  1. Yeah, i know mistake on title paid the £260 and £95 fine in post. lesson learned
  2. Hi, hoping someone can advise. My car is not running at the moment and has been parked up my drive on SORN, I had to move it out last week to get access to my drive. So I parked the car outside my house and put the battery on charge. Was supposed to put it back on the drive at weekend but didn't and of course this morning a road tax van spots it and clamps it. I went out to explain, but they were having none of it. Clamped it and said it was being impounded unless i paid £260, or i could collect it from impound for £260 + £21 per day. I had to pay the £260 there and then. I know my fault, but just wanted to check a couple of things: 1) To insure the car and get its tax would be more than the £260 - so if I do nothing and lose the £260 is that the end of the matter? I have now moved the car onto the drive again (and confirmed it is still sorn) 2) as the car had no insurance will the police become involved and fine me through the post? Any help appreciated

  5. Ok - here's a quick go at my reply. ---------------- Dear …... Thank you for your letter dated 17th April 2012, with regards to reference number: 00000000000000 There appears to be an error on my self assessment return that I was unaware of, I believe adding my employers details would suffice and you would asses my return along whilst taking into account my P14 and calculate my tax accordingly. This was by no mean an attempt to evade any tax as you can see from my return I have added my employers details, but did not have my accurate self employed earnings to hand when completing my return. I hope this information is useful and If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me Kind regards ----------------- Not sure what else to put, but was going to add about paying any owed tax over the longest period possible - but it sounded waffling. Should I also mention that my last return has the same omission and should i log into the hmrc site and correct my last return? many thanks K
  6. Thanks for the replies. Yes gbarbm, i don't have an accountant - I did have one previously but they were expensive and when the business took a nosedive I have to stop using them. Checking back through my assessments and I believe I have made the same mistake on my last return too 2010/11 I will probably write explaining this mistake (that I believed they would see from my data and add the two together) Would it be ok if i put my letter up here first for people to check that it makes sense before I send it? Many thanks for your help K
  7. Hi, Hoping someone can help. I'm self employed since 2005 building websites etc. All above board declared everything. Due to business taking a dive in 2008 I had to get a part time job, whilst still being self employed, again all above board with the employer. I filed my self assessments on time Jan 31st by myself. Today I had a letter saying HMRC will be checking my year end 2010 tax return as i didn't declare my part time employed work, I looked through my tax returns filed and I have put some data in for them Like the employers name and p60 etc numbers in, but no income. I thought the HMRC systems would be tied in and this would be added together. I'm panicking to death now, but cant call them til Monday. Its says if the figures we have received from your payer are correct, the additional tax due will be £670.60 - which I don't have - barely living on the minimum as it is. Does anyone have any advice? on how I should handle this - i'm absolutely terrified
