  1. No the balance was not cleared in full the previous month. However I have also cleared some other cards off in full and they have not charged any interest this month
  2. I have just paid off a credit card balance in full before the due date. Checked the account online and the balance was showing as nil. Today I have received a statement with an interest amount shown added to the account after the entire balance had been cleared. I was under the impression if the full payment was received before the due date the account was cleared so I'm not sure what this interest relates to. Would be grateful for any advice.   4. In 2008 moved to UW. They did not accept the opening reading for one of the gas meters so the account was opened on a deemed reading. This meter has subsequently been read by their actual meter readers and myself but because their system does not accept the readings they have continued to estimate the bill. They then send out a letter stating there is a credit of over £4k on the gas account so they are going to reduce the direct debit to £5 (from £700). This is queried obviously. Their system finally accepts the meter reading and it transpires that the account is not £4k in credit but £7k in deficit. Then it gets worse. They have been estimating an electric meter on a night and day rate but it is a single rate meter. No one has ever given them two reading for this meter and it has been seen by their actual meter readers. The estimated usage has allowed over £6k deficit to build up. So after having paid over £12k Jan09-Nov09 for gas/electricity they require another £13k to bring the account up to date. To continue to estimate the readings (when actuals have been provided) enabling such a large deficit to build up is irresponsible in my opinion. As the direct debit was increasing I had no idea this situation was arising. I would like to move to another supplier but this can obviously not happen until the deficit has been cleared but as such a high amount it is not something I can do in one go.

Account opened in 2000 Action taken: 30 Jan 09:First letter to MBNA sent 05 Feb 09:Received an standard 'we are investigating your complaint' letter 20 Feb 09:Followed by a negative response from MBNA advising if unsatisfied could take up with FOS with the paragraph re outside of the time-limits. 25 Feb 09:Complaint form sent to FOS 20 Mar 09:Letter from FOS advising investigating further with MBNA 15 Apr 09:MBNA confirmed an offer of a full refund of premiums paid, along with associated interest plus interest at 8% 18 Apr 09:Sent settlement form back to FOS 09 May 09:Letter from MBNA advising refund of premiums since inception date £1,827.17 associated interest £422.79 so £2249.96 credited to account. A cheque for £791.14 being sent in the next 7-10 working days. Total refund £3041.10 Thanks to everyone on this site who gave me advice on this forum. Donation on its way once cheque cleared.
  6. That is fantastic news - well done you. Just wondering how you're progressing with MBNA as we'd both received the same letter from them a while ago for our reclaim due to self employment. I went straight to the FOS in February 2009 and last week received a letter stating MBNA were willing to make an offer. This would be a refund of all the premiums paid, plus associated interest plus 8%. (Account opened in 2000 and PPI cancelled in Febuary 2009.) I'm really pleased with this result being my first PPI claim and was just interested to see how you were getting on. Ollie

  8. I have today received a letter from the FOS stating the following: I am writing about the latest position on your complaint about your payment protection insurance (PPI) policy with MBNA. MBNA have provided me with an offer prior to me completing my view of the case, they are prepared to make an offer to settle your complaint now but without admitting any liability. This offer by MBNA is subject to you agreeing to the cancellation of the PPI policy - if still in force. This will mean that all insurance cover provided by the policy will be lost. I am afraid we cannot give you advice on alternative insurance arrangements, and you may wish to seek independent advice about the options available to you before deciding whether to accept the offer. MBNA has confirmed its offer will be based on a full refund of premiums, along with associated interest, plus interest at 8% in full and final settlement of your complaint. It has also confirmed that part of the refund will be placed against the outstanding debt on your account to reduce the palance to zero and compensation of 8% will be issued in the form of a cheque. If you choose not to accept MBNA's offer, we will continue with our assessment of your complaint, which depending on the the outcome can be referred to an ombudsman for a final decision. If you have any new points that you think would make a difference to the outcome, please let me have them by 29 April 2009. If you are unable to reply fully by then, I would be grateful if you would let me know now. Otherwise, please sign, date and return the attached settlement form - so it reaches me by 29 April 2009 - to confirm your acceptance of the offer in full and final settlement of your complaint. MBNA have confirmed its offer will be based on a full refund of premiums, along with associated interest, plus interest @ 8% in full and final settlement of the complaint. It has also confirmed that part of the refund will be placed against the outstanding debt on the card to reduce the balance to zero with the remainder being issued in the form of a cheque. My only concern is that I do not have all the statements dating back to 2000 so how will I be sure that the amount offered is correct? I think this is a great result for the price of a couple of stamps and letters - and think I should probably accept the offer - but just wonder why MBNA have responded so quickly when normally they seem very difficult to get money out of.   11. Latest update Today received a polite letter from the FOS advising that they are contacting MBNA for further information. Then as soon as they can they will pass the complaint to one of their adjudicators. Advised it may take a while due to number of claims etc but did promise that they will write again as soon as possible - and certainly within the next 2 months to keep in touch. So whilst I appreciate it is likely to be a very very long wait - I remain hopeful!

Have just received an acknowledgement of safe receipt of correspondence from FOS - however warned they are currently have high volumes of enquiries and that they will provide a full response as soon as they can. Allocated a case number - so its a start to what I think will be a very long process - but hopefully worth it in the long run.

  15. Thanks for your quick response. They have stated that they have now exhausted their complaint process and therefore they must inform us that this is their final response on the matter. Should I still send them another letter to ask them to reconsider? Ollie Bollie
