Hi, I was wondering if this would help me. I recieved a fine for driving in a bus lane. I ignored it, then when the fine went up I rung up Barking council to pay on there automated line. I thought the payment had gone through. I have recived no further correspondence in 12 months so rightly persumed the fine had been paid. However today my car was clamped because this payment had NOT been made. I rung my bank who confirmed this. So somewhere along the line the payment didnt process. I have now paid £760 to the clampers!!!!! What can I do to get this money back?? Surely that amount is excessive!!! Thanks

Hi, really need some advice ASAP!!! In March 2008, I recieved a ticket for driving by mistake in a bus lane in London. I recieved letters after not making payment immediately. Eventually once the payment had increased I called the Barking council and thought I had made payment on there automated payment line. Today, my car was clamped for non payment of this fine. I contacted my bank who said the payment was never made!!! So obviously the payment hadnt gone through. The clampers have made me pay £760 to get the car unclamped. Even thought they didnt take the car away!!! The original fine had increased to £180!!! This seems an excessive amount to pay for such a small fine!!! I really believed the payment had gone through as I have recieved no further correspondence to say it hadnt!!! Is there anything I can do to claim this money back?? I did make the payment via my Credit Card in the hope that I could claim it back? Advice would be appreciated as I realy CANNOT afford to pay this amount!! Thanks
