  1. You won't find your parts if they are obsolete. You find lots of websites offering parts for sale for your boiler but what these sites actually do is list the parts and even mark them as "in stock" but all they do is place an order with the manufacturer or supplier and have the part sent directly to you, acting as a middleman so to speak. An obsolete boiler's parts will still be listed but you'll find that when you need a part and order it from one of these online shops, you'll get an email in a day or so saying "part not in stock" or "Part Obsolete" and you'll be refunded. You may think its utter nonsense and willing to take your chances but I guarantee you'll be the one losing in the end. Boilers aren't magic, they are mechanical appliances that wear out, manufacturers are not interested in producing parts continually for old, out of date appliances so eventually they do run out. I'm a BG Engineer and take pride in my job. The information I give to my customers is to help them realise the condition of their appliance and the situation regarding parts availability etc. We as engineers can only advise you of the situation but it's up to YOU whether you act on the advise. I personally couldn't care where or who my customers buy their replacement boilers from so long as it's installed correctly. As far as recommending Powerflushing, this should ALWAYS be done with evidence i.e. a water quality inspection. If I do ever inform my customers of sludge in their system I always drain part of the system to show the customer the state of the water. Sludge will also be present in the mechanical water parts (Pump, Valves etc), which is easily seen once the part is removed from the system. This at least proves to my customers that there is no scare tactic to get them to pay for the Powerflush. It is true, we will reject breakdown claims if it has been PROVEN the system is in need for a Powerflush but these claims are only on water carrying parts such as Pumps, Diverter valves, heat Exchangers. Why would you expect a company to keep coming back to replace the same parts over and over again when it is not the part that's faulty, it's the problem with the system? To put it another way, if you bought a car with a warranty, the dealership wouldn't give you a new engine in your car if the engine blew up because you hadn't had the oil replaced in the first two years.
  2. Hi Slick The thing is, I do not have a copy of a contract as I was never asked to sign one. The only thing I signed at the gym was a Direct Debt mandate and nothing else, which was the same as my mate who joined the gym just before me, he was never asked to sign a contract either. So I don't have one to review. My concern at this point is that even though I know I didn't sign a contract at the time of joining the gym, what is to stop them forging my signature onto a contract and claiming I have signed one? I have no proof otherwise.
  3. Hi guys Well well well, got home from work to find another letter from Ashbourne Mis-Management once again wanting payment, this time stating that they will forward my details to their solicitor to recover the money they say I owe them. I've looked at the Enforcement Order and section 1 clearly states that they cannot demand payment for the term of Gym memberships. Surely this means that by sending me the letter I received this morning, means they are in Contempt of Court? I know this is possibly a grey area etc but curious as to what happens next. It turns out my dad knows a solicitor that may help me for a fee to get them off my back but I'm not one for relying on just one possibility, I like to plan for the worst.
  4. Hi slick I am happy to report that even though my contract was only 12 months, since that letter was sent to Ashbourne (mis)Management, I have had no further communications from them or any debt collector.
  5. I have included the OFT summary as well, I've printed everything off to be included in with the letter. On another note, I have spoken to ARC (Europe) Ltd to let them know of my situation. They have informed me that they are fully aware of the court case and the ruling and as a result have returned all of the debts back to Ashbourne Management Services Ltd to await further instructions. So anyone that has letters from ARC about debts from Ashbourne can relax for now.
  6. Ah brilliant thanks for that! That's one letter being sent on Tuesday morning then
  7. Hi all As per the title, I'm having a bit of trouble with the AM and ARC Ltd. I cancelled my gym membership, the same as most people having problems, by cancelling my direct debit as instructed by the Gym Manager. After which I've being getting monthly letters stating I owe them money. I got home from work today to find a letter from ARC Europe Ltd demanding the payment in full with in 10 days etc etc the usual stuff. After reading several threads on here about it I was overjoyed to see that the OFT were involved with them and that the Judge's ruling was due today, the OFT's website has been updated with the ruling by the way After reading through the ruling and finding several statements in the ruling that applied to me, I drafted a letter to send to AM and will also be forwarding it to ARC as well. As I'm not up on this legal stuff, is my letter OK to send? Also, I would like to send the letter Recorded Delivery but from what I understand, you can't send Rec Dev to PO Boxes, does anyone know of a proper address for Ashbourne Management? Any further info would be great as well
  8. Here's a 50/50 pic of the OEM Subaru calipers and 294mm disc on the right, and the Prodrive/Alcon caliper and 328mm disc on the left They upgrade is a direct bolt on kit
  9. Larger 4pot calipers 328mm vent & slotted discs Prodrive Pads Not sure whether braided hoses are included in that on the P1 but I have Goodridge braided hoses on my car.
  10. Yeah I understand that though I would've thought it would have been evident of a material/manufacture defect with the way these Discs have corroded like they have under the exact same conditions as the previous Brake Discs. The Genuine Prodrive discs supplied with the kit were the same size as these and they didn't corrode at all.
  11. £5000 will be for a fully adjustable Brake upgrade for race use only ie. muh higher operating temperatures. The Brake upgrade is the Subaru approved Prodrive / Alcon performance upgrade that was offered originally on the Impreza P1 for £1200 extra and not a cheap kit, about right for 330mm big brake upgrade. This kit is also available as a the Alcon Tarmac Rally kit via Demon Tweeks for around £1500. Other kits are available at roughly the same price; Brembo, AP Racing etc with K-Sport's kit been even cheaper! The only kits to my knowledge that have a starting price higher than £1500 is Endless Brakes & Project Mu. I got the kit cheap via another member of Scoobynet, I wanted to keep the performance parts Subaru/STI/Prodrive as much as possible so bought this kit. They were cheap because the seller's car had been written off, I paid £500 for the kit, obviously second hand. These new Brake Discs (just the discs) were then purchased from Godspeed, who advertises on Scoobynet, at a cost of £410. I was assured these ones were ideal for the kit I had. Basically from the email replies, it is been implied that this corrosion is my fault for not using the car more often but so far, I have been offered the Skimming of the discs F.O.C. (which I would've expected at the very least) and been told that it is a 24hr turn around for the skimming to be done and sent back to me. He has also stated that the guarantee will still be valid on the skimmed discs.
  12. Hi all I drive a Subaru Impreza and 12months ago I upgraded the brakes to the Prodrive / Alcon 4 pot calipers and 330mm Discs. The discs needed replaced and I bought a pair of Discs from Godspeed Brakes in August / September 2009 at a cost of £410. I specifically went for these as they advertise via Scoobynet and offer a guarantee on the discs. Last month I posted this on Scoobynet; This was Godspeed's reply After following these instructions I stripped the brakes and found this had happened to the Discs Off Side Disc Near Side Disc This picture clearly shows where part of the surface of the disc has broken off After cleaning them up as much as possible I reported what I'd found to Godspeed Brakes The PM was sent Sunday afternoon, I wasn't expecting a reply at the weekend so waited for a reply during the week. Everyday I have looked and he had logged in everyday at varying times during the day and not replied. Tonight I sent this email This was the reply I received I have replied stating that of the previous 3 sets of brake discs that have been on the car non have degraded in such a manner as these have even though the car has been used under the exact same conditions since I've owned it. I'm sorry for the long thread, I thought it best to cover the whole situation in one go. Would the faulty goods act come into these situation? Even though he has "offered" to skim them, currently there has been no mention of a cost, I'm not up on the legalities of warranties and where I stand on making a claim as the car currently would not pass an MOT with the brakes in this condition so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Hi all, I would've preferred to have created a informal first thread but alas I need advice and would appreciate your help. At some point last week, a set of spare alloy wheels were stolen from my garage. I have a spare set as the wheels I have on my car are discontinued and are getting rare. Once I found out they had been stolen I called the Police and reported it, gaining a crime number in the process. According to our insurance broker, everything kept in the garage is covered as part of our "Executive Cover" House Insurance with Sterling Insurance and all we would need to make the claim was the Policy number and Crime number. So, with that info I made the call, I was asked why I hadn't claimed on my car insurance. I explained that the wheels were a spare set and not fitted to the vehicle, nor were they stored in the vehicle at the time of the theft so I didn't see why I have to claim on my car insurance. After some brief time of listening to "errrm"s and "hmmm"s I was to told that vehicles and motoring accessories are not covered. Where as I can understand the vehicles not been covered, I cannot see why anything stored in the garage is not covered within reason? The cover clearly states Home & contents including outbuildings. We have looked through the entire policy paperwork yet we cannot find anything specific relating to the exclusion of motoring related items not been covered.
