  2. Well done. I received £100 back from Alliance and Leicester, and as a working, lone parent on a tight budget that amounted to two weeks of food and a week of petrol in the car!! Well worth it. I hope it inspires others to do the same.
  3. Hello all, Just to let you know that it works. With help from this site I wrote to Alliance and Leicester and, after a couple of letters and some waiting, I returned from holiday in July and found a letter refunding my £100 of bank charges. Of course, they deny they are doing anything wrong but they gave me my money back....hoorah! So, for anyone else out there - keep faith, you can do it too. I'm now going to challenge Nat West!! Best wishes A very smiley B
  4. Having discovered this website via the Martin Lewis website - how fantastic, I am now motivated to take on Alliance & Leicester for the £50 charges, applied to my account over the last few months for them having to pay a direct debit for my rent due to my housing benefit cheque not having cleared yet. So yes, the money appeared to be in my account when I looked at the cash-point, but they are arguing the cheque was not cleared and thus funds not available!! Initially I went into the branch - they offered me an empty office and a phone and called the number for me. I spoke to a Customer Adviser - I argued as a single mum on a very tight budget £25 was almost a week's food shopping for me and I thought the charge unreasonable in the circumstances. She said she would talk to her supervisor and they would write to me. The letter duly arrived two days later and said sorry but the charges are set out in their terms and conditions. I let it go. I get a letter a week a go charging me another £25, due to the same occurrance. I really can't afford this...so thank's to Martin Lewis and this website I'm off to make an official complaint and to get my hard earned money back! Wish me luck!
