  1. In your case, its a matter of providing proof. You should really argue that the goods are not of satisfactory quality in terms of durability. It shoudl last longer than what you have had it for under normal usage. As for SoGA, it merely legislates what is mostky provided by civil law - he who accuses must prove. the "new" pat does away with that for a bit, but provides less in terms of rememdy.
  2. Well, there are three days left for their alloted timescale to respond, so I will wait until then. Thanks all.
  3. Its a medical condition that does not affect health with treatment - I don't really want to say more than that. Thanks.
  4. Thanks Bookie. The reason I'm asking is because I've checked some other properties and there is a 3 bed house for only £5 a week more than I'm paying.
  5. Are there any specialist collectors of DVDs and general film memorabilia (mostly sci fi). Flatmate was an avid film buff but now wants rid. There are about 4000 DVDs, most in good condition, as well as posters, masks, ornaments, box sets (limited edition ones). Don't want to sell on ebay as too much hassle and I can't get my head round the fees, and don't want to go to a second hand store due to pathetically low prices.
  6. Put a complaint in to the Housing about, well, everything, including the attitude of a member of staff. Alas, the staff member I complained about is the very person who responded, which I think is unfair, and he didn't even address any of the problems I raised.
  7. Sorry if this sounds daft, but what happens if you are diagnosed with a condition that classifies you as protected under the Disability Discrimination Act but your health / day to day activities are not actually affected? Do you need to register as being disabled? Is there any help that comes along with it or is it only if the disability affect you in some way? This isn't for me, btw, it's for a friend.

    Graduate loans

Having received a job offer (not in writing until CRB check and references have cleared), I really need to get a loan to buy a car (it's an essential car user position). I've gone to my bank (Abbey) to ask about student loans, and after 2 hours of flaffing about with conflicting advice, I was finally told that I need to be in the job before I can apply. Basically, I need the loan (about £3-4k) ASAP, but I need the payments to start in a couple of months time (after I get my first pay), which I thought was the whole point of a graduate loan. My overdraft (£2000) is maxed out and ideally I do not want the hassle of switching banks, but will do if I must. Finance is not really suitable, as I will be using part of the loan to pay for insurance as well.
  9. Is there any way to determine how much rent one should pay for a property rented by a housing association? I think £305/month for a 2 bed masionette that is falling apart is a tad too much, especially given the area (in a sink estate) and the extremely small garden. I want to be able to see whether the amount is reasonable or not and if possible to challenge it.
  10. Hello all, I'm back again for a short time. Firstly, apologies for the drama queenish exit. It's just that so much has gone wrong over the past few months that I'm having difficulty coping with the most basic things. I don't want to go into detail about what's wrong but I have seen the number of responses to my last thread and thanks to all for your kindness. There are a few specific areas I need some quick advice on so I'll post in the relevant areas. In terms of my job, well I got my dream job, subject to refs and CRB check. It does, alas, mean that I will hardly have any time to post on here due to time and other reasons, so the next week or so may be the last of me on here. I'll try and make the most of it.
  11. I'm not going to be on these forums for a while - if ever. I've recently had some bad news and it has, in short, completely f***ed me up. Thanks to everyone for their time and kindness, and good luck to CAG for the future. Will miss you.
  12. I've_more_ads_than_sense.com? Sorry, but the days of earning money off the internet (legitimately) are numbered for those not already established or truly inspirational. Prize draws, competitions, surveys, pyramid schemes, etc. I spit at them. I deliberately avoid links on sites that make money for the owner (unless it's a charitable cause). You won't make any money off me!
  13. Oh FFS. I'm sick and tired of repeating myself about this subject (and I refer to the posts by Buzby, Turtle and Forest). I read a statement during my research for my dissertation, which went: "Consumer education is largely a wasted effort" I'm beginning to truly believe it. And it faults do not lie with consumers or traders - it's the whole damned bloody system. And trying to explain that, as I have attempted once on this forum to much admonishment, is not a good idea on a forum. I despair.
  14. Weird. In Manchester city center (Picadilly Gardens) there is a water fountain. The other day, people were frolicking in the water - some fully clothed (office workers etc trying to cool down). Yet today, it was raining a bit. And what happened? Nearly everyone ran for cover. Err.....
  15. I remember my uncle once went dead white because his numbers come up. His girlfriend also went white because she put the lottery numbers on... and decided to use different numbers as the usual ones never won anything. My uncle, on finding out, stood up with his pint, poured it on his girlfriends head and walked out. I've never seen him since. or his girlfriend:eek:
  16. amajor problem here is that when the CCA was written (and redrafted), the distance selling regs and so on, noone gave a thought to these third/4th parties like ebay, paypl etc. It has created a bit of a kerfuffle that will need the courts to sort out. I'm going to speak to a couple of friends in the know and get their opinion. May be a few days though.
  17. Leave it! Says it all really.
  18. you can ask for the overall price to be reduced. If that is not suitable, it will be a case of putting up or going elsewhere. I appreciate what you say about getting the right one and time, but you must ask yourself whether you want o continue doing business with these people.
  19. PS - I've got a 5p coin with someone's head on it. £40 starting bid on ebay. www.Imacompleteidiotandwillfallforanything.nut.ters
  20. Which bloody 20p is it? I've narrowed the reports to three, all conflicting. I'm either sitting on £800, £50 or 20p. This is driving me nuts
  21. Has any one else noticed the picture on their TV changing. Just watching tennis (well, my flatmate is) via Virgin and the picture was "normal". Then there was a slight flicker and all of the sudden the picture looks as if it is in hi def. I've seen hi def in shops and to be honest, I'm no impressed with it, but i know what it looks like The TV itself is not Hi def (at least it doesn't have the logo - its about 6 years old) and I have noticed this happening numerous times on different channels in the past. Anyone know what's going on? Just interested really.
  22. 3 pints decent beer 4 whiskeys (plus generous amount of coke) 1/2 bottle white wine (13%) with dinner 3 brandies 1 black russian. 1 fan on full blast next to bed Nah, I'm gonna sleep tonight! Aww Bookie - whassup?
