  1. Does this mean they can't legally charge people to park in the car parks they have their signs in?
  2. Ignore it even though I saw the sign and attempted to pay them via the phone line? I just checked my bank account and £1 was not debited from it.
  3. Hi, On New Years Eve I went to Birmingham and parked at a small shopping precinct. I was aware that the first hour of parking was free and that after that you would be charged (£1 per hour). A photo of your vehicle is taken when you first enter so that they can prove which cars have entered the car park. For any parking over the one hour, you have to call up a dedicated line on which you provide your debit card details, car registration details, and the amount you are paying for. This line is not manned and is automated. Before I was leaving I went up to the board which they have on display that provides details such as the number you need to call to make your payment. I stood there for a good few minutes with my son, calling them and going through the automated process just to pay £1. I still have proof that I made this call because it is on my call log list on my phone. This car park is monitored I'm assuming by Civil Enforcement Ltd since I received an 'enforcement notice' from them dated 9th Jan 2012 asking me to pay them £75 at a reduced rate. I was thinking of writing a letter to them to say that I had made my payment as required by the information board available at the car park and that I had a call log on my phone to prove it as well as the fact that if there was cctv footage available at the car park, they could see me standing by the board making the call. I then came across this site so thought I would request advice on here. I haven't yet checked my bank statement to see if £1 was paid to them but I am guessing it wasn't since they have sent a pcn number through asking for me to pay the fine. Actually, it is addressed to my wife who owns the vehicle and who was not with me on the day I went to Birmingham. One interesting thing to note is that my brother also travelled to Birmingham on the same day with me in my dad's vehicle. He made the payment in the same way I did. He actually got a message saying the payment had failed later in the day and then attempted to make it again. I'm guessing it worked the second time because he didn't mention anything about this again. What should I do? Write to them explaining that I had already made the payment with the information above? I will definitely not pay the fine as to my knowledge I made the call to pay for the extra hour of parking and to my knowledge completed what was required of me. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
  4. hold in there man. my wife wasn't so sure about me not paying ukpc either until i told her to just be quiet and leave it to me. ps it would be nice to get these buggers back!
  5. after a couple of quiet weeks i have received a 'FINAL WARNING' letter from graham white solicitors. here is some of the text... TAKE NOTICE that despite many attempts to obtain payment from you, you have chosen to withhold settlement of the amount stated above. We have already fulfilled all legal requirements in relation to commencing litigation. If you are in any doubt as to the seriousness of this situation you should seek independent legal advice, as the consequences of litigation can be far-reaching, such as: - Substantial legal costs and statutory interest being added to your debt - Your name being listed on the Register of Judgements affecting your chances of further credit in the future - Seizure of your assets by Bailiffs - An order to obtain information from judgement debtor It is your responsibility to repay this account to us immediately, and we put you on notice that we shall refer the matter in seven days. Please be assured this matter will not go away without solution or resolution. If you do not wish to incur the consequences of Court Action, you must pay the amount claimed immediately. If you cannot pay the full amount, or you have a valid defence to this claim, you should call this office without further delay. i actually received a call from them or roxburghe or whoever it might be a couple of days ago. i told them i have already contacted ukpc via a letter (which i haven't) and that i will not discuss this matter any further with them. i told them to go back to ukpc. i also told them i had seeked independent legal advice and that i was recording the call. the woman seemed to panic a little and told me i couldn't use the call in court as evidence because i didn't tell her i was recording at the beginning of the conversation. funnily enough, my previous debt to them of £142.25 doesn't seem to have been mentioned and in this latest letter sent to me today it is only £70! so is this definitely the last letter i will be receiving from them? or will i be issued with a final final letter first?
  6. i don't have a scanner but will type out the main content of the letter... you were written to by UK PARKING CONTROL LTD and their agent roxburghe requesting the settlement of a Parking Contravention Charge Notice. Due to the absence of payment, or a valid appeal, our client has instructed us to proceed to legal action to recover the amount due. therefore, it is a legal requirement to send a notice of INTENDED LITIGATION before legal proceedings are issued in the Country Court. This letter fulfils this requirement. then it goes on to the breakdown of costs i have incurred which total 142.25 gbp. they then go on to say how my chances of obtaining credit could be affected if any judgement was to be registered against me. here is the bit about bailiffs... in the event of a Judgement Order not being adhered to, we may instruct Bailiffs to attend at your address who are authorised to seize your goods for sale at public auction in the amount claimed plus all Statutory Interest. please contact us with your proposals for settlement within 7 days to avoid the possibility of this action.
  7. i've now received a letter from graham white solicitors with a 'notice of intended legal action'. apparently bailiffs may also pop round for a cup of tea and chat. am i almost at the end of the string of letters from ukpc and co? or do i still have some way to go?
  8. i didn't give them my phone number. i've never communicated with them in any way until they called me this morning...which i was surprised by. that's why i'm wondering if it's normal to receive a call from them too?!
  9. i received a notice on my car at my local tesco for parking across two bays (which i needed to in order to get our son in his car seat out of the back of the vehicle). this initial 'parking ticket' was followed up by a letter with a photo of my vehicle asking for a fine of £30 to be paid. i ignored the intial letter after stumbling across this forum. i then received a 'final reminder' notice from ukpc on 9th dec 2008 asking for £70 since the initial parking charge had not been paid. i then received a letter on 7th jan from 'roxburghe debt collectors' saying they were acting on behalf of ukpc. apparently if they don't hear from me they will pass the matter on to their solicitors, graham white who will review the case for potential legal action. this i also decided to ignore. about 30 mins ago i received a call, from, i think roxburghe, saying they had not received any payment or communication regarding their letter. i told them i am in dispute of the penalty notice and explained the circumstances above. i also told them i have already sent a letter to ukpc stating this (even though i haven't). they said they will go back to ukpc. now i'm not stressing out because i know they like to hassle people to make them panic in to paying their 'charge' but is it normal for them to call you at your home?
