  1. Hi, first time poster... We have a Dualit Kettle which has been replaced 4 times in 4 years due to various faults. After the second failure we asked for money back but were given a replacement instead. Every kettle has leaked from various places, around the spout on the latest one which means there is boiling water going everywhere. The kettle has been meticulously looked after, descaled regularly but today leaked so badly that it tripped the fuse box. We have written to Dualit about this on several occasions, they take ages to respond (weeks), and every time offer a discount on a new one. We dont want a replacement, we'd like our money back. I'd expect a £75 kettle to last more than a year or two (the longest one has not leaked for is less that 9 months). From reviews on sites we are not alone, 29 complaints on Amazon, 20+ on review centre all with leaks or burned out elements. Clearly there is a design or manufacturing issue here. Can someone advise what our options are? Thanks
  2. The readings were definitely taken and given to EDF when we closed the account - on the final bill it is "actual" rather than estimated and we also received a rebate. The worrying thing is that something is wrong somewhere, I am not technical enough to know where though. We are in the same house, nothing added equipment wise and yet according to Npower our usage has almost trebled.
  3. Having been a reasonably happy EDF customer on a dual fuel tariff since I moved into my home about 6 years ago, last year I made the mistake of being collared on the doorstep by an NPower salesman who guaranteed his tariffs could beat what I was paying. It really wasn't a convenient time (gone 9pm) with dinner getting cold I stupidly signed up for gas and electric rather than slinging him off my doorstep. Scroll to April of this year where I received a letter from Npower telling me that I was nearly £300 in credit across gas and electric - brilliant, only to receive a bill the next day for electric putting me £700 in arrears despite paying by DD. My old EDF combined DD was £90 a month so set up same for Npower only to find that my usage according to Npower has trebled. I have queried the bill with Npower who have basically said "you have used the units - tough", I totted up the units which appear to have been averaging 33+ a day, and have taken daily readings for almost 2 months where out highest usage (including having an aircon unit on) was barely 13. They tell me their meters are accurate but something is wrong somewhere, especially as nothing is left on standby, low energy bulbs etc They have done a meter check and say no problem found, so I am at a loss what to do given that my direct debit has now gone to over £300 a month from £48 to catch up. I have 6 years of EDF bills and in that time NEVER spent over £50 a month on electricity, nothing has changed at the house - 2 people, no kids, no jacuzzi - nothing. I have spoken to their energy saving team and ran through what we are running and even they were at a loss. Modern 3 bed house. They are dragging their feet and "still looking into this" some 4 months later, in the interim I am struggling. Does anyone have any tips or can tell me what avenues are open to me? Given the 6 years track record with EDF and the fact I got a £300 rebate when I left would indicate to NPower that there is an issue somewhere but as they are getting their money they arent in a hurry to resolve it.
  4. Hope this is in the right forum? Bear with me, I hope this makes sense? I have 2 MBNA CC's (one branded as Virgin). When I signed up the rates were a reasonable 13.9% apr however over time the rates on the MBNA card have crept up until about a month ago I received a letter raising them from 21.9% to 34.9% - it also gave me a choice of freezing the card at the lower rate and closing it when paid off, or accept the new rate. I don't have a huge amount on the card (about £2K) luckily so froze it. Oddly enough, about a week or two before this happened I received an offer from Virgin for a balance transfer, and also a £2K limit increase, although I dont use the card much - £2-300 on it. Didnt take them up on the transfers and dont use the card as I am running it down. I therefore rang MBNA to ask why I had been singled out and was told it was a general review and there could be many reasons. Asking specifically why they refused to tell me - a choice of market conditions (which would affect all clients), interest rates - the same, or my credit score. Here I admit I am not squeeky clean having a huge amount on Credit a few years back and being late on occasion (never missed), but now pay all loans, CC's etc by DD and for well over 18 months haven't been late, never ever missed a payment and recently paid off a £17K car loan a year early, so in reality my rating is probably better than it has been for years, so can't see any justification for the rises. Told this to MBNA and also that I had been given an increased limit on my Virgin card, my rates were unchanged etc only to receive a letter 3 days later raising the rates from 16.9% to 24.9% on the Virgin card. I can't see any justification and think they are randomly picking accounts for this treatment. Increasing my credit limit and inviting more debt in transfers clearly arent the actions of a bank worried about my credit worthiness so think they are trying it on. I have complained to MBNA to no avail, being told they wont tell me why. Have also written to FOS but have been fobbed off with "its their right to make commercial decisions", all against the backdrop of my close family and friends not being affected by any MBNA rises (in fact my pensioner father has had his rate dropped when he went to leave them). From the same information on my credit file they have raised the limit on one card, raised the interest rates on the other, then when I complained raised the interest rate on the virgin one. Not sure where to turn now, the FOS won't do anything by the looks of it, MBNA won't divulge reasons why and whilst I want to transfer the balances to another lender or pay the cards off am not in a position to do either at the moment. Thoughts?
  5. I am currently in dispute with BT over a "rolling" 12 month contract which I cancelled after 18 or so months. I am fighting BT on the basis that they have a clause which automatically renews the contract for a further 12 months unless you stop them - being honest I cant remember signing anything although may have done at some point. The OFT has stated that these contracts are unfair so I don't want to pay the additional £80+ that they suddenly came up with 6 months after I left. My gripe however is that I am being chased by a BT appointed collection agency - Moorcroft who somehow have been given my ex directory number. I requested to know from Moorcroft how they came by the number and it transpires BT gave it to them. Is this lawful? Have I got grounds for a complaint?
