  1. Afternoon caggers Bought jeans from Asos on my Vanquis credit card back in April. Cancelled the card and closed the account in August. A few weeks ago I returned the jeans to Asos, who accepted they were faulty and issued a refund to the Vanquis credit card. Vanquis have no record of the refund. Asos say they need proof the account has been closed from Vanquis in order to refund by another method. The 'proof' arrived today. The letter stating I closed the account has todays date on it, which is no good to Asos. I have the final statement too. This makes no mention of the account being closed. Argghhhh! Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?
  2. Hi Caggers, Hoping for some good advice here. Long story cut short a family member will not stop contacting me, by both email and text despite me persistently telling them to stop. I suffer from some pretty serious mental health difficulties, and this is really messing me up. I would just change my number and email addresses, but the family member has already obtained my contact information from others so could easily do this again. I don't think it's an issue for the police as there has been nothing threatening in the communication, I just want it to stop. What can I do?
  3. Finally got an email back from Overstock last week. They sent a courier to pick up the earrings a few days ago and I got a refund today
  4. It was with my debit card through PayPal. There was a couple of quid in my PayPal account so those funds were used, then the remainder was paid by debit card. Would you launch a dispute through PayPal or take the chargeback route?
  5. Thanks for looking in Mrs E. I know that in a breach of contract the wronged party should be put back in the position they would have been in had the contract not gone ahead at all. In this instance if the buyer has to pay for return postage then the buyer ends up out of pocket, whilst the seller (who breached the contract) is the one who ends up back in the same position again.
  6. Who pays for return postage, buyer or seller? My thinking was that as it's a breach of contract the seller is responsible, so the buyers responsibility only goes as far as making the goods available for collection?
  7. Thanks Rebel, some useful links there. My main concern was that Overstock is a US site. And the timeframe, it has been almost 2 months since I received them.
  8. Hey Caggers, Ordered a pair of diamond earings a couple of months ago from Overstock for the girlfs birthday. We split up before her birthday so I never gave them to her. I took them to my local jeweler today to see if he'd buy them from me. He examined them for some time and said there wasn't a trace of diamond in them. Pretty peeved! Do I have any recourse? I've heard loads of people talk about overstock so I thought it was a safe site to use.
  9. Quick update - Have changed my name on Facebook so all my mates know now The Scottish Registrars office called to take payment from me for the amended birth certificate, so that should arrive shortly
  10. Thanks loopylil but the route I'm taking I shouldn't have need for a DP. The obstacles I have are the cost of changing the name on my passport, and the cost of registering the name change with the Register of Births and Deaths in Scotland. Even with a DP I'd still have to pay for both of these.
  11. Is there any way of getting any sort of financial assistance for this process? I get DLA for BPD, Dyspraxia and the accompanying depression so money is very tight. £55 to the Registrar in Scotland £77 to the passport people when I change the name on that This is going to be might expensive!
  12. Thanks HB I'll be sure to keep the thread updated. So far I've got a form in the post to the Register of Births, Deaths and marriages in Scotland. They said they'd send a new birth certificate within 3 weeks.
  13. Ok thanks CB. HoneyBee I don't know if I'm just being dumb but I can't find a link to click in your post? Just spoke to the local registrars office to my birthplace in bonny Scotland. It seems if I fill in a form for them and pay the fee they actually issue an ammended birth certificate with the name change recorded on it. Result
  14. I was indeed registered in Scotland, I'll make some phone calls tomorrow, this looks a much simpler route. Thanks CB
  15. Ah despite my username I am now living in England. Website for the passport service is confusing the hell out of me though....reads to me that they need to see a deed poll. Cant see any mention of an SD: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Howtochangethenameonyourpassport/DG_174166
  16. That's brilliant, thanks so much One last question...how do I go about getting it notarized?
  17. Thanks Ceberus, I'll try going the statutory declaration route. The wikipedia info is fairly limited, how do I go about drafting one?
  18. Afternoon Caggers I was wondering if anyone has any experience of changing their name by deed poll and can share any advice? Some googling returned a few companies who will provide documentation for a fairly small fee, but being on a low income I'm somewhat reluctant to use any of them without knowing anyone else who has. Do I need to use one of these companies? Any advice gratefully received
  19. I have thought about going to the police. Problem is that the only person who knows she's going to lend the money is my girlf, so it's going to be my girlf she's ****ed at if the police get involved. Jepordising their friendship isn't my decision to make, so if the police are going to get involved its got to be my girlf who does it. She really doesnt like the idea.
  20. I fear you've hit the nail on the head there. No chance of finding his facebook, my girlfs friend is the only one who knows and she's off in a mood now. Looking like she's going to learn a very expensive lesson.
  21. Thanks guys. She's not letting either me or my girlf go with her when she hands over the cash so no chance of filming. I thought about suggesting a contract Rebel, but as you say him being a foreign national complicates things. My gilf doesn't know exactly where he lives, and her friend is moody now and refusing to give out any more info so don't think I'm going to be able to go have a quiet word either.
  22. Hey Caggers, thought the best place for this was here. I'll try to be as brief as possible. My Gf's best friend has been seeing this guy for a few months. She's incredibly quiet and timid, and without going into detail has a history of being exploited. She's 18, but a particularly naive 18. She's perfect fodder for and a**hole to take advantage of. He's an American living in the UK, and regularly goes back to the US for a few weeks at a time. Thus far he's been proven to have lied about his age (he's 30 not 25), his job (Bomb maker for US army....TV/ Magazine critic?!) and his income (These have been substantive lies, not the sort of fibs a guy might tell a girl to impress her). He also lied about not having Facebook, and then made excuses as to why she can't add him. Alas she is infatuated with him and in complete denial. On Saturday she is going to be lending him the best part of £5000 so he can buy a car. This is almost all that remains of her inheritance from her late father, and was going to be used to pay for her uni fees in September. My girlf's tried to talk her out of it, but she's adamant about giving him this money. Is there anything my girlf can do? She's in bits worrying about her friend. Thanks for reading Caggers, hopefully someone can help.
