  1. ims - works perfectly - thank you so much! I am sure it will be really helpful to other out there too. dx - are you saying that I should only be asking Egg for the 8% when it goes to court. Just fos are saying they should be paying back the 16% CI plus the 8% statutory from the off as part of their redress guidelines. Oh man I am getting confused now! The reason I am pushing it with Egg is because they haven't paid back the 8%.
  2. ims, Really sorry to have to do this but I am still having problems with the calculations on this spreadsheet. There is an error with the way the statutory interest is worked out. To quote dx from another thread of mine "its 8% to the total of [charge+their int] PCM from each charges date" The thread I am talking about is here http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?304721-Help-with-PPI-Calculation-please! eg - (Charge + CI) + 8% = total the way you have worked it out is by adding the charge + CI + 8% of the charge not the CI and the Charge added together. Does this make sense? Just makes a big difference to my figures. I will ask dx to check I am not talking rubbish first. I will get there in the end. Hope your having a good day? K
  3. Hi, problem was the formatting of the cells. I had to input the date in in the U.S. format. I think it may have just been my pc, but just in case this is what I had to do. Highlight a21 date cell, right click - format cells. Number column look for date and select, just in case it's in U.S. locale, change it to uk. As I say I think it was a problem with the settings on my excel. It seems that once it's changed it applies to all documents old and new. Sorted now thank god! Thank you so much for this one ims, and your patience. Will get my lba off now with confidence. Hope you enjoyed yourself last night K
  4. Really pulling my hair out! Done as you have advised - got my other half to check it out as he is pretty good with excel (IT degree) - but he says he doesn't want to mess with the formulas. Would it be possible for you to put a couple of examples on the spready and post it up again? k
  5. ims - really appreciate the work you have done on the spreadsheet. I have been trying to get the calculations right, but I don't know what I am doing wrong. Whenever I enter a date or charge amount I am getting VALUE in the total or nothing. I also can not put anything in the end date of claim? Am I doing something wrong? Thank you Kate
  6. ims - Thank you very much - going to check out the updated spready later - got to nip out on the school run. Appreciate your help - I will give you a shout if you are about later if I get stuck. K
  7. Ok - understood, but I though I was supposed to ask for the 8% from the off, especially if you are claiming at a lower CI rate? Can I only ask for the 8% at court stage? I have followed the fos guidelines and this is what I have been told to ask for. K
  8. Anyone got any advice??? Please help!
  9. Many thanks for the spreadsheet - I am now redoing all my calculations using the excel spreadsheet. I need help with a basic question - The way I am calculating my figures is using the contractual interest at 16.9% then adding 8% on top. Would it be easier just to use 24.9% or do 2 separate spreadsheets? 1 with 16.9% and the other with 8% and then add the totals together? First time I have used the excel spreadsheet method, so I apologise if it is a basic question. Thank you K
  10. Hi there, I am going to do a letter before action, give them 14 days, if they fail to pay up the remainder I am going to fill in my N1. Before I do I would really appreciate it if someone could check that my figures are about right. I have worked with fos guidelines. Added CI (16.9%) and added 8% on the top - (PPI charge + CI) + 8% = total Calculations are up to 11/5/11 I have done a basic and lengthy spreadsheet on word (I now know there is a better way of doing it, but I have done it now). The method I have used is from the sticky http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?249257-PPI-Interest-Calculator No need to check the whole thing, but if I am on the right lines that is great - hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! Many thanks in advance, K
  11. ims - looks that way! Just need to make sure I have got my figures correct 1st. Thank you. K
  12. As mentioned above FOS found in my favour and I eventually got a cheque from Egg - extremely disappointing as it was less thank half of what I was expecting. The calculations they sent were completely random, they also gave me 200 compensation, but even with the compensation it was less than half. I contacted the guy from the ombudsman and asked him if I should write asking for a detailed breakdown and the rest of the money they owed? He agreed that this was the best way forward. Weeks later I still hadn't heard anything. I wrote again, and my man at FOS also asked them to look into it. I received a letter a couple of weeks ago advising they would look into it and get back to me, but it could be sometime due to the recent PPI ruling. This is just a joke, and seems never ending. FOS have found in my favor but Egg are just messing about. Do you think I should tell them to pay up within the next 7 days or I will be starting court proceedings? (Slick will email you my spreadsheet that I sent) Help as always will be appreciated. K
  13. Anyone out there got any advice for me???? thank you
  14. Evening peeps, I am after some advice for a friend of mine that is having difficulty with her housing benefit. This is the basic story- At the time my friend was working part time, living with her partner who was claiming JSA, they had one child and was pregnant with her second. At that time she was receiving a small contribution towards council tax and housing benefit. A few weeks before her second child was born she broke up with her partner and was left on her own. She contacted the housing and council tax benefit dept to advise them of her change in circumstances, and she was expecting her second child in a few weeks. They increase her benefits a little but still had to make a huge contribution towards her rent and council tax. It left her with very little to live on. She then assumed that thatwas what her entitlement, she was not really sure how the benefit system worked. In April there was a review of her benefits and she is now in full receipt, and should of been ever since her second child was born 9 months ago. They owe her nearly 2,000 in unclaimed benefits. They are refusing to back pay her it as the said that she did not let them know when the baby was born. They have said that she can appeal the decision if she wants to, but has been advised she hasn't got a leg to stand on because she has no evidence that she told them that the baby was born, only that she was due a few weeks earlier. Can anyone advise whether or not it is worth her appealing? she has been struggling for months paying when she didn't need to. She has obviously been naive and not known her rights and what she is entitled to. It is a lot of money and she could really do with it. If the shoe was on the other foot they would be taking her to court or the money. Any help in advance would be really appreciated - I really feel for her as she has had a tough ride and could do with a break. Thanks guys!
  15. Hi guys, I am now trying to reclaim my charges back from Barclaycard. I thought I would start the thread so people could see how I get on, and as it may help others trying to do the same. Any advice or help along the way would be greatly appreciated. The charges only worked out to be 350 pound, but as they were going back to about 2000 it totalled up to over 3,000. I used the following link and advise to work out the figures. I was really shocked at the total. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?249257-PPI-Interest-Calculator I added their CI and 8% statutory interest. Reading through the threads I wasn't sure whether to add the 8% at this stage but thought it would always give me room for negotiation later on. Anyone disagree?? have also read that it is likely that I will probably have to go down the court route to get anywhere with them. A week after sending my initial letter I got a letter back saying that they couldn't confirm who I was as the address they have on file is different, this is a load of rubbish as I have been dealing with them over a different issue for over a year. I wrote back to them expressing my annoyance etc and told them they had to stick to the original time scales, which has already passed. So if I don't hear from them by Monday I will be writing back to them. Will update the thread when I have an update, any advise or help along them way, or about the above, as always is appreciated. Bye for now K PS Does anyone know what is happening about credit card charges? Obviously we know about the bank charges an their stance, but not sure what is happening with C cards? Anyone know?
  16. Martin, did you manage to have a look at the defence docs? Wanted to get my reply off today so just wondered if you had any thoughts? Cheers
  17. Evening Martin, I have emailed you the defense that the sols have sent me as requested. Let me know what you think. Thanks Kate
  18. BB, apologies for the incorrect info about the CI% - and thank you for the correction dx - explains why I only got the 8% back. Good luck BB!
  19. link as promised! http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/technical_notes/ppi.html
  20. ok gone through your thread again. I have dealt with a miss-sold PPI claim from a loan, it was with the Halifax and the loan was repaid. I got the full amount plus 8% statutory interest. It appear you are just hitting your head against a brick wall. In this case I would definitely just pass it on the the FOS to deal with. Quite clearly you have been miss-sold the PPI so it shouldn't be a problem with them finding in your favor. Dealing with the FOS is quite straight forward. You need to fill in a copy of their questionnaire and send them all correspondence from you and central trust. If the loan is still outstanding and you have not finished paying it back the FOS guideline will insist that they pay you back contractual interest + 8% - but the laon will be redressed and taken off the outstanding balance rather than in your pocket. If it was for a credit card it would be the same, just taken off the balance. The only way you would get it as a written cheque is if you had finished paying back the loan. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but a least you will get a big chunk taken off with the added interest, and it will add up to quick a large amount I think. I will post the link for the FOS questionnaire when I find it. it will take some time - but be patient and you will get there. Do not give up! All the best KX
  21. bobbydog, Can I just check a couple of things - Are they saying they have cancelled the PPI on the loan? Are they refusing to redress/refund you? Is the loan still active? KX
