  1. What are the three main agencies? I've searched Experian and Equifax and it's okay.
  2. Hi, 8 to 9 years ago I had a lot of debts. I didn't ever pay them and was never issued with any CCJ's. I performed a search to verify this. I moved from the property from which I obtained the credit 8 years ago and didn't make any payments to, or make contact with, the creditors. So they should be statute barred. So when I apply for credit, my previous addresses quite rightly don't include that property. My circumstances have changed and in the last few months I have got a couple of credit cards and an overdraft. I am managing these well. Paying the balances and not getting into debt. My wife and I are going to apply for a mortgage. It's quite a large one but we're putting down 20%. She already has a property that she rents out and has never had any issues with credit. We both have good jobs and have been in full time employment with our respective employers for over 10 years each. My question is, will my old debts be found? They don't seem to have had any impact on my ability to get credit now. The mortgage is well within our needs and, as mentioned, we're putting a reasonable deposit down. Do mortgage companies perform more thorough searches than credit card companies? I would really appreciate some help on this. Thanks
  3. I've been looking around. There doesn't seem to be a way of sending a Subject Access Request to GAIN. I've seen references to them being a trading entity in their own right, but there doesn't seem to be a way of contacting them.
  4. I suppose if I know what GAIN have on me, I'll know what to expect. I can still get post at the address at which I lived 7 years ago.
  5. Doesn't that mean that someone is holding information about me that I cannot get access to? Isn't that against data protection or something?
  6. My debts are over 7 years old. I moved address 7 years ago and told nobody. I got a new basic bank account and, to this date, that is all I have. I've checked my records for my old address and there are no CCJs registered. How is GAIN marked on my credit report? Do they use my name and date of birth to try and tie me to my old address? I have applied for a credit report with Equifax and they've asked for a utility bill / bank statement plus a copy of my passport / driving licence. They asked for that as soon as I told them that I haven't had any credit for the last 6 years. I haven't submitted them to Equifax yet. I want to build a credit score, but I'm scared that providing details will allow them to tie me to a GAIN maker on a previous address of 7 years ago. How does it work?

  9. So include my old address? Do you think, that will probably mean that the debt collectors will catch up with me?
  10. Hi, I have a large number of unpaid debts (totalling around £40,000). I have not made any payments or acknowledged any contact from the lenders (or agencies that have attempted to chase me for payments) for more than 7 years. Clearly getting myself into such a mess was a really stupid thing to do and isn't if isn't a mistake I'll make again. My circumstances have changed a lot since then. I have moved home a couple of times since and, though I have received letters to my old address and telephone calls, I have never heard anything at my subsequent addresses. Though I moved 7 years ago from the address at which I obtained the credit, I didn't put myself on the electoral role at my next address for 4 years. The address at which I lived 7 years ago belongs to a relative and so I'm still able to get post from there. I haven't applied for any credit for 7 years. I've had a basic bank account for 6 years and have never been overdrawn. To my knowledge, I have never been sent a CCJ for any of the debts. I'd really like to make a fresh start now and I've started thinking about getting myself sorted out and have the following questions... - If I apply for a credit report and give my new and previous addresses, will I start getting chased for my old debts? I've seen a few references to "Gone Away Information Network (GAIN)". Will asking for my credit report mean that it gets updated? If that happens, will I start receiving chasing letters? - Should I even quote my address of 7 years ago when I get my credit report? - If I apply for credit, should I use my old address or 7 years ago? I worried that I'll just be refused and then I'll start getting chased. - What is the best way forward for me to try and clean my credit record up so that I can look at rebuilding without being chased for these old debts? I've had advice from an 'advice website' telling me to get a full credit report even though this may mean the debt collectors would establish my new address. I'd really appreciate some help. I don't really need any credit, I just want to be able to build some semblance of a decent credit report so that I can get a mortage in the furtue. Thanks
