  1. I still think it is a breach of the Data Protection Act, I would have thought some sharp legal mind would have challenged it by now.
  2. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet as I've not read every single post but I've written to the DVLA as follows: "Dear Sir/Madam, Recently I was at a McDonald’s in Livingston and was somewhat concerned to see this sign (photo attached) that states “We will contact the DVLA to obtain your details”, surely this contravenes the Data Protection Act? As you will be aware the Act states “The Data Protection Act is mandatory. ALL organisations that hold or process personal data MUST comply.” The Data Protection Act contains 8 Principles. These state that all data must be: - Processed fairly and lawfully - Obtained & used only for specified and lawful purposes - Adequate, relevant and not excessive - Accurate, and where necessary, kept up to date - Kept for no longer than necessary - Processed in accordance with the individuals rights (as defined) - Kept secure - Transferred only to countries that offer adequate data protection. With the above in mind can you explain to me how UKPC can obtain details regarding my vehicle from the DVLA? If they are in error with regard to the wording of their signage could you please confirm this." I certainly have not given permission to the DVLA to hand out my details and if they do so I believe that they are in breach of the Data Protection Act.
