Yes it is the job of the conveyancing solicitor to report discrepancies to the lender even though the solicitor is appointed by you and not the lender. I do not think you can take any legal action against the solicitor. The best you could do is to change your solicitor if you are not comfortable with the current one. All the best and hope things work out for you.

Firstly if you are having so much trouble with your conveying solicitor I would suggest that you change your conveyancing firm. A good conveyancing firm having a lot of experience in legal matters like these should be able to solve the problem with much delay. As for the keyfobs and gas meter, you might be able to take action against the seller, ask your conveyancing solicitors advice on this.
