  1. If I try to be neutral , I can tottaly understand why L&G did what they did. But this was not deliberate. I just went with what was coming as the default content value at the time of web application and did not take enought time to read the fine print . Also you never think it can happen to you ..till the time it does. I honestly see no reason why I would save the extra 20 £ per month when I was already paying my life ins , critical and home ammounting to 70 £ . Just our sheer bad luck and stupidity of not reading the print .. Atleast L&G should have paid what was covered by policy or atleast the electronics for which I provided the receipts.
  2. The lady for L&G said they will cancel the policy from inception..
  3. L&G called and have canceled the insurance. Said it was way under insured. Not sure what options I have. Can I get a new home insurance.. ?
  4. Thanks .. Do I need a personal loss adjustor.. Do the insurance companies like working with them ?
  5. Thanks this helps.. I have been called twice already by the underwriter - to understand why was there under insurance.. was I hiding anything .. Not sure how much I can read into it . They said they will get back to me by end of day today with the decision.. Not sure what decision are they talking about ( policy being valid or not ) .. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  6. Thanks. Yes a laptop , Ipad and camera was taken.. I guess all that will come under high risk item.
  7. I agree there is no point lying .. Rather be honest in what went wrong and see how the company can help. Lesson learned - dont go by the default of contents that comes up .. do a proper assessment . This was through legal and general website ..
  8. Okay the policy says - If the contents are damaged as result of any of the clauses insured under this policy : - 1. We will at our option - Replace as new - Pay the cost tu us of replacing as new - repair or - pay the cost to us to repair any items of contents ( except for clothing more than two years old ) 2. We will make a deduction for wear and tear from the cost to us of replacement or repair if clothing more than two year old is stolen or damaged. Does this help..
  9. Thank you every one.. Never thought I will get so much help . I also wanted to know.. in the evaluation of what is remained in house ( sent by Insurance Co Adjustor ) - Should the value of the furniture be at the value we bought or depreciated or what it will cost us to get a new one. For example - Furniture in sitting room ( 3 + 2 Sofa Set ) was bought for 750£ 5 years back so depreciated will be around 200£ ( hope so ) .. So should my assessment of furniture be 700£ or 200£ or what it will cost me to buy a new one today . Hope I dint confuse ...
  10. yes that right . We lost Items worth 60 K but the policy was only for 40 K . and now the claim adjustor has sent me a value of good at home ( not stolen ) at 35 K. Sorry..I could be confusing everyone.
  11. aah ok..Thanks .. Any references of a good loss adjustor which I can involve ? or a link for professional directory ..
  12. What does CF mean ? This is the note from adjustor I also attach an appropriate value at risk form that I have collated on the basis of my initial observations at the time of my visit and would appreciate your input to confirm the figures are correct or if any ammendments need to be made. I would ask you to sign and return the form accordingly as this needs to be submitted to Insurers for their consideration. So will I get only 5 K back ..
  13. Thanks .. so If I go with that logic .. correct me if I am wrong Content insurance in policy - 40 K House Loss - 60 K Total Content or value at home - 100K Insurance is only 40 % of the total value at home - so will they be looking at paying out only 40 % of 60 K .
  14. Thanks all. The value of the loss is around 60 K .. I know its more than what the content value was. But seeing the adjusters assessment of what is left which is 35 K .. and he is counting things like carpeting , toiletries.. ... I guess I will need my own loss adjustor to manage him and the insurance company .
  15. Sorry for the confusion and not reading what I was exactly typing . The policy has a content insurance of 40 K out of which 15 K is on high value items ( no sinle item more that 2500 ) . So its all part of 40 K. I think what the adjustor is trying to do is now sending me a spreadsheet of possible value of contents at home , which he has derived at 35 K and will then end up saying you are only due 5 K as that is what if left . Sorry if I am going off topic.
  16. Whats the advice on getting personal loss adjustor.. is it helpful and how much will it cost me . confused as never done this before.
  17. Thanks.. how do they work .. and where can I find them.. hardly any links on google.
  18. Hi , I am new to the forum and really confused on how the insurance claim process work. We were out 1 day in late dec and when we came back we found the house broken in and completely cleared out of most moveable valuables. I informed the police immediately and they came to asses the situation. This was followed by a forensic person but no prints could be gathered. The police was able to identify the back door as the entry point due to scratches on the door near the lever . The burglars seems to have used 1 / 2 pointed devices to move the door from the hinges and free it up. I called my insurance company on the next working day and they acted swift in getting a loss adjustor. The person who visited us very professional and patient with us . We shared with him a list of items which we think had been taken away . To summaries we had electronics worth 3000 & ,Cash and jewelry @ 50000 taken away from home. I have provided most of the receipts for electronic items and in process to collect documents for the jewelery. Content Insurance in current policy is for 40000 £ and high valuables at 15000 £ .. Current - 1. I got a call from the insurer underwriter who asked me why did I under insure the house if I had such high ammount jewellry at home. My response to her was we had just moved home and were in process of looking for a safe box or a secure access storage. She asked for my job and annual salary and said if we under insured ourselves it can be considered fraund and the whole claim can be declined. What does this mean ? 2. The loss adjustor has now sent me a spreadhseet showing costs of stuff in the house from flooring to clothes to electronics.. what does this mean ? I am really worried about what is happening . Any help here.
