  1. 'Cash' deposits totalling 636.21GBP appeared in my account 24th January 2007. I am happy to the point of tears, I know its not much but, thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou !!!! :D :D :D p.s. same day as the deposit they put some more charges on but hey, I know what to do now!!!! p.p.s I'm so happy, thank you all so much for being here, HOORAY for US!!!
  2. Funny. I got a cocky letter from them last week saying something along the lines of: we're sorry you obviously didn't receive our last letter which said we're not paying, here's a copy of it and p.s. we're not paying, did you read that part? To Nationwide: Yes. Twice in fact. And curiously that didn't stop me hitting "submit" button at moneyclaim. Toodle pip chaps, see you at the bank.
  3. Actually I've complained to my credit card company about doing this. _they_ call _me_ and ask me security questions. The last time they did this I said "I'm sorry, but I can't confirm who you are since you called me and therefore I am not answering any security questions, I'm quite happy to call you back using the number on the back of my credit card, but this conversation is going no further" Its always struck me as incredibly DIM of them to do that. Its like saying "hi, whats your password?" .......
  4. Sorry if there's a separate forums for credit cards I couldn't see it. I'm getting in a right old pickle with Nationwide Credit card over two things: 1. I get a statement, saying minimum payment, say, £200 by 10th Jan. I phone them (every time actually, until I gave up this month) to say that yes, I am able to make the minimum payment but, as I get paid weekly not monthly, I will send them £200 div 4. They okay this every time, but I still get "late charges". When I query this they say it's because I didn't make the £200 by 10th Jan. 2. Credit Life charges. I phoned them back in September and asked them to cancel it. They said they'd send me a form to sign to cancel it and that I should send it back to them and they would deal with it. Next statement arrives, more credit life charges. I phone. They deny receiving it. they send another. I sign another, send it back. They write to me acknowledging my request to cancel. They say in the same letter they've lost my original application for a card (!!!) and would I sign the attached credit agreement. Another statement, more credit life charges. The credit life charges are, for my balance, almost £200 a month and they are still coming. I am reluctant to sign anything until they cancel this policy and my view is that one has nothing to do with the other, they should have cancelled this policy by now. Can anyone offer me some advice here, I have made 'a payment' this month but I really want to be able to tell them to give me back the money they keep taking for this credit life stuff. When I phoned them for the second cancellation form they mentioned "yes we'll send it but actually it has nothing to do with us" Where do I stand? I am really upset about it all.
  5. Wait for someone more experienced to come back to you here but the letter from the court should say whether there is any action to take by you. If not phone the court and ask them they are usually really helpful. I had a similar case in an employment case where I just replied and said "claimant claims revised amount of £xxx.xx and reserves the right to claim interest etc etc etc just minus the £20 in your case. But wait see what these guys tell you to be sure. Good luck!
  6. Oh p.s. I got the standard 'sorry you're not happy, our charges are transparent' letter. I am fully expecting the account to be closed here. I already have another account with Halifax (who I am also claiming against actually !!) so should I open another account just in case or just hope that Halifax don't close my accounts too?
  7. Eggopp, I got exactly the same responses and am at about the same stage. My claim is here: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/halifax-bank/47206-my-claim-started-350-a.html So don't worry and stick to your timetables, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The lad I spoke to when I called them today was perfectly polite. Fingers crossed for you! I do recommend calling them just before you get to stage 4 I'm sure you'll get an offer. Good luck. Sam
  8. Yep I had the number as I quoted it in my LBA. I am going to wait for them to send me a copy of their offer, and send it back saying the charges have been added to and I will therefore accept an offer of at least X. If they don't reply in a reasonable time I'll call them again and see what they have to say. Opened all my mail last night so I'm pretty sure I didn't get the thing. We'll see. Ty for all your help it's very encouraging.
  9. After a very useful private message from Claire here, I called their customer relations department. Apparently they sent me a letter offering me £325.00. I've asked them to send a copy of this and then I'm going to offer them closure for the bargain price of £496.46 which is what the charges stand at now. If they offer me anything above £450 I'll settle. I'll keep you posted. They sounded very polite on the phone, and quite helpful. Suggest anyone who is about to 'press' the submit button at moneyclaim.org to do the same before doing so. Update soon I hope. Thanks for the advice Claire! Sam
  10. No response whatsoever from Nationwide and no miracle credits. Letter Before Action Sent today.
  11. I've heard nothing, I was even good enough to allow for Christmas post/Bank Holidays. I've checked my account and nothings been credited. I've had more charges in fact...its been a bumpy christmas. Off to moneyclaim.org. Claim is now going to be for £496.46 including latest charges, excluding interest.
  12. Make that £1364.35.. :o Anyway, its posted. Wish me luck.
  13. Got statements today special delivery, 'please find enclosed your binder' - which consisted of a laccy band. Charges total £1100. Initial request for payment being sent today.
  14. Letter before action posted today, 1st December including latest charge. p.s. I've been (and am) allowing 14 working days - guessing this is right (and considerate) of me. Fingers crossed, probably won't see anything this side of Christmas but I'm not swaying on this.
  15. Got a standard letter today saying 'yes we'll be posting your statements yada'. Actually if I put my mind to it I could probably find them all inthe cupboard upstairs but im just interested to see what they send.
  16. Coming up to Letter before action. Halifax JUST charged me 58.00 for going 42.56 over my agreed overdraft limit for ONE DAY. :o No spankyou. Thats getting added!
  17. Good luck! will be watching, as I've just started to 'have a go' you have my support for one!
  18. Early days yet. I banked with Nationwide for six years and never, ever, went overdrawn or had anything bounced, then sue to unforseen circumstances early 2005 everything went awry. to cut a long story short they owe me almost two grand. I could have gotten my statements online but they only go back to August 2005, so I've sent the S.A.R. letter with my tenner. Wish me luck! will post back periodically as I'm sure they'll squirm.
  19. Cool. Just checking. Was going to reply and just say "clock's - a - ticking fellers " but I'll keep my trap shut
  20. Hi all, Some colleagues at work suggested I try this site as I was talking about my bank charges. I feel ashamed of myself that I just assumed it was the 'done thing' to put up with it. Anyway, my letter was posted on Tuesday, got a letter this morning which looks like a standard "sorry you're not happy..." "here's our complaint leaflet..", "we'll get back to you in about four weeks.." I'm guessing from other threads I don't respond and just keep to the 14 days? I mean, its not like that template is unclear or anything is it ? Anyway, I've also got an action with Nationwide on the go (which is thousands!) but I'll post here periodically to let you know how it's going. Thanks for this web site btw. Sam
  21. Hi all. I'm sure you've heard this a zillion times, but I had NO idea I was able tot ake action against my bank for charging me unfairly. Looks like the totals totting up to be somewhere in the region of a thousand pounds. I went eight years or so without be overdrawn but then, (just to give you an example )due to some bumpy times which I wont bother going into, there happened to be not enough money in my account on the day that 9 of my bills get paid. My statement (which I still have) lists 9 charges totalling £270. I was utterly horrified but didn't think I could do anything about it.  WELL. I've been sorely underestimated. You just WATCH me get it all back!! Thanks for the great FAQ's. Read them cover-to-cover. Sam
