Hi, Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to all the contributors on this site. Excellent information! I sent my SAR 23rd January 2007 and received statements going back to December 1999 on 1st March 2007. I have calculated all the charges they have made since March 2001 and the total is £1753.00 which I will be attempting to claim back. I am not sure if I should press for interest on the amount though. The reason is that the account with them is not in use and has a debt of £7000 which I am paying off monthly and they agreed to stop interest charges. I am worried if I try and claim back interest they will start up the interest again making it harder for me to pay the debt off. I am also worried that if I were successfull and they removed the £1753 from the amount owing they may be nasty and demand the full amount back immediately as I do not have £5000 to give them and I certainly cannot afford them to start up interest on the account again. Thanks Skintandfedup

Hello all, I got myself into debt a couple of years ago when I was with the gnatwest bank. They loaded up the charges at £35 a shot with unpaid items each time I went a penny overdrawn. It all come to a head when I was told by local consumer affairs to get my salary paid into another account and inform the bank of this and to enter into negotiation with them. I did this and was hit for many £35 charges due to unpaid stuff and I think I owe about £20,000 in total which includes personal loans and overdraft. I now pay a very much reduced amount per month to pay them back. If I claim back these unfair charges is it possible that they will pay back the unfair charges (I have 3 years statements which say it is around £500) which will reduce the current debt to £19,500 and then close the account on me and demand or take me to court to get the rest back? Do I just keep on paying each month so this goes away or do I fight? Thanks
