  1. Actually Gordi abolished the fuel tax escalator - which was heralded as a good thing when he did it - little did we know that it left him able to do what the hell he wanted to do with fuel tax.
  2. Where do Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons get their fuel? I doubt they mine the oil themselves.

    Road Tax - new car

Honestly? Wow. I dread sending them anything - they lose about 75% of everything I send them. My ex partner has had the same experience. They even sent her tax disc to the wrong address, then wanted to charge her 25 quid to have it sent again.

    Road Tax - new car

Oh, I don't like the sound of sending anything original to the DVLA. They've lost so many letters/application forms etc... of mine that I would rather send a copy.

    Road Tax - new car

Excellent - thanks for that; I was hoping that was the case, as it runs out this week. All I have to do now is hope that the insurance certificate turns up before then!

    Road Tax - new car

Hi All, I've just bought a new car (well, second-hand, new to me), and the tax runs out at the end of this month. I want (well, not want, but you know what I mean) to retax it, I have it insured and it's just passed an MOT, but I don't have the V5 as that has been sent to the DVLA. I'm hopeful that the insurance cert will arrive before Friday, but what do I do about the V5? I still have the green slip that I shall send to the DVLA tomorrow with my address etc...or should I keep that and give it to the post office when I go to buy the tax?

    Fuel Protest

More oil and in particular, more fresh water is used in the production of a car than CO2 emitted during it's lifetime. There are people in the world who are dying through lack of access to fresh water. How is it then, that as they suggest, "oil is running out" (I personally think this is yet more lies and spin) and we are at 'peak oil', that water is still 'cheap'? There's more oil than fresh water.
  8. It was probably turned off today due to the extra load and crash this morning - it takes the pressure off.
  9. I can't see a CAG CU starting up anytime soon. It would take far too much time, and too much effort - time and effort. As stated above, there's little point to reinventing the wheel.
  10. Just for information, this is about to be reverted to the way it was once again. It was the first thing Gordon said he would do when he took the Prime Minister's position. Then again, can we believe it?
  11. With all due respect, I think you may have missed the point of the idea of moving. The 8 banks (7 and 1 BS) LOST the case that was to determine if the OFT had juristiction over their charges. Rather than take that on the chin and do the decent thing, they have decided to appeal - this process will now drag on for another 1, 2, 3, 4, ? years - all that time banks will be allowed to make the poorest of society poorer by way of charging them what we believe to be unlawful charges. The second thing that happens during the appeal is that they will also be given an extention to the 'waiver', meaning that they don't even have to deal with bank charge 'complaints'. The third thing that happens is that the ordinary person no longer has the right to use the judiciary to attempt to put things right, as most county courts will 'stay' any bank charge case while waiting for the outcome of the appeal. I am suggesting that we punish those greedy 8, who know exactly what they are doing and exactly who it hurts the most, by moving any account that we have with them to a bank that DIDN'T appeal or indeed wasn't involved in the first place. The Co-op appear to charge less than the others, and yes, whilst I agree that for the most part all banks are as greedy and unscrupulous as the next, the Co-op will at least punish you less than the others. It will send the message that the other's charges are too high, and in turn, if enough of us move there, the others may be forced (by market forces) to lower their charges too. It's still not good enough, but at least it's sending the message that we will not put up with their utter contempt for their customers. I can just imagine the conversations after the OFT case: Warwick: "Bugger, we lost that one" Tarquin: "Oh well, no problem, we'll just appeal" Warwick: "Brilliant, then we can string it out for a few more years and pull in an extra 7-10 Billion quid." Tarquin: "Exactly. See you in the club later?" Warwick: "Bugger the club, I'll meet you on my new yacht."
  12. Indeed I have; I have also made it clear that it is not advocated by CAG. (although personally I feel it should be)
  13. Sounds like a plan, but be aware that this is just my opinion - CAG probably won't endorse it.
  14. Not a bad idea at all. I need to read more about this before I make comment.
  15. OK, we're getting really off-topic here. Perhaps we should start a new thread and let this one get back to where it should be. I like the idea of a CAG credit union, but seriously, I (and most of us) barely have time to be here as it is at the moment let alone administer something like that.
  16. I am almost giddy with excitement. Seriously, I am. This is fantastic. Does anyone know where a list of credit unions is?
  17. We've had face to face meetings too. I wasn't this cynical until we started this site. I was hopeful too that MPs actually did their job for US. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope so, but we've been down this road many times. These are the same people that allowed them to get into a position this powerful. Then they bail them out with our money. The banks cannot lose when backed like that. They all went to uni together and they all know which finger to press when in a handshake.
  18. My god! I seriously hope that is true. Have you a link to back that up? That is REALLY interesting.
  19. I still think Facebook is a good medium for spreading the word - it can't hurt. The group is here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=36100485920 The wording needs some work, I agree. If anyone has a copyright free image for the group, please let me know.
  20. That is true. I agree. But after starting this site nearly 3 years ago, I have learned one thing at least: that is, that for the most part MP's do not care. My MP for instance has considerable shares in LTSB. Many other MP's also have shares in one of the big 4 (very easy to find out as they are in the register of interests). Now many will say that it should not cloud their judgement. It shouldn't - that much is correct. But we are talking about people who have been lining their pockets with our money for years - this pittance is nothing to them, and they will not harm their self interests as has been seen many a time on the news - and that's only when they are caught out. I do feel that there are a few MPs that got into that game for the right reason - and some still feel that way. Some. There are 274 bank charge related groups on Facebook - with an average of 1100 members each. I admit that there will be a lot of cross-overs. But if there were not (and there is no way I can work that out without access to the facebook database), that would mean over 300,000 people who *may* be interested in changing bank accounts from the main offenders. Of that we can reasonably expect maybe 2-10%. It's enough to send a message. In the past, when I used to have have a bank account and I changed to another, I was asked why. They probably have a database of the reason why people change bank.
  21. I like it. Are you volunteering? It may not be for here, but we can certainly publish elsewhere.
  22. Indeed we will keep plugging at every level. There's been quite a lot of movement so far and there's no sign of the campaign letting up any time soon.
