  1. Hello all.

I've posted a couple of things on other threads but I'm starting my official story here!

Hands up - I'm crap at managing money, but always managed to get through months without defaulting or missing payments. Heavy use of overdraft though and ran over my Nationwide limit often. About 4 months ago, they held me to my limit and bounced every 11 direct debits. Horrendous bank charges of almost £400 have meant I'm now in serious financial difficulties. I've missed payments on mortgages, personal loans and credit cards. The deficit has snowballed and I'm now paying huge charges every month.

I was unaware of being able to claim back charges and called the bank to ask them for a bit of understanding really. A very lovely person was very sympathetic, raised my hopes by saying that I could apply to get some charges waived or at least reduced, and raised my overdraft limit. Still a lot less than what it had been.

They then lost the query - and after some phone calls I got a letter yesterday which is the standard letter everyone else seems to have got saying their charges are open and transparent, blahblah and no they won't be refunding.

I'd held off doing anything else as I didn't want to jeopardise the few hundred pounds I might have got - which would have been bloody useful in my current situation.

BUT LET BATTLE COMMENCE! Sending off the SAR tomorrow (registered mail - can't get to a PO today). I'll keep you all informed.

Wish I'd known about this site ages ago - it's been the support on here that's given me the courage to do this.

  2. Not if, Fuzzgun - when!!!!

    ;)

Does anyone know the answer to this one -

I have 5 accounts with nationwide

    2 flex accounts

    1 joint flex account

    1 e-savings

    1 ISA

If/when I win my case with the one account with charges, if they close this account, will they close all my other accounts too???

    Thanks

  3. Yep - all sounds familiar.

I missed one direct debit payment (due to horrendous bank charges that month that I didn't expect) and was charged £25. 5 days later I got another £25. Called to query the charges and was told one was for late payment and one was for notification of late payment. And yes - I got the phone call before 9am on a Sunday...

Anyone claimed back from them successfully? I've now paid the £50 charge and pursuing Nationwide for a lot more. Capital are so horrible to deal with I don't want any more interaction with them than necessary. At least Nationwide are courteous

  4. Well - called them today to find out what was happening re the two months refund THEY suggested I request.....they can't trace it but patronising woman on the phone told me I had another £268.44 charges to come out this month. All this is because of a horrendous month three months ago where £400 of charges took me over my limit.

Was in two minds about pursuing the lot but now I'm sure. Did a quick count of bank charges over the last year and they come to £1228.

If I hadn't found this site (via Martin's Moneysavingexpert.com, I'd really be in the depths of despair now...)

  5. Hello

Found this site through Moneysavingexpert.com. Finances in a terrible mess and I'd eventually worked out a plan to get debt freee.

Plan would have worked except I was being hammered with bank charges. Didn't know about all this claiming badk going on, and two months ago requested that Nationwide reduce my bank charges for one month (which was about £200) Still waiting on an answer two months later.....last month my bank charges were £400

Now seriously thinking of reclaiming whole lot...which will amount to a fair sum. Only worry is that they might close my account - how hard is it to open a new account with a not very good credit rating?
