That may not be the case I manage a charity shop ( I don't use mandated people BTW) I pay volunteers bus fares - I have a couple over pension age who may need to get to the shop in the morning before they can use their passes so I pay a single fare for them and I have someone on JSA who volunteers (with the approval of the JC) or 3 days a week inc Saturday - its cheaper for me to pay for a weekly season ticket then to pay return tickets for 3 days - the only downside is that I need the ticket as a receipt for my HO therefore can only pay in arrears, so the OP could always ask about travel expenses.1 point

Not sure where the DWP come in as they don't deal with tax credits? HMRC aren't saying you need to earn NMW. They are saying that if you don't then your records may be checked. They can in fact check anyone's records if they have a reason to believe it may be incorrect. They may then see the records and be happy with them and your claim continues. Or they may not agree. It really depends on each individual business. These checks where required because there are those who signed up as self employed in order to claim tax credits and are doing little work or making very little attempts to increase their income. I can only speak from experience and please bear in mind this is an INFORMAL arrangement, nothing was ordered by the Courts. When I split from my ex husband both our children were in nappies and our youngest still on formula. During his contact (initially 2 hours but it increased) I supplied our children in clothing suitable for the time of year (sunhats, coats, scarves etc), a nappy bag (with enough for one change), bottles for the youngest and the double buggy as he didn't have one. He supplied his own nappies, wipes, cream, spare clothes etc. If he had to change clothes due to an accident then I would wash and return the next week.1 point
