowed?????) and I will find others if you would like me to. Just tone it down! You are doing a good job, but I am sure its not just me youre putting off.
  7. ... but unfortunately am not allowed to debate on the same thread. I joined this site a few months ago on the recommendation of a close friend of mine. Yes, what you are doing for people is fantastic and no one is disputing the work put in. I run a site which is also popular with forums and know what thankless task it is- so well done! However, I too have been put off by the rudeness of SOME of the mods when asked questions. Suprasport is right. Not all people know forum set-ups well and also need their hand-holding in what can be very very scary and nerve-wracking times. I think some forget what it was like when they first started their claim and also dont think about the consequences of the rudeness they show on the forums. You may have 20k members, but how many are actually too scared to ask the questions anymore. I too have focussed on a different site as I have found it to be much more friendly and supportive. I read yours, and ask questions there. How many are doing the same? And as for donations? If I had to choose between the two, unfortunately you would lose out. I don't expect this thread to stay here long, but please MODS, just think about how you are answering questions. 1 in particular should be reprimanded. Keep up the good work!
  8. I am only giving an opinion from someone who has been in tour operations for years and has had to produce evidence for defending such claims. This is a very regular complaint, and yes may well have been mis-sold by the consultant over the phone, but you need evidence! Thought it would help to give the other side of the argument so that 'kirky' is fully prepared. My comments also stand. By booking you are agreeing to the terms and conditions.
  9. It is down to the airline to decide what their Unaccmpanied Minor policy is, if indeed they decide to carry them at all. You may find that this cost was too dear for the charter airlines you mentioned and that a scheduled airline would be a better bet in future. Some airlines restrict UM's to 1 per flight. That being said, they still agreed to your booking and as long as you have proof that you put the ages in the web booking at the time of booking, then you should have a case to put to them. You might want to copy in the CAA also as all policies are checked by them.
  10. The terms & conditions of Medinland Ltd quite clearly state: By booking the holiday you would have agreed to these. However, as you booked through Teletext, it is worth checking their policy too. Having set up numerous tour operators and written t&c's, this is a standard condition. If, as you say, you were told this wouldn't be a problem, you may wish to ask them for a transcript of the conversation. You may find that if the consultant who booked your holiday was found to have actually said it was confirmed, they MAY offer a gesture of goodwill. Take another look at your invoice. Usually, tour ops will put requests on the invoice, followed by 'not guaranteed'.
  11. Hmmmmm... wonder whats going on there then? I might phone them... will keep you informed!
  12. Hi Dinghy, Waiting to see how you go with Egg before I start my claim (I know, am chicken- just Egg seems a bit more tricky than the others I'm claiming for!!). Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I received the same email from Egg on the 24th advising of their increase in APR and I have not started my claim at all yet. So they're not just picking on you, it's all of us! Suppose they need to get their money back from all these claims somehow! Good luck with everything... SB
  13. I chased mine today after sending a letter and cheque to them. There were notes on the system from HQ, but nothing had happened. The agent I spoke to, ordered them there and then and took £5 from my account stating 7-10 days. She said that before they cashed the cheque, they would check my notes anyway and see that it had already been actioned- we'll see eh?! Anyway, there seems to be a set procedure when speaking to people on the 08545 203040 number now. They know exactly what to do with regards to ordering the statements, however, they are clueless as to what we are up to (unlike HQ who had put notes on my account to say "possible charge claim expected"!!!). All I got was "6 years is a lot of statements to be ordering"! Bless! Anyway, good luck with your claim. I have a separate post on here and will update when I receive my statements- see if it works!
  14. Interesting... I called today to chase up my statement request and also to see if the letter had been received and the £10 cheque had been cashed. The agent read out the details on her system to me, but don't think she realised what she was saying. Basically, there is no record of the letter or cheque being received, but from the one call to the main Halifax number last Monday to request statements, a whole string of events have occurred at Halifax HQ e.g. "expected claim request for charges and fees" note added! How interesting! Something is obviously now in their system that is picking up these requests so may mean they are getting more time to file a defence??? Bit scared now to be honest! Anyway, the agent advised a letter had been sent to me dated the 5th May (yet to receive) that stated that there woudl be a £5 charge for this request and to call the main number (the one I had just called!) to set this up. I decided to get the ball rolling and re-request the statements (if they cash the cheque then I have proof they received the first letter). The statements should take 7-10days to arrive. We'll see shall we??
  15. Nothing to do with claiming charges back, but just thought members might like to be aware of this issue. I have been regularly paying my car insurance policy monthly by DD and everyone was happy, until, due to starting my own business and money coming in and going out at silly times of the month, it wasn't feasble to pay by this method (cos surprisingly enough I would have been charged by my bank!!). I contacted them to see what other methods I could pay by, and there lovely call centre staff gave me an address to send cheques to. Anyway, I then regularly sent them cheques that cleared in time for the payment date. Everyone still happy.... or so I thought... On the 15th April, I received a letter to say that following my request, my policy had been cancelled as from 1st April. Hang on a minute- it was now 15th April and I had been obliviously driving around unaware that I was uninsured! I called up to see what the problem was, and they admitted that they had sent the wrong letter out and that in fact THEY had cancelled my policy as I wasn't paying by direct debit!! I checked my current account online whilst they were on the phone and they had been cashing the cheques every month without comment!! So it seems, Norwich Union Direct are only HAPPY if you pay the right way... maybe cheques are beneath them these days?! I was so lucky not to have been stopped in those two weeks. I was fuming!! They did offer to quote me on a new policy though... how nice of them! I am now with Virgin! say no more....
  16. Thanks for that Alan. I have read the thread through and it certainly will help in many other areas of life, not just with banks!! If you haven't read it, John, it will definitely help with your quest. Good luck!
  17. FAO: Alan I know I shouldn't post on other people's threads, but can you clarify the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 in layman's terms? I have tried searching on Google but all I can understand is that it has something to do with licencing. I want to be prepared for the phone calls I get as I have just started the ball rolling and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is interested. If there is a post or thread on the boards anywhere which helps, I must have missed it, so my apologies! I doubt that the call centre staff who will be calling will know themselves, but just want to be prepared!!!
  18. Just reading through and thought I'd add my 2 cents worth... I run a PR & marketing company and also do web design. I know you have had loads of offers of help, but would like to add one more! Banners for other members sites, web pages you can just upload onto your server, e-newsletter advice- whatever! Just ask!! I'm sure you could better invest your time in helping the members. Even if my claim isn't successful, what you guys are doing for us all is fantastic and I'm willing to help (FOC of course) in whatever way I can. PM if you need anything... and thanks again! Shelly
  19. Hi everyone, This site has kept me rivetted to my PC all day today (when I should have been gardening!). What a fantastic thing you guys are doing in helping us to get that refund we all desire from our woderful banks! Having read through, it seems it's not just the Halifax who do such things! I started my own business in January and as my direct debits were set up on the date of my old payday, and I had rather more to think about that month than that, I was charged nearly £500 in January alone. At the time, I complained bitterly but to no avail and was even threatened court action if I didn't pay back those charges plus my full overdraft- if only this had been going back then eh? But it seems all is not lost! I sent my request for charge information (is that a DPA?!) today as soon as my friend told me about the site so fingers crossed I can find out what the total is over the years and hopefully get reimbursed. Wish me luck! Will keep you informed of how this goes SB
