  1. Well done for your concise and brilliant expose of one more case it appears of maladministration. As you point out the trouble started it appears with the confusion by the DWP about the Special Support Grant. Since you were receiving the IS disability premium you were it seems eligible for the Special Support Grant. Following on from that the Special Support Grant according to A Guide to Financial Support for Higher Education Students,2008, p.13 “If you claim income-related benefits, the Special Support Grant will not be taken into account by Jobcentre Plus or your local authority’s Housing Benefit section when working out your income.” And “ You may be eligible to receive a Special Support Grant instead of a Maintenance Grant if you: “have a disability, and qualify for the disability premium or severe disability premium (Government guide, A Guide to Financial Support for Higher Education Students,Aim Higher,2008, p.13) ____________ The Special Support Grant is still available in 2012, and similarly points out: Special Support Grant If you get or qualify for Income Support or Housing Benefit you may get the Special Support Grant instead of the Maintenance Grant. The amount you can get through the Special Support Grant is the same as that available through the Maintenance Grant but it won’t reduce how much you get for your Maintenance Loan. You are likely to qualify for the Special Support Grant if: you’re a single parent your partner is also a student you have certain disabilities The Special Support Grant doesn’t count as income when working out if you’re entitled to income-related benefits or tax credits (Direct Gov site, accessed 16/05/2012) So it appears that there were at least 2official errors: (1) that for some reason the SSG was inadvertently changed to Maintenance Grant ; and (2) DWP failed to recognise this fact--putting you in the same category as students in general who aren't eligible for income related benefits such as IS. I know that this is only a little piece of the puzzle, but I hope it might help as in the question from Mikey Dabodee above. It looks like the errors will possibly need to be corrected with the SLC. Sometimes requesting a SAR (Subject Access Request) I have found a very useful exercise in getting to basics of where a public authority got things wrong (in this case the Student Finance/SLC and the Decision Maker at the JCP). Good luck with all the good work you are doing for yourself and on behalf of others who have mental health issues and may not have the energy to defend themselves. Hey, when you consider what you've been through, getting a 2.2 really isn't so bad. Take care.

    MrZ v HSBC

I have been with HSBC for over 20+ years and have it appears been charged for PPI for approximately 11 years and I was not aware of what that represented as so many other people have stated. I sent a SAR to HSBC Bank plc, UK Data Protection Compliance, Griffin House, 2-01, 41 silver Street Head, Sheffield S1 3GG for ALL information relating to bank accounts, personal loan, and PPI. I received a letter back saying that HSBC UK Data Protection Compliance "cannot provide details of your personal loan insurance" and that I needed to write to HSBC General Insurance Services (UK) Limited, 120 Redcliff Quay, Redcliff Street, Bristol BS1 6HU with another 10 Pounds from the first SAR to HSBC BAnk plc, Griffin House. Additionally, I was advised that if wanted 'card repayment protection insurance' I would have to write to HSBC General Insurance Services (UK) Limited, Card Service Delivery, POBox 6001, Coventry, CV3 9FP AND enclose another 10 Pounds! In both cases the Assistant Manager, Data Privacy Compliance, states that both addresses for HSBC General Insurance Services (UK) Limited are "separate legal entitit[ies] to HSBC Bank plc". I would be grateful to find out if other HSBC customers are having the wild goose chase in search of their legitimate right under the Data Protection Act 1998?
