  1. It turns out that the number belongs to a company called Kensington Mortgages based in Skipton, North Yorks. They were trying to get my husband to take out a secured loan with them as they offer finance to self employed people. I have to say that the person I spoke to was very well spoken and polite - still didn't take out a loan with them ! Hopefully they will never call again! Thanks every one for your suggestions as to who they might be
  2. He needs to go into the branch - they will try to fob him off! The bank i work for would say the same thing that if the credit was late then the charges should be claimed from the creditor. This is because they dont want to do the paperwork!!!! However RBS like all banks have the ability to remove charges as good will gestures, especially as it was an internal (made to an account within RBS banking system not for example HSBC)transfer that was missed. Sound like you need to corner a cusotmer service advisor in branch even the manager will do and ask them to review the account. The should be able to refund especally if this is the first time its happened. If not then formally ask for a refund in writing also requesting a copy of their complaints procedure, If they still insist on charging him then ask for a right of appropriation to stop them taking the charg out of benifits that are paid in to the acct whilst you make a complaint. Might also help to mention you if pushed will inform the FSA and banking ombadsman and drop a hint to a local news paper especially in light of recent trend to claim bank charges back! Good Luck with them, good luck to the man your trying to help as well! Alex
  3. Hi Sally, I dont work for RBS but I expect that all banks are the same in most ways! Why did the man you are helping get charged in the first place, was it due to returned DD or going over an agreed over draft? It make a difference what the charges were for! Alex
  4. Oh forgot to say that you can ask your bank to stop further DD being set up on your acct, they will put an indicator on your acct. If you bank with LTSB they can put a specific note on your acct to stop a compnay as long as you know the compnay name. things like ref number, ammount etc are alway use full as well!!
  5. Just a quick add on.......!General DD info. The system that banks use is called AUDDIS (automated Direct debit instruction system) Its a bit like old fashioned Telex cross with email. most large companies and business' are members of AUDDIS, which allows a DD to be set up without a seperate signed mandate. Its usually used when you set up a DD paymnet over the phone or internet eg car insurance. All that happens is you acct number and sort code and account name plus recipient companies bank details get sent to you r bank who then process on to your acct. This is then avaiable to view on your acct if you use inernet banking. The information about frequency, acct numbers etc is given the first time they come and debit you. A new DD cannot be claimed on for 14 days once it has been registered and active. As this allows you to return or cancell what ever it was you brought etc.., The DD is an agreement between you and the compnay not the bank. Therfore the bank litteraly becomes a processing facility it will not have been given T&C or your agreement with the company, your bank do not recieve any more information than that. As it is your responsiblilty to monitor your acct. If you cancell a DD but are still owing or using what ever it was that required the DD in the first place the compnay will probably set it up again unless they have received either a verbal or written request to stop debiting and stopped supplying you with what ever it was. If funds are debited after this then you can claim them back under an indemnity claim through your bank and they will give you a conditional refund on the basis that your bank are able to claim the funds back from the company. This is part of the DD garuntee. Use a standing order its alot easier for you to monitor and cancell! Hope this is of use:)
  6. is this the first time you have had a returned item charge? If it is they will probably refund it to you either before its due to debit or they will refund it to you with a warning that they will not refund any further charges in the next 12 months, as a good will refund. If you have had several charges they may refuse and pass you over to customer support unit who have wider powers of refund. In the first instance I would either phone or got to local branch. If you don't get any joy then write as suggested above. FYI they have changed their charges strucure as from 1st Nov 2007. Hope this might help!
  7. Hi I have received several calls from 0870 6013250 in the last several days. They phone when I'm not in and if i dial it a recoreded message just states that one of our consultants and will be called again in due course. Tried to Google number but nothing and its really bugging me!!!!Any one know who they are? Thanks
  8. If you bank with LLoyds tsb they will honnor the right of appropriation once. If you request ongoing or a second RoA they will close your account as they cannot (or will not) do this.
