colour-me-happy replied to blinkyblinkyblonk's topic in Halifax and IF successes
I'm beginning to sound like a stuck record now but Recorded is a waste of time. What has probably happened is that if they have several items of recorded mail the postman gets them to sign just 1 slip. so chances are they have *probably* got it, it's also probable that they won't reply anyway:rolleyes: they ignored both my prelim and lba (even though it was in the same envelope with a letter they did reply to . If necessary *if* you were to get to court you can show you have made sufficient effort to resolve the matter, just keep your recorded delivery slip Hope that helps. -
Any advise welcome

I was scared too!! They paid my claim within 10 days :D Good luck! -
Will they close my account?
colour-me-happy replied to emmie42's topic in Halifax Bank and Bank of Scotland
I'm not sure to be honest, they have threatened to close my account if I get any further charges (they settled my claim last week) and I have had another charge but heard nothing since then. Try the HSBC they have a basic bank account -
It's the Halifax/Albion (debt collectors)/Blair Oliver Scott (debt collectors) ..... depending on what day of the week it is They are top of the list on my "choose to refuse" with BT

What a nightmare for you, I applied online for mine (I have ccj's, defaults etc coming out of my ears! ) and had no problem at all, I didn't even need to send any id, when I was applying I called them and asked what their criteria was and they told me there was none (except the bankruptcy) and according to my credit file they just carried out a generic id check rather than a credit check. The Co-op basic account has been recommended a few times on here although I haven't got one myself -

Hi, was it a step account you applied for? Their criteria for that account is that they will only decline you if you are/have been bankrupt, just check with them, it may have been processed as a different account -
For people who would have problems opening a new account

I've actually got one of these and while I don't use it to have wages paid in I think it is great, there are so many places that don't take Solo or Electron cards so I find it really convenient to have. I've never been charged the monthly fee, just a fee per transaction (always less than a pound) and you can check your balance online. As I say I think it's great, you can't rack up heaps of debt (I see a credit limit as a target more than a limit!). -
Although the maximum is £5000... that is per claim, you can claim in chunks eg; 2000 - 2003 then when that is settled claim 2003 - 2006, don't do both claims together as they could be combined and you would still end up on a different court track and liable for costs.

I stand corrected! In my defence the DPA letter was different when I started my first claim, just seen it now, I am moving on to my next target -
Setting up "Parachute" bank account. Which is best for online banking?

Haha, I think the Halifax online banking is fab but I just couldn't bring myself to recommend them as a bank I've only just opened my Natwest account and not had any charges *so far* -

Natwest is pretty good -
I can see no reason why you can't send the Prelim letter, although when you send the DPA it does question any manual intervention, which would be helpful *if* your case where to get to court, but it's not a major problem. I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs but have you read the FAQ? Are you aware the limit for the small claims is £5000? If you file for over £5000 you could be on dodgy ground and end up in the fast track where you *could* be liable for costs should you lose. It is highly unlikely but something you should consider.

Unfortunately not, the charge is for a service it's not a penalty. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! :-|

A question if I may...

Not strictly true, the creditors could become difficult in accepting repayments that have been offered. -

Colour-me-happy v Halifax - SETTLED IN FULL
colour-me-happy replied to colour-me-happy's topic in Halifax and IF successes
Got the letter advising they were going to reimburse me this morning.... It's quite funny, they say "Halifax is willing to reimburse £xxxx.xx in respect of charges incurred, together with £xxx.xx in respect of approximate interest that Halifax has calculated was charged on your account as a result of the charges. " They didn't calculate the interest I did!! : Also got the usual my responsibility to operate the account correctly and if I incur any further charges they will close the account ......... a charge is due to come out tomorrow, so I will be interested to see what they do!! -

It is recommended you use the template for a DPA Subject Access Request because it requests further key info in addition to the list of charges eg; the question of Manual Intervention. If you request this info and they confirm or deny any intervention will be helpful should your case get to court. Bear in mind the Halifax do not always do what they say they will, if you have not had your statements within 7 days I would strongly recommend you do the DPA as they have a legal obligation to comply with this, yes it "could" take 40 days but believe me it is worth the wait -
HALIFAX LOAN ARREARS help!!
colour-me-happy replied to Ally's topic in Halifax Bank and Bank of Scotland
Hi Ally, I have had the same problem with the Halifax stripping my accounts for arrears on my loan account, they took almost £2000 in one go , this was while I was paying the agreed payments. I would try a Natwest Step account, you can apply online and just return the paperwork by post, so it shouldn't take up too much time. It's not a bad basic account, you get a solo card and it also has online banking. It is an amazing feeling not worrying what the Halifax are going to do next, I really don't know what took me so long to sort out. -

As far as I am aware the £10 is not reclaimable. When you pay the £10 you are actually paying for a service .... getting your information.
