  4. thanks Pimpernel..... Thats what i wondered...are the council tax baliff laws the same as if its for a parking fine??...you say he can charge the legitamat fees, but what actually are they? Can they mount up to the £450 he is asking? Do i pay nothing until he provides a breakdown of these? thanks
  5. Hi all, Im in a bit of a pickle here i dont know what to do, if anything..... I got my driving licence years ago under my original surname....i got married a cpl of years later and bought a car under my married name ( paid for it with card, card in new surname ect ) so when V5 came for new car, its registered in my married name....however i just forgot to change my surname with DVLA on my licence....I have just left my driving licence in my original surnmae and changed my name on the V5 to match this...so both are now in my original name....however, i have remarried and now have a totally different surname again .....my car insurance is in my new surname....so all 3 dont match. I have only just changed my V5 surname as i thought il just change it to match my licence and all will be fine.....my question is do i change anything, or just leave it....my thought process was....i shall just leave my licence and V5 in my original surname, and use that....theres no law stating i must take my husbands name, so if anyone asks i shall use my maiden name....is this ok to do so?? My passport is still in my maiden name as it isnt due to expire for 3 years yet, so i have ID under maiden name....is this all lawfull or am i in the wrong here? Thanks all
  6. Hi Ptol Yes it fits the criteria he is looking for, its within his JS agreement....but if he turned it down, how would DWP know? His old boss simply foned him up and offered him it, he hasnt applied through the normal routes
  7. thanks Plodder i have just read a thread about baliffs and council tax and fees they can legally charge ect.....a few more questions I foned the baliff and when asked what i owe he said £450....parking fine was for £50....i asked how it was so much he just said " its my fees and that"....is this correct he can charge all this? In the letter i got off him yesterday it states that if he visits to take goods, he will charge £500....is this correct/ legal...can i be charged such a ridiculous rate? Am i correct in thinking that because its a council debt and the baliff is acting on their behalf....can i just simple ignore this baliff and deal direct with the council?? I understand not to open the door to him, but do i simply ignore the door or speak with him at all through a window or such? the council say today its all sorted out, but im not convinced please someone reply!! thanks
  8. Hi all, Looking for any views opinions on this matter. My husband was up until october last year amployed for 8 years at the same firm. He accepted voluntry redundancy as they had a company " shake up" and told they was no position anymore for him...anyway....we managed on what he had recieved from them and some savings we had until last month when we had to admit defeat and he went to sign on. As i work part time 16 hours, DWP said he could claim contribution based jobseekers allowance of i think its about £65 a week, and he could get it for 6 months, this means in june it will come to an end....i am registered disabled and recieve DLA middle care and higher mobility allowance..... my question is....what will happen come june when the JSA comes to an end....and would he be better off claiming Carers Allowance for me?? My husband has now just been contacted by his old firm offering him a job due to " restructuring" , but he is reluctant to go back" once bitten, twice shy" and all that and they wernt very nice to work for. We have just had some bad news from tax credits, they go on the previous years income when he worked, we have only been awarded £10.35 a week, i said but he is unemployed now and i only work part time, we have a child and a house to run, bills to pay....but they say until the new tax year 4th April that is all we can have. After looking at such sites as benfit checker and the like, we both feel a bit downhearted....it seems with all the benefits we could claim, if he returns to work will will be better off be just £35 a week....i think for getting up everyday and travel and all the stress that goes with the job....is it really worth it? Weres the incentive?? We have both always worked full time until last year when bodged surgery left me disabled and i had to return to work after a year off sick at just 16 hours...its only your own feeling of self worth that keeps me in work. I am thinking while we are only getting £10.35 a week off tax credits, my husband should return to work til at least april, then we would get a decent weekly income, then leave when the tax credits renewal come into play beginning of april and our money would go up?? What are peoples views on this situation.... what would you do??
  9. Hi all, In conversation with a friend, she mentioned she recived a letter from HSBC bank regarding a loan she had with them. In it they state that after her loan comes to an end, she is entitled too recieved a " cash back" amount of around £500....i think this equates to around 10% of the original loan. She rang them asking what it was all about, and the woman on the line informed her it was because of never missing a payment, good customer blah blah. Has anyone else had experience of such a thing? Any views or opinions greatly appreciated. " money for nothing" ??? seems too good to be true
  10. Hi King, thanks for your reply....id feel a bit better if it did amount to £167, but the baliff on the fone said it was £450, that was without his visit!! When i asked why it was so much, he said its added his fees on....cant believe it is so high!! Anyway, i went into my local council office, and spoke to the manager....he said he had been in contact with the parking offices to day, and recieved an email regarding my case. He said it had all been " delt with" and they had sent a letter to me telling me it was all sorted. I said well how come the baliff is coming tomorrow, he said they will be called off and that will be the end of the matter. On further enquiry, this april parking fine is for the same reason as the october fine, badge issued wrongly. I said to the manager, i hope they have squashed the april fine as thats what all the bother is about, and he said yes, its all been delt with, if the baliff comes just dont let him in.....but im not convinced my council have sorted it all, as the baliff on the fone seems to know nothing about it. I await this letter from the paring they have supposedly sent me, hopefully it mite come tomorrow and i can show the baliff it. Hi surfer, thanks for your reply.....I have never recieved any letter or paperwork at all....i can only assume the wind blew the fine off my window or kids messing about pulled it off, i dont know.....but i certainly wouldnt just have ignored it and left it all this time, i would have appealed like i did for the october fine....im so annoyed about it all.....i cant understand how i have not recieved any letter or anything regarding this matter, but then i get a letter from a balliff....am i rite in thinking i would have recived a court summons then from what king says?? Anyway if no letter comes from the parking office tomorrow im going back in to hassel them....if i do end up having to pay this fine, will the baliff do a payment plan or something??? im a disabled mother and i just have not this £450 hes asking for....iv been into council today and made a formal complaint against the member of staff who issued the blue badge wrongly and explained all the hassel its caused me, and iv asked for them to pay all the costs involved, fine, ballif fees ect.... under there official complaints system. Anybodys elses views opinions on this matter greatfully appreciated
  11. Hi all, Recieved a letter yesterday from a baliff firm called CCS enforcement.........it says its regarding a parking fine from april and they will be visiting my home tomorrow to remove goods and also adding a £500 fee on for attending. I didnt know anything about a parking fine from april, and i have not recieved any letters regarding this apart from this baliffs letter that landed on the mat yesterday. I recieved a parking fine in october, which i appealed against, as it stated the reason for fine was not paying and displaying a ticket, but as i am disabled, i hole a blue badge which was clearly visable....the long and short of it is they fined me because the badge was invalid, as the council officer who issued the badge had written an incorrect date format " 29/DMR/2010".....the parking warden said that means nothing to them and it the expirery date should have been written either " 29/12/2010"...or...."29/DEC/2010".....anyway i appealed and have had the october fine quashed as it was the error of the council officer issuing the badge wrong. I have since got a correct badge issued. I telephoned the baliff and said i know nothing about a fine from april, and had recieved no letters...and explained about the other fine being squashed. I asked how much i would have to pay and he said it was £450!!! i cant believe it....theres no way i can pay that im a disabled single parent. He said leave it with him and he would look into it, he would not attend tomorrow and would be back in the office friday and get back in touch with me. I suspect this fine is for the same reason as the one in october...which again is the fault of the council and the incorrect badge issued. I am going into council offices shortly to enquire why i got this fine, and again i will request it squahed if it is the same reason..... WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THE BALIFFS???? Iv never had any dealing with anything like this before, debt ppl and such.....im worried sick[/size]
  12. Hi, Gapapentin is a drug used for nerve damage normally....it must be started on a low dose, gradually increasing the dosage over a number of days. It can have nasty side effects if this method is not followed and you are put straight onto a high dose, maybe this is why you are experiencing the sickness and dizziness. Check with your GP
  13. OMG!! I have telephoned them today explaining i dont acknowledge the debt, and to request they send me proof in writing ( which i will back up with a letter as suggested ).....the man told me i must acknowledge the debt because i had an interview in Feb 2007 under caution admitting to receive a penalty charge on this account inside of it going to court!!!! I cant believe it!! I never had such thing! i dont know anything about it, no letters no calls nothing until i got the letter saying i owe money yesterday!! It must be somebody else with the same name or something! Does anybody know which template letter i could use to send DWP or can anybody help futher? thanks
  14. No, sorry Erika i dont think i explained myself properly......I have NEVER acknowledge this debt that i have recieved the letter for......i aknowleged ONE DEBT and paid it off by 2005. I thought that was the end of the matter, until i get this letter today nearly 7 years later. When i call the number on the letter, the man on fone explained this amount of £748 is made up of ANOTHER 3 SEPERATE DEBTS, one for overpayment of income support, and two for social fund loans.....all from 2001-02. So i have truthfull not ackowledged the debt for 7 years....because they failed to inform me about it until today's letter! So it should be statute.....so they cannot persue me legally thro the courts for this money, only take it from any benefits ( i recieve none anyway )....so am i correct in thinking this? Is it indeed, statute!!??? And what would happen next if i dont respond to the letter, or should i respond and what should i say?? advice please
  15. Hello all! Im hoping someone has advice for me regarding this issue.... I received a letter this morning from DWP regarding an " outstanding debt of £748.45". It goes on to state that DWP are responsible for collecting this money, however if they dont hear from me by 25/02/09, my case is being transferred to a private debt collection company. I had no idea what this letter was about so i telephoned the number listed. I spoke to a man who informed me that the money i supposedly owe is made up of 2 social fund loans and overpayment of income support. I told him i have not claimed income support for at least 7 years, and he told me the money owed was from 2001-2!! He said according to the computer, i was paying the debt off in instalments of £38 a month, but then just stopped paying in 2005. This jogged my memory and i remembered paying the instalments, and i stopped paying by cancelling the direct debit because i received a letter confirming that the debt was clear and i had paid the money back. He said he did not have the letter sent out to me on his computer, then i informed him it was at my old address which i have not lived at for 2 years, and also the letter will have been addressed to me in my maiden name ( as is the letter i received today)...suddenly with this info, he found a copyt on file of the letter confirming i owed nothing, then went on to say it was just ONE of the debts i owed which i had paid. I explained that the letter did not state that it was seperate amounts owed, just one amount, so obviously i thought that was the end of the matter as the letter said it was clear. He said it was " crossed wires" and the matter remains i still owe a total of £748.45 for two debts outstanding. He told me i stopped paying the direct debits in july 2005, and i told him i moved out my old house in Nov 2006. I asked him why inbetween this time did i receive no correspondance as to why i had stopped paying if i still owed money? he said he did not know, but DWP had sent 3 letters to my old address in Oct-Nov 2008.....(so did not contact me for 3 years since i stopped paying). I explained obviously i had not received the letters from Oct-Nov 2008 as i had moved in 2007. I was annoyed and asked why DWP had failed to contact me for supposed debts owed from 2001 until now 2009!! He just kept saying he did not know as it had been transferred from the jobcentre.... the question is ...am i right to assume that i do not have to pay this £748.45 owed, as its a total of two seperate debts from 2001-2 which i have not paid anything off.....??? can they still persue me from this money 7 years later or is it statute??? I am tempted to let it go to a debt collection agency if this is the case because i dont think i have to pay it now after 7 years. I paid regular until i got the letter saying i owed nothing. Now, years later they are saying i still owe!!!! Please advise on my position. xx
  16. Hello! I dont know which supplier you are currently with, but i do know British Gas have a tarriff called " Essentials" , which is a lower tariff available to those on certain benefits. I receive tax credits and i am on this lower tariff for my gas and electricity...its not massivley cheaper than the standard tarriff deal , but it is cheaper nontheless and every saving helps!!! It really is worth checking what tarriff you are on with your supplier, as they may also have a simliar tarriff for people on benefits, and even if they dont have a specific benefit tariff, there may be a cheaper one than what you are on at the moment. I am saving around £25 a mont by just switching tariffs. Hope this helps!
