  1. Sounds like you got the same letter I did. I've just started a thread about it but I must have missed your latest update. In my case it was over £3k they're going to refund! Anyone know any internal reviewers at Amex? I owe them a pint.
  2. Hi, This is my first post on here after having lurked and learned for a few months. I have 2 Amex credit cards with a total outstanding balance of approx. £6K. I work freelance and often get paid late, which means my credit cards get paid late as well. In April I must have paid Amex late one time too many as they cancelled my cards and passed the accounts to AIC. Using the advice on here, I sent them CCA requests for both cards. One came back as the standard dodgy application form, the other one they actually admitted they had no agreement on file. I used this info to dispute the accounts with AIC and got passed to Newmans. As soon as I let them know the state of the CCA requests they dropped me and I’m now back to being hassled by AIC. So far, so normal. Until today when I received a couple of letters which included this paragraph: “During a recent internal review, it came to our attention that you were not sent a separate written notice of missed payments on your account at the time when you missed two consecutive payments.” Blah, blah, blah etc. The upside is that they are refunding **all** interest and charges back to the date that they made this mistake. As it was 2009 it comes to over £3k in total. Which is nice! However, I’m a cynical little sod and I’m curious as to what the catch is. Why would they perform an unsolicited review of my accounts and admit to such a mistake? Especially when it means writing off half of the alleged debt. Are they getting ready for a court battle and making sure everything is correct? Or have they realised they don’t have a leg to stand on and this is some strange way of offering a discount, in the hope I’ll happily pay off the remainder? Or has there been a recent court case that they’ve lost and they’re pre-emptively dealing with any similar cases? Has anyone else received such letters and refunds? Should I push hard for a F&F settlement now, or get ready for the court summons to arrive? I’m confused! Cheers, Jacob. (not my real name!)
