  1. The OFT contacted me today about the complaint I raised regarding HFO - they have asked me to provide scanned copies of the letters I received and provide a formal 'witness statement'. Anything that puts these people out of business is just fine by me.
  2. Just as an update - things have gone very quiet from HFO despite my having no contact with them as per advice from the OFT. Oh and talking of the OFT guess who rang me today regarding my complaint to ask me to provide a formal witness statement about my experience and the letters I have received from HFO. It will be my pleasure to provide it and help put the boot into this bunch of (insert rude word here).
  3. Thanks! Is it worth me sending the SAR to Barclaycard just to get confirmation of the default - I assume if the last payment was May 2005 then it would have defaulted one month later when they didn't receive payment. I need this confirmation I suppose so that I have the confirmation of it being SB'd?
  4. Thank you - so I wait for more correspondence from them and then send them the letter saying "sod off, the debt is statute barred"? Sorry just trying to get it clear in my mind. BTW I did ring consumer direct to log a complaint about HFO today
  5. I will get Barclaycard to confirm to me in writing that the last payment was May 2005 which proves the statute bar. I am still concerned that HFO are going to harrass me and threaten litigation. What is the best way to get them to push off?
  6. Haven't seen it in a good few years (probably since getting a mortgage back in 2004) but if Barclaycard closed my account in November 2005 and sold the debt in 2007 then presumably it was registered somewhere then. Unless HFO registered it much later... erk
  7. Thank you so much guys - I was hoping I was over the 6 years. Two more things though a) how do I make HFO go away? I'm guessing they aren't going to stop at just this letter, should I respond to them in any way? b) what do I do about the permanent blot on my credit record? Is there anything I can do?
  8. Hi all - I have been reading some really fantastic advice for those affected by the hideous HFO services and I need to call on some advice for myself please I received a letter this morning from HFO claiming that I owe money to them from a debt sold on by Barclaycard - £961.70 to be exact including their level of 12% interest. This is the first time that I have ever heard about them despite their claim that I have "already been informed" of the sale of my account to HFO. I had a Barclays account back when I was a student and I know I haven't used it in years, to check exactly what was going on I called Barclaycard who confirmed that they sold the debt on in 2007. They say that I last made a payment on the card of £8 back on 3rd May 2005. They claim the account then defaulted and was closed in November 2005. I wasn't using the card regularly back then and moved house in November 2004, I never changed the address for some reason although I had a mail redirect in place for 12 months after moving so I would still have gotten any letters sent to me. It's been so long now that I can't remember what the truth is, I can't even defend myself really as I don't know what if anything I actually did owe and what I paid back. I know I made a concerted effort at this time to pay off and close my old student accounts. What should I do now Barclaycard say they cannot deal with me as I am no longer their 'customer' - nice, but I refuse to have any dealings with HFO except by letter. I don't know if they have my telephone number but I am concerned that the address on the letter is my current address but using my maiden name which I haven't used in any way for over a decade now, also when I spoke to Barclays the address on their files was my previous address which I left in 2004 so somehow HFO have managed to 'follow' me. I am confused as to whether the debt should be statute barred? When would this apply Would it be when the last payment was made or when they closed my account? Any help very much appreciated
