  1. If the bus lane was only in operation at certain times, the times would be shown on the sign. If no times are shown, its a 24hrs bus lane.
  2. OK got it. It would be an irresponsible person who would drive fast just because the sign was missing. Its still a 30mph limit, what you are saying is that there would be a defence.
  3. I think the operative word there Pat was 'assumed'. What happens if a terminal sign is missing from an entry/exit point to a 30mph road but there are multiple entry/exit points with existing terminal signs? Its still a 30mph road isnt it?
  4. My copy of the highway code says Amber means stop unless by doing so it would cause an accident. There would be a defence for the Amber but not for red as it would be poor anticipation if you were unable to stop for that.
  5. It looks to me like it says "Parking Charge Notice" not 'Penalty' so that makes it a different thing and implies its a private ticket not council. Out of curiosity, which hospital was it?
  6. This is on the police advice website, it is what the police themselves advise.
  7. I agree. The way I see it is that even if it is about raising revenue, then you make voluntary contributions, so simply choose not to contribute.
  8. I dont understand why you think that with 3 points already, two speeding convictions pending and potentially 'tons' more on the way in the coming week, that you think any magistrate would do anything other than come down on you very hard. I wouldnt go near a court if I were you.
  9. But at what point does someones speed become irresponsible? 60 in a 50 is 20% over, so is it 30%, 40% or 50% even? Im not commenting on your case in particular, just wondering
  10. Driving instructors might just as well be driving for the 8 hour day! They have to have eyes in the back of their head, feet at the ready at the duals, and also be ready to grab the steering wheel at anytime! On top of that they are trying to teach as they do all this! Knackering and, the two DI's on here may or may not agree with me, isn't, despite all the ads to the contrary, all its cracked up to be! Not financially anyway.quote] Three Everything they have said so far is spot on.
  11. But what do the terminal signs say if you have turned from a 30 into a 30? There would be NO terminal signs because NOTHING has changed, which appears to be the o.p problem. You could not turn off a 30mph road, claim that there were no terminal signs, boot it expect to get away with it now could you? There would be NO terminal signs because its still a 30! You are correct that if you came from a higher speed limit into a 30 and the sign was missing, there would be grounds to contest a ticket, but you appear to miss this point completly when its the other way around. Nothing you say will change that fact.
  12. I dont disagree with any of that, but if the o.p came off a 30 limit into a new road which was still a 30, what would the terminal signs say?
  13. So without a terminal sign then, I could go as fast as I like? Sounds like an excuse to go out with my set of spanners and remove some signs. I remember the case of someone getting off because of no terminal signs and am not disagreeing about that, but to say there is 'no limit' is not correct, there is always a limit. Without a terminal sign, the speed limit has not changed from the last posted sign, but a limit would still be in force. So if that person had been on a single carriageway with a national speed limit, it would be national until a terminal sign said otherwise, and if that sign was missing, you could argue about the limit. But my point is that if you were on a 30, then you are still on a 30 until something says otherwise. So the o.p. claim that there were no signs says to me that it was still a 30, if it had been a 40 as they thought, then there would have been a sign to that effect.
  14. It's a 30 unless signs say otherwise. If the speed limit changed there would be signage to that effect, then when it finished a sign would change it back to 30 which is what I'm assuming you mean. The impression I got from the o.p was that they simply believed a different speed limit to be in place, people often believe this to be the case when the road is not built up for example.
  15. If there really are no signs, and there are street lights, then its a 30.
  16. Cobra, I dont come on here to judge people as its not my place nor my job but the way I see this is that your phone companys bill tells you that you made a call at 2.28, then the copper saw you, maybe a minute or two later so thats 2.30. Then he pulled you up and spoke to you, so maybe 2.32, then wrote you a ticket. Is the time on his watch synchronised with your service provider? I doubt it so we are within the realm of them being out by a couple of minutes, which gives us the 2.35 You are seriously on a hiding to nothing contesting this and if it went to court that is how they would look at it.
  17. Im With Rooster, you did it, you admit you did it, so its a fair cop. Its illegal for good reason!
  18. Just a small point but an Amber light means STOP. Years ago the police would pull someone up and tell them they had gone through on red and human nature being to talk your way out of something, people would say 'no it was amber' and in doing so admit the offence. The only defence would be that if someone was close behind, and it would cause an accident if you stopped.
  19. Luckly it doesnt apply to you. It applies for two years after getting your first full licence, which in your case was 17 years ago so youre in the clear.
  20. I was under the impression that you get a 'defect rectification notice' or 'VDRS' which basically means for a minor defect like this you take it to be repaired, get proof that it has been repaired, and no action is taken. It used to cost £5 for the garage to sign it off as repaired. Thats what happened if you were stopped by the police, so either things have changed or someone is being over zealous. I would write back asking why this option had not been offered.
  21. had a development with this. My bank called back to say that they looked into this and discovered that a transaction went through for £25.10 and was then voided, it was then resent through for £75 but no void receipt was requested and so appears fraudulent so they have contacted the store who now have 48 hours to explain the no void receipt request and prove a receipt for £75. They also said it would be difficult to spend exactly £75 in the store concerned and they have this type of thing regularly from them
