  1. My late faither in law died owing us several thousands of pounds - He had cancer, we paid for some of his surgeries and sent him and his wife money to live on as they were broke. They had been trying to sell their villa over there to pay off the massive debts they had incurred, they owed every body money. To cut a long story short my mother in law finally sold the villa. We assumed we would be paid the money we lent them. The problem now is that she is denying the debt. We have bank statements to prove we paid them the money. She is saying it was gifts. We employed a solicitor in this country to act for us, but he has been less than helpfull. She does not attend her solicitors appointments and is completely ignoring the situation. Can we take court action against her in this country or does it have to be done in spain? Any advice would be greatly received.
  2. Hi Gbarbm Just to keep you updated and to pick your brain some more. Posted my letter 5 March, recorded delivery, it arrived safely, but i have heard nothing yet. Not even an acknowledgment. Is this normal? Is there a phone number I can call to see if there is any progress? Regards MrsB
  3. Thanks Gbarbm I have composed my letter to Mr Harra and will post it tommorow. To be honest I was a little unsure of which route to take, I would like to complain as I think a year to sort this out is ridiculous, but on the other hand I dont want to upset people and not get the outcome I want/deserve. I will keep you posted. Regards MrsB
  4. Hi. July 2010 I received a letter from HMRC saying I had underpaid tax to the tune of nearly £2000 due to my tax code being wrong. After several telephone calls i was advised to write in explaining the situation. I wrote back to them February 2011 telling them that I had provided my P45 to employers and assumed everything was in order. My wage slips never showed my tax code and my wages went up steadily. It turns out that my employer changed my tax code. After getting no reply in writing from the tax office and several further telephone calls it seems i had nowhere to go and paid the bill, I had letters saying that if i did not pay interest would be charged. In November 2011 I received a letter from HMRC saying that they think that my employer was responsible for the error and would persue them for the tax and reimburse me. I need do nothing else. December came and went i heard nothing, i telephoned repeatedly, and was told different stories, i would be sent a cheque, its being sorted etc. STill nothing. End of January this year someone phoned me and said that it was being dealt with, they could not give a time scale. I have called againg today for an update, still no joy. No one will put me through to someone who could help me. I am at a loss. What can I do? APOLOGIES FOR THE LENGTH.
